"Mr. A. W. "Whitey" Dahlstedt, age 98, passed away April 23, 2023. He was born in Muskegon, MI on June 6, 1924 to Carl and Susie (Horness) Dahlstedt. He married the former Evelyn Butor on September 27, 1947. Whitey served his country during World War II from 1942 to 1946 in the Southwest Pacific where he was in the 534th Amphibious Landing Craft Brigade as a landing craft operator. He had been a general contractor for most of his life and was a charter member and past president of the Home Builders Association and a past president of Muskegon General Contractors Association. Whitey was elected to the Norton Shores City Council serving three 4-year terms. An avid golfer and a long-time member of Lincoln and Pontaluna Golf Courses, Whitey also had a lifelong love of hockey, which he started playing at the Mart in 1938. After the War, he played on a travel team for many years, later playing in the Senior Men's League until he was 64. Whitey and Evelyn enjoyed the 30 years they spent together in their retirement home in Dunedin, FL. Survivors include his children, Dr. Dennis Dahlstedt of Bloomfield Hills, Thomas Dahlstedt of Grand Rapids, and Julie Bamfield (Dennis Wasserman) of Muskegon; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol Grennor of Tampa, FL and Ardys Leafstrand of Wheaton, IL. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Evelyn; son-in-law, John Bamfield; daughters-in-law, Susan Dahlstedt and Laurel Dahlstedt; brother, Wallace and sister, Donna. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. Memorial details will be forthcoming.
