Arthur J. "Art" WoltzArthur J. "Art" Woltz, 93, of Gerry passed away Friday (May 5, 2023) in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on December 30, 1929, in Buffalo, NY the son of the late Joseph and Pauline Maza Woltz. He graduated Canisius High School and later attended Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. He served in the US Army National Guard from April 12, 1949 to April 11, 1953 achieving the Rank of SGT (E-5). Art worked on the Niagara Falls remedial project in the 1950's as well as the Kinzua Dam project in the 60's. He worked for FEMA in the aftermath of the "Blizzard of '77". Art retired in 1988 from the New York State Department of Transportation after 38 years of service as Engineer-in-Charge of numerous bridge and highway contracts in Western New York State, principally Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties, the New York State Thruway, and Interstate 86. Since 1971 he served continuously on the Town of Gerry Planning Board and the Board of Appeals. He was the Assessor for the Town of Gerry for 16 years from 1971-1987. Art also served on the Chautauqua County Disaster Preparedness Committee. Art enjoyed traveling extensively with his wife throughout the U. S. as well as to Alaska, Canada, England, Mexico, the Western European countries, Greece, Turkey, and Morocco. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and building electronic items. Surviving are his wife Patricia A. Woltz whom he married on October 17, 1959 at Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church; two sons: Robert J. (Kathryn) Woltz of Falconer, NY, James A. Woltz of Falconer and Grand Rapids, MI; a grandson Jeremiah A. (Amanda) Woltz of Jamestown, NY; a great granddaughter Venice Woltz; a sister Beatrice Demko of Cleveland, OH; a nephew David Demko of Cleveland, OH; and a niece Phyllis Demko of Cleveland, OH. Besides his parents, Art was preceded in death by a nephew James Demko of Cleveland, OH. The funeral service will be held 10 a. m. Wednesday (May 10, 2023) in the Falconer Funeral Home. Father Darrell Duffy will officiate. Friends will be received by the family Tuesday from 4:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. in the Falconer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, at a Future Date.
