Mrs. Barbara Ann Gray Blankenship, age 86, of Shannon, Georgia, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023. Barbara was born in Floyd County, Georgia on February 28, 1937, daughter of the late Raymond Preston Gray, and the late Thelma Louise Moore Gray. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hal Lee Blankenship, on September 13, 2001, sister, Helen Edwards, brother, Mack Moore, brothers-in-law, Bill Edwards, Bill Blankenship, sister-in-law, Imogene Blankenship, and a niece, Judy Turner. Barbara retired from GE after 38 years of service, then she worked 11 years at New Antioch Baptist Church 4553 Calhoun Rd NE Rome, GA 30161. She was an active member of the Eastern Star, Etowah Chapter 100. Barbara was devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend and she will be missed by all. She loved her many friends and extended family. Survivors include her daughter, Sherri Blankenship (Tammie Tolbert), of Silver Creek; sons, Jeffery Blankenship of Atlanta, and Todd Blankenship (Sonya) of Rome; one granddaughter, Brooke LeAnne Bennett (A. J. ) of Rome, one great-granddaughter, Blakelyn LeAnne Bennett, one great-grandson, Beckett Preston Bennett; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 1:00 pm at New Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Cagle and Rev. Jim Reynolds officiating. The family will receive friends at New Antioch Baptist Church on Wednesday, from 11:00am until 1:00pm. Barbara loved life and was blessed to have the love of her family & friends. Pallbearers are asked to assemble at the church on Wednesday at 12:00pm and include Active: Jimmy Edwards, Jerry Edwards, Beau Edwards, Stephen Wacker, Stephen Wacker Jr. and A. J. Bennett. Honorary: Ladies of Faith Sunday School Class at New Antioch Baptist Church and Jar Edwards. Mr. Walter P. Simpson, age 61, of Shannon, GA, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at his residence. Mr. Simpson was born in Jacksonville, FL, on September 4, 1961, son of the late Walter Junior Simpson and the late Evelyn Louise Lambert Simpson. He was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Michael Simpson, James Simpson and Kenneth Simpson. Mr. Simpson was an electrician for the Fairbanks Co. for many years, having previously been employed with Rome Tool & Dye for over 25 years. He was a family man through and through, was God's gift to Earth as a dad and his grand babies were his world. Mr. Simpson was a hard worker who was smarter than most thought and could fix anything he set his mind to. He loved playing golf, grilling, throwing back a few cold ones and watching Fox & Friends. To know Mr. Simpson was to love him. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Angie Reynolds Simpson, Shannon, to whom he was married on December 5, 2008; a daughter, Cindy Watson (Bryant); 2 sons, James Simpson and J. W. Simpson; a stepson, Clint Davis (April Price); 2 grandchildren, Chelsey Simpson and Halleigh Watson; a brother, Timothy Simpson; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Monday, November 14, 2022, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Alfred Little officiating. Interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12pm until service time on Monday at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel. Eddie Routledge McEarchern, age 79, of Shannon, Georgia, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2022, at a local hospital. Eddie was born in Rome, Georgia, on September 13, 1942, son of the late Thomas Jefferson McEarchern and the late Mary Hedgpeth McEarchern. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Rose Smith; by a son-in-law, Rickey Bailey; and by a brother, Thomas Wayne McEarchern. Eddie was a good and kind Christian man who loved God, his church, and his family. He was a hard-working husband and father who enjoyed providing for his "Junebug" and girls. He will be greatly missed and leaves a tremendous void in all of our lives. Eddie leaves behind his wife of 61 years, June Nelson McEarchern, and daughters, Mary Mathis (Dewayne), Terri Ramey (Cell), and Sherri Bailey. Eddie and June were blessed to have twelve grandchildren, Scott Bailey (Kathy), Rebecca Bomar (Nat), Jennifer Bowers (David), Michelle Maletti (Andre), Marty Corbitt (Jessie), Lydia Voils (Andrew), Drew Corbitt, Sarah Garrett (Ethan), Elizabeth Palopoli (Matt), Michael Smith, Mandi White (Nathan), and Zac Mathis (Caytlin), and sixteen great-grandchildren. Eddie is also survived by a brother, Walter McEarchern (Anna), and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 9, 2022, at 11am at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Rafael Carballo and Deacon Stuart Neslin officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Thursday from 6 until 8pm. Mr. Anthony Dale Harrison age 70, of Shannon, Georgia, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022, at a local healthcare facility. Born May 15, 1952, in Floyd County, Georgia, Mr. Harrison was the son of the late Victor Horace Harrison and the late Louise Ann Vines Harrison. Mr. Harrison was preceded in death by a son, Brett Harrison, a brother, Ronnie Harrison, and a sister, Patricia Fuller. Mr. Harrison graduated from Model High School, then Floyd College Police Academy with top honors while working at Klopman Mills. He served in the U. S. Army as a Military Policeman. After honorable discharge from the army, Mr. Harrison served as a Deputy at the Gordon County Sheriff's Office until he moved to the Floyd County Sheriff's Office where he served until his retirement as Captain of the Warrant Division. Mr. Harrison was involved with the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years, in that time he was Scoutmaster of Troop 30, Shannon Georgia, for over 20 years. Mr. Harrison is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sara Ellen Harrison; sons, Eric Harrison and Wesley Harrison (Amanda); granddaughter, Abby Harrison; brother-in-law, Tillman Fricks (Wendy); sister-in-law, Judy Smith; several nieces and nephews; his beloved fur baby, AnnieA celebration of life will be held at a later date. Mr. Rickey Doyal Bailey, age 60, of Shannon, GA, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2021. Rickey was born in Floyd County, GA on September 7, 1960, son of the late Robert and Johnnie Winkle Bailey. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Bailey. Rickey worked for Brown Cartage and was a member of Shannon First Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir. Rickey never met a stranger and could talk to anyone. He loved his work route that took him throughout the mountains of Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina and was always sharing pictures and videos of his route. His yard and garden are a testament to his passion for gardening. Rickey loved his family and was the best husband, Grandpa, and Papa-sita. He was also a father-figure to many of his family members and children's friends. He has left a hole that can never be filled and will be forever missed. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Sherri McEarchern Bailey; son, Scott Bailey (Kathy); daughters, Rebecca Bomar (Nat), Jennifer Bowers (David), and Michelle Bailey (Andre Maletti); five beautiful granddaughters, Mara Denmon-Bailey, Bailey, Amelia, and Abigail Bomar, and Madeline Bowers; brother, Donald Bailey; sisters-in-law, Terri Ramey (Cell) and Mary Mathis (Dewayne); in-laws Eddie & June McEarchern; several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ben L. Crawford, age 90, of Shannon, GA, passed away Friday, January 3, 2020. Mr. Crawford was born in Knoxville, TN on January 29, 1929, son of the late Leon and Louise Humbard Crawford. He graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga, TN, where he was a football standout. Mr. Crawford leaves behind a daughter, Karen Lee, of Rome, GA, and a sister, Martha Slack, brother-in-law, Bill Slack, Athens, niece, Jennifer Amos, Athens, nephew, Wes Popiel, Thomasville, GA, niece, Denise Stinnett of Knoxville, TN, sister-in-law, Harriett Witt and brother-in-law, Andrew Witt, Chattanooga, as well as other nieces and nephews. Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Witt Crawford and grandson, Paul Kevin Lee. Mr. Crawford was a member of the Rome Mineral Society for 50 years where he served in many capacities as well as president and historian, He was on the education staff and a vital part of the Weinman Mineral Museum with exhibits and demonstrations lending his knowledge and expertise while winning many awards. He worked with the Young Scholars Program and many schools inspiring and educating young people with his knowledge of minerals, gem faceting and carving. Mr. Crawford taught geology classes at Shorter College when needed in this capacity and was a master soap-stone carver leaving behind over 29 marine life carvings to be donated to an aquarium in his name. upon retirement, Mr. Crawford was a volunteer with Mercy Senior Care. He served in the United States Naval Reserves. At his request, Mr. Crawford was cremated, and a Life Celebration will be announced at a later date.Show more
