Patricia Murray-Steding

Patricia Murray-Steding

Age - 81

November 30, 2023

"Patricia J. Murray-Steding, age 81, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday, November 27, 2023. Last Rites were given by Tori Little and Father Aman of Christ the Good Shepherd. Patricia was born March 1, 1942, to Raymond and Jane Murray, in Saginaw. Patricia married her husband, Dallan Steding, in June 1966 at Sacred Heart. Dallan predeceased her in October 2011. She is survived by her three loving daughters, Sara Steding, Patricia (Steven LaBadie) Steding and Ann Steding; grandchildren, Andrew Steding (fiance, Dr. Ryan Hall), Samuel Eassa, Margaret Eassa, Alec LaBadie, Alyse LaBadie, and Matthew Steding; siblings, James (Cheryl) Murray, Mary Ellen Murray, Donald (Sharon) Murray, Maureen Murray; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Dallan Steding; grandson, Thomas Steding; and brother, Kevin Murray. Patricia was a member of the Catholic Community and a member of the congregation at St. Andrew's Church. Patricia joined Mary Wood Academy in Grand Rapids and studied for 2 years with the Dominicans. Shortly after they limited certain books she could read, she decided against becoming a nun. Patricia graduated from Sacred Heart High School with a strong academic pursuit. She obtained a bachelor's degree from Saginaw Valley and continued onto graduate school and earned a master's degree in psychology from Central Michigan University. Patricia was a highly accomplished woman who worked as a clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist in both Saginaw and Genesee counties for many years. Patricia began her vocational journey at Saginaw General Hospital on the psychiatric unit, then started and maintained a private practice while, at times, working for other organizations. Early on, Patricia specialized in adolescent therapy, then worked for Thera-Care in Flint, which specialized in close-head injury, along with several other companies for whom she contracted. Patricia then co-owned an adult Foster Care Home, Windmill Place in Saginaw, which specialized in Traumatic Brain Injury, and focused on minimal capacity, resident-based, highly dignified care. Patricia held a position on the Saginaw Board of Mental Health and offered countless hours of volunteer work at St. Mary's health care clinic, providing free counseling and psychotherapy to the indigent. Patricia loved being a mom. She placed her daughters above all else. Her devotion, patience, support and love shed brightly. She treasured her children, grandchildren, and embraced each moment. She was never happier than when she and Dallan had "all three daughters under one roof. " Her dedication as a mother was relentless. She and Dallan took the girls on animated vacations and traveled the country in their camper making memories together. Warm summers on Higgins Lake shall never be forgotten. After Dallan retired, he and Pat found a delightful place in New Mexico and became snowbirds. They found a new, warm community and chapter in their lives together, while traveling back and forth. To know Pat was to know that the front door was always open. It was not unusual to see a neighbor kid or family friend walk in, clean off a chair, pull up to the kitchen table and immediately engage in conversation. Pat had an extraordinary gift. . . an angle, edge and remarkable quality of character that enticed others to seek her direction and guidance. We treasure the "glory days" on Adams Boulevard while she and her husband, Dallan, raised their three daughters. That point in time seems so stand still. One fondly remembers the legendary pool parties, kick the can, bike rides up to Bill's for slurpees, and the tight knit community with cherished neighbors, family, and friends. Pat had a strong personality and always told you the truth. She gave a life of service in so many ways and has been coined "the queen of charity. " It's been said that Pat would willingly accept welfare cheese as payment for counseling. Those who knew Pat would expect no less. Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 1:00 p. m. at Fischer Family Funeral Home, 504 N. Michigan Ave. , Saginaw, MI 48602. Tori Little will officiate. Memorial Visitation will continue after the service until 3:00 pm. For information, please call Fischer Family Funeral Services at (989) 755-8277.
