Arlen William Steffens, 89, of Wahpeton, ND, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at St. Catherine’s Living Center in Wahpeton. Visitation will be on Friday, August 18, 2023, from 5 pm to 7 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm, at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held at Breck Lutheran Church in Breckenridge, MN, on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 10 am, with visitation one-hour prior. Rene’ Hasbargen will officiate. Burial will be in Tyler, ND. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton. Arlen was born on February 4, 1934, to Albert and Ethel (Tribke) Steffens in DeVillo Township. He was raised on the family farm near Fairmount, ND and attended country school in DeVillo Township. He was united in marriage to Rosemary Matthys on November 10, 1956, in Wahpeton, ND. They made their home in Minneapolis for 10 years and in 1966, they moved to the family farm near Tyler, ND. Arlen worked at NDSCS as a custodian for 30 years, as well as farmed. In 1999, he retired from farming and continued to live on the family farm. In 2019, they moved into Wahpeton. He enjoyed antique tractors, auction sales, farming, and playing Rook. He truly enjoyed his time with family, friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, of 66 years, Rosemary; his children, David (Debbie) Steffens, Daniel (Denise) Steffens, and Arlinda (Jerome) Mauer; 6 grandchildren, Darrin (Alissa) Steffens, Nicholas (Kasey) Mauer, Darcy (Jeff) Bruns, Anthony (Ali) Steffens, Jacob (Ashley) Mauer, and Michael Mauer; 11 great-grandchildren, Brinley, Nora, Masey, Morgan, Vera, Sophy, Owen, Aiden, Axel, McKenzie, and Patrick; sister, DiAnn Loll; brothers, Albert (Amanda) Steffens Jr. , Delbert (Rita) Steffens, and Roger (Linda) Steffens. Arlen was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Stanley Loll; his granddaughter and step-granddaughter.

Robert Duane Jokumsen, born on May 11, 1942, in Mahnomen, Minnesota, went to meet his Lord on November 9, 2023. He was 81 years old. To honor and remember Bob, services will be held in Wahpeton, ND. A visitation is scheduled at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home on Sunday, November 12, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm with the prayer service starting at 6:30 pm. The funeral service will take place at Bethel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton, on Monday, November 13, at 11:00 am, with visitation one hour prior to the service, followed by a graveside service in Maine, MN, at 3:00 pm. In celebrating Bob’s life, let us emulate his infectious chuckle, his keen eye for a deal, the love story he created with Sharon, and his joyous love for grandkids and family. Bob is in peace with the Lord. Bob had an infectious smile and a great sense of humor. His life was a dedication to family, and he would tell you he had the PERFECT 6 grandkids. Bob was decent at Golf, liked to fish, but LOVED those grandkids. A graduate of Mahnomen High School, he met Sharon the love of his life and they wed on Feb 8, 1965. Bob continued his education at NDSCS in Wahpeton, ND, where he eventually settled. Bob taught for a season at NDSCS and then continued his professional journey as a draftsman and exceptional engineer which led him through local manufacturing companies such as WiI-Rich, Ro-banks, and WCCO. He retired from WCCO in 2009. Bob’s retirement with Sharon was marked by extensive travel, yet his heart found its anchor at his cherished Lake Home in Pickerel, MN. He was the proud "Papa" over the annual gathering with his family on the 4th of July. A true craftsman, Bob possessed the remarkable ability to fix anything with precision. His talents extended beyond mere repairs; he crafted cradles for his own children and his grandchildren. As the grandkids grew up, he built whatever they could dream up from PVC pipe crutches to ski equipped sleds. Notably, he played a pivotal role in the construction of the local hockey arena in Wahpeton. Bob’s affinity for building extended beyond structures to enduring relationships. His deep friendships, forged over pinochle games, rounds of golf, and motorcycle adventures, were a testament to the profound impact he had on others. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; his devoted children, Chad (Karen) Jokumsen, Grants Pass, OR, Robyn (Lance) Teel, Boise, ID; grandchildren, Maci (Kevin) Luther, Teigan (Alyssa) Jokumsen, Meredith, Madeleine, Wade and Wyatt Teel; and his siblings, Norma Hughes, Dick Jokumsen, and Don Jokumsen. He was preceded by his parents, Herman and Nora (Bicket) Jokumsen; infant son, Wade; and siblings, Betty Tremle and Herman "Curly" Jokumsen. Judith A. (Lawler) Beach, age 86, passed away at St. Catherine’s Living Center on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, under the care of CHI Hospice. A time for visitation will be held from 11:00 a. m. until 1:00 p. m. on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p. m. with Colette Barton officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Wahpeton. Judy was the daughter of Daniel and Hazel (Giddings) Lawler. She was born on October 18, 1936, in Breckenridge, MN. She grew up and attended school in Breckenridge, graduating in 1954. She then went on to attend NDSSS in Wahpeton for one year in the secretarial program. She met the love of her life through mutual friends, Stanley (Skip) Beach from Wahpeton. They were united in marriage on June 2, 1956, at St. Mary’s Church in Breckenridge. They made their home in Dwight, ND and then to Tyler, ND, Conde, SD, Barnesville, MN and finally in West Fargo, ND. Judy held various bookkeeping jobs, her first job in the catalog department at Montgomery Wards. From here she went to work for Sturdevant’s Auto Parts. She continued working there until they moved to Conde, SD, in 1971, where she did the books for Skip as he ran the elevator. Once they left Conde in 1978, they relocated to Barnesville, MN, where Judy commuted to Moorhead, MN to work for Red River Tool/Dye in inventory and bookkeeping. From there they made West Fargo, ND their home, where Judy worked for Gold Label Feed until Skip’s health began to fail and she needed to care for him. After Skip passed on February 9, 1995, Judy went back to work for Todd’s Gas and Convenience Store on 13th Ave. for a short time before working at the Fargo Dome concessions. She worked there until her health forced her to retire. Judy and Skip enjoyed following the FM Redhawks and the NDSU Bison basketball teams. They were season ticket holders for both events. You could find Judy at the Redhawks games with a scorebook in her lap. She kept score for all their home games and Maury Wills could be heard asking Judy if she got that play correct. She loved going on bus trips to various casinos and enjoyed putting puzzles together. In the days when her eyesight allowed, she challenged counted cross stitch projects, gifting many to others. She loved the socialization with employees where she worked as well as the residents and staff at Siena Court, where she called home since 2017. A fall in August forced Judy to move into St. Catherine’s Living Center. She was involved in the Fargo Eagles and the Conde Legion Auxiliary. Judy leaves behind her sons, Steve (Becki) Beach, Fairmount, ND and Doug (Laurie) Beach, Foley, Al; two grandchildren, Sarah (Steve) Elfman, Devils Lake, ND, their children, Simon, Shyley and Stockton; Alex (Angela) Beach, West Fargo, ND, their daughter Adelynn; step grandson, Mike (Shelby) Larson, their children, Brooklyn and Kinsleigh; and numerous nieces, nephews and close cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Skip; an infant daughter, Wanda; her parents; two brothers, Bob (Wilma) Lawler and Tim (Mary) Lawler; and her sister, Geri Pat (Doug) Ishaug. A big thank you to the staff and residents at Siena Court and St. Catherine’s for the care they provided Judy for the past six plus years. Miller, fondly known as Bri, passed away on August 9, 2023, in Wahpeton, North Dakota, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on November 8, 1981, in South Bend, Indiana to Gilbert Miller Sr. and Estella Hamilton. Bri was a vibrant and kindhearted woman whose presence illuminated every room she entered. Bri began her career as a Personal Care Attendant, providing compassionate care to individuals in their homes. She would later become a customer service representative for the Apple company. Outside of work, Bri found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Among her cherished memories were dancing with her mother, Estella, during holidays while cooking. These moments captured the essence of Bri's joyful spirit and the close bond she shared with her family. A loving and devoted mother, Bri always put her children first. She delighted in making them laugh with her playful antics like pinches, kisses, and buzzers. Her children - Chynnah, Justyce, Robert, and Aiden - were the pride and joy of her life. Bri's educational journey was marked by significant achievements. In 2000, she graduated from Riley High School in South Bend, Indiana, before embarking on further studies. In 2023, she earned a Diploma in Mental Behavior from M State along with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. Bri's commitment to personal growth exemplified her ambitious and driven nature. In addition to her impressive academic pursuits, Bri possessed a creative flair and had a keen eye for fashion and decorating. Her sense of style allowed her to express herself artistically while bringing beauty into the world. Reading provided comfort for Bri during quiet moments of reflection. She also had an affinity for R&B and Gospel music that touched her soul deeply. Through these hobbies and interests, she found inspiration and peace. Bri's radiant personality shone like a star in the night sky. Her light never dimmed, infectious smile brought joy to those around her. Her vibrant, sweet, and kindhearted nature made every interaction with her a memorable one. Bri embraced life and turned every moment into something extraordinary. Bri is survived by her children, Chynnah (Khalid), Justyce, Robert, and Aiden; beloved mother, Estella Hamilton; great-grandmother, Diane Hamilton; sisters, Precious Dozier, Choice Dozier, Sncrty Dozier, Licia Miller, Marvelous Johnson, Christina Sutherland, Karen Miller, Regina King, Tammy Miller; brothers, Gilbert Miller Jr. , Joseph Herron and Rudolph Dion Miller. She is preceded in death by her father, Gilbert Miller Sr. ; uncles, Jerry and Richard Hamilton; brother, Cory Miller; and sister, Gathon Garrett. Bri's proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly her children and her educational achievements. The love she shared with her children knew no bounds. She took immense pride in their growth and success. Additionally, she was proud of overcoming challenges and embracing new opportunities through various relocations. Gilbrina L. Miller was a beacon of light in the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Though our hearts are heavy with grief at the loss of such an exceptional individual, let us find comfort in the memories we shared and the impact she made.
