Ivan Shively

Ivan Shively

Age - 87

December 9, 2023

Ivan O. Shively, 87, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully at his son and daughter-in-law's home on December 6, 2023. He was under the care of One Source Hospice. Ivan remained aware of his surroundings and embraced life with mindfulness up until the very end. Ivan was born May 7, 1936, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was the oldest of four siblings and lived in Idaho Falls his whole life. Beyond his school education, Ivan learned the virtue of hard work at an early age through living on a farm. His true love for work began when he learned the skill of carpentry, taught to him by his father. Before fully committing to carpentry, he served in the Idaho National Guard. He married Trina Barney soon out of high school and later they divorced. They had one son, Leonard, and he was the absolute joy of Ivan's life. Ivan dedicated himself to building a successful home building and remodeling business called Shively Construction. He was elected president of the Home Builders Association in the 1970's. During this time period, he built the Shively Manor apartments which he owned and operated for almost 50 years, before his son took over a few years back. Ivan's love for the outdoors continued with his dedication to the Boy Scouts of America, leading him to serve on committees inspecting and maintaining camps. His commitment earned him the Silver Beaver Award, which was a source of great pride for Ivan. He introduced his son, Leonard, to his love for the outdoors and service, and together they went on several 50-mile hikes with the Boy Scouts. When Ivan wasn't working, he would be with Leonard either fishing or hunting. They rarely went a day without seeing each other. Ten months ago, Ivan relocated to Lincoln Court where he found joy in his new surroundings, and forged many new friendships. He loved to take his scooter outside and have the squirrels eat nuts out of his hands, and crawl up his legs. Ivan will always be remembered as consistently wearing a smile and radiating gratitude. Ivan's absence leaves a void that will be deeply felt, and he will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Lorene Shively, and sister, June Winterfeld. He is survived by his son, Leonard (Debbie) Shively of Idaho Falls, ID; granddaughters, Afton (Kenny) Murdock of Pleasant Grove, UT, Breanne Beard of Idaho Falls, ID, Calyn (Trevor) Petersen of Meridian, ID; 9 great grandchildren; brother, David (Judy) Shively of Middleton, ID; sister, Carol (Tom) Buckley of Commack, NY; brother-in-law, Delbert Winterfeld of Swan Valley, ID; and many nephews and nieces.
