Valerie Howes Thibodaux

Oct 03, 1933 - Feb 22, 2024

location-icon

Thibodaux, LA

Valerie Howes Thibodaux entered eternal rest on February 22, 2024, at the age of 90 reuniting with her beloved late husband, Wilton J. Thibodaux.Valerie was born in Oxford, England. She attended Penzance Girls School in Cornwall. She often spoke of her youthful days spent on horseback on Oxford’s ancient Port Meadow with the dreaming spires of her beloved city off in the distance. Valerie later completed secretarial college prior to taking employment with the Bishop of Oxford at Christ Church.Valerie was eventually whisked away from her homeland in 1961 by Wilton, a World War II veteran, who became the love of her life. Their union stretched 31 years in the St. Charles Community. Valerie devoted her life to the care of her family. She was the much-loved mother to Wayne Thibodaux & Matthew Thibodaux, both of Thibodaux, and Elizabeth Thibodaux Bilcik of Delaware. She was a grandmother to five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one on the way. Valerie became a naturalized US Citizen and was grateful for all the blessings America bestowed upon her. Nevertheless, she remained very connected to her Oxford roots and all things British.Valerie enjoyed music. She was a prior member of the St. Genevieve Church Choir and was honored to sing for Pope John Paul II in Rome in 2002.Throughout her lifetime Valerie had a deep affection for all animals, especially dogs. She rescued numerous unwanted and abused dogs-often providing them with a second chance to be loved and secure in a forever home. Never wanting to be without the companionship of dogs, she gladly took in the inanimate ‘puppies’ who found their way into her loving care while a resident of St. Joseph Manor. The family would like to thank both Thibodaux Healthcare staff and the St Joseph Manor staff for their care and friendship. We are forever grateful.Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of her Life on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral beginning at 8 AM followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Valerie’s memory to a local animal shelter to support animals in need.
