Jerry Kenneth Mitchell, Sr. , 85, passed away with his family by his side, into the arms of His Savior, on December 2, 2023 in Springtown. Funeral Service: 11:00 a. m. , Thursday, December 7, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Springtown. Visitation: 10 to 11 a. m. , Thursday, December 7, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Springtown. Jerry was born on October 20, 1938 in Vernon, Alabama. He graduated from Lamar County High School in 1958 and graduated with his BS degree in Agricultural Education from Auburn University in 1962. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Mollie Roberts, on November 28, 1964, and they would be together for 59 years. Jerry graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a MS degree in Theological Education in 1972. From May 1972 to December 2001, Jerry worked for the Springtown Independent School District. He belonged to the Springtown Optimist Club, Joplin Masonic Lodge, and was a member of the Shriners. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother and father. His mother died when he was 19 years old and a senior in high school. He is also preceded in death by 5 brothers, 4 sisters, 3 sister-in-laws, 3 brother-in-laws, 3 nephews, and 1 great niece. Jerry is survived by his wife Dottie, his son Ken, his daughter-in-law Jenna, and his granddaughter Sage. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Martha, several nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and great nephews. Jerry requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Scottish Rite Hospital for children in his name at 2222 Wellborn Street, Dallas, TX 75219 (214-559-5000). Jerry was born with one leg shorter than the other; however, he never let this slow him down. This fueled his passion for helping other children that were born with similar issues.
