Arch Forkner Obituary

Arch Floyd Forkner, Richards, MO went to join the Lord on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the age of 94, after living a full and active life. He was born December 28, 1928, in rural Vernon County; the youngest son of the late Archie Floyd Forkner and Lula Reynolds Forkner. He married Carol Stamps on August 6, 1950, in Nevada, MO, and she preceded him in death in 2007. Arch lived in the Metz area for almost his entire life, graduating from Metz High School Class of 1947. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1953, in Korea, and returned home to farm with his father in the Rinehart area. They raised row crops, Registered Polled Herefords, and hogs. Arch farmed most of his life and was an advocate of soil and water conservation. Arch was an earlier adopter of the Balanced Farming system. He sold both crop insurance and seed for many years. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Arch was a member of Rinehart Christian Church, but also served many years at Community Christian Church, Ft. Scott, KS. He also served as a Vernon County Commissioner for several terms. He was an avid supporter of the Vernon County Youth Fair, 4-H, and FFA. Arch enjoyed attending dirt track races, playing cards, and attending Nevada Tiger Athletics. He never met a stranger, enjoyed visiting with people, and loved music. Arch is survived by his daughter, Sherrie (Craig) Davidson, Broken Arrow, OK; his son, Tim (Tammy) Forkner, Richards MO; three grandsons: Daniel (Bethany) Davidson, Springfield, OR, Nathan (Ashley) Forkner, Richards, MO, and Peter (Sara) Davidson, Broken Arrow, OK; two granddaughters, Rebekah (Chris) Terry, Broken Arrow, OK, and Christy (Phil) Witt, Neosho, MO; and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a. m. on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at the Rinehart Christian Church, Richards, MO, with Pastors Kevin Moyer and Daniel Davidson officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery, Ft. Scott, KS. Friends may call now and until 7:00 p. m. on Wednesday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with the family receiving friends 5-7:00 p. m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in his memory to the RICM (Rural India Christian Mission) or the Vernon County Youth Fair c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Linda Sue Barker, age 72, of Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Medicalodge in Nevada, MO. Linda was born November 20, 1951, in Springfield, MO to James Daniel and Edna June (Keech) Hutchison. After high school, she married and gave birth to one son. She previously lived in Springfield, MO before living in Germany, and had recently moved to Nevada, MO. She enjoyed bowling and going on cruises. Betty Ann Pritchett, 94, of Nevada, MO, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. Betty was born on September 12, 1929 in New Sharon, IA to Kermit Walker and Opal Ann (Moore) Neas. She married Robert S. Pritchett, Jr. on October 10, 1946 and he preceded her in death on June 29, 2000. Betty came with her family to Sheldon, MO at a young age. She attended Sheldon Schools and was a homemaker most of her life. Betty enjoyed gardening and flowers, family gatherings, and being with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and O. E. S #53 both in Nevada. Survivors include, her son Kermit Pritchett (Ginger), Nevada; her daughter Annette Crews (Rick), Nevada; five grandchildren, Jenelle Forkner (Steve), Metz, MO, Sheridan "Kermit" Pritchett (Kylie), Nevada, Park Pritchett (Lori), Mt. Vernon, MO, Manda Mae Pritchett, Olympia, WA, and Brandi Whitworth (Jake), Moundville, MO; numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. ; one sister, Sue Hinkle, Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by one son, Kevin N. Pritchett, one grandson, Ricky Crews, and two infant brothers. Peggy Jean Swafford, 68, Nevada, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Medicalodges of Nevada. Peggy was born October 7, 1955 in Nevada, MO. She was married to Dwayne Brundridge and to this marriage her two children were born. She married Mike Swafford on March 7, 2001 and he preceded her in death on October 4, 2005. Peggy was raised in Nevada and attended Nevada Schools. She worked as a CNA most of her life. Her jobs included working at the Nevada Hab Center, and several area nursing homes. Peggy loved crocheting, and most of all being with her family. Survivors include two children, a daughter, Jessica Hallam (James) of the home, and a son Shane Brundridge (Brie), Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Karrolynne, Damien, Dominic, Gracyn, Adalynn, and Macey; several brothers and sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Mcnerney

Mary Winifred McNerney, 75, Nevada, MO, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Nevada Regional Medical Center. Mary was born November 21, 1947 in Elgin, IL, to John L. and Ida B. (Klaeger) McNerney. Mary was raised in Elgin, IL and graduated from Mount St. Mary's Academy in St. Charles, IL, in 1965. She went to Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison, KS, (now Benedictine College). Following college she taught ten years at St. Edwards Catholic High School in Elgin, IL. In 1980 she came to Nevada and began a career at Cottey College where she taught P. E. for a number of years as well as coaching numerous sports including tennis, track, volleyball, and ran a popular intramural program. Over time, Mary became Coordinator of Academic Advising and Student Success. She retired from Cottey College in 2014. Mary was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Nevada. Survivors include her sister, Patricia McNerney of Nevada; two Goddaughters, Jeanne Sampson, Streamwood, IL, and Mary Katherine Best, Lynn, MO; and her "Grandson", Thomas Kerbs, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, John M. McNerney. Diana Shopper, 67, of Nevada, Missouri passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 2nd, 2023. Diana was born in Harrison, AR on August 15th, 1956, to Arthur and Jane Dilks. Diana grew up in Kansas City, MO and attended Shawnee Mission North before moving to Nevada for her senior year of high school, graduating in 1974. It was during this time that she met John Shopper who she later married and had a family with. Diana attended CMSU and worked for 3M until her recent retirement. Survivors include two daughters, Susan Shopper and her husband Corey Richardson of Fairbanks, Alaska; Michelle Holland and her husband Zack of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren Zaerik, Mila, Allison, and Arabella Holland of Colorado Springs, CO; and her significant other, Ron Anderson of Stockton, MO. Clifford Scott

Clifford "Kip" France Scott II passed away on November 1, 2023 at the Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada, Missouri. Kip was born on April 30, 1944 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Marjory (Hanson) and Clifford France Scott Sr. He spent his childhood years growing up on the family farm near Canistota, SD and attending country school. The family later moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where Kip attended Washington High School, then to Fort Collins, CO, where he graduated. Kip earned a B. S. degree in History from Colorado State University and an M. S. degree in Counseling and Human Resource Development from South Dakota State University. Throughout his life, Kip remained steadfastly devoted to bettering the lives of others. Through his work in politics as the State Chair of the Democratic Party of South Dakota, he managed several local and state political campaigns for candidates and worked tirelessly to implement policies to improve the lives of those in his community. As a mental health counselor, Kip dedicated years of his life to empowering and helping to heal countless clients. After serving on the Board of Directors at Kilian Community College, Kip discovered his passion for teaching, which proved to be his true calling in life. He began teaching at the college and later advanced to administration positions within the college, including serving as the Dean of Student Services and as the Dean of Academics. As a consummate educator, Kip touched the lives of every student who crossed his path, often leaving a lifelong impact. As a diehard fan of the Denver Broncos, Kip could often be found loudly cheering for "his" boys - unless, of course, they were playing his wife's team, the Kansas City Chiefs. When it wasn't football season, Kip spent his time singing, playing the guitar, and occasionally performing. He authored three books of historical fiction and a successful college textbook. In retirement, Kip enjoyed learning new skills, including making delicious jams, salsas, pickles, and pies to sell at the local farmers' markets. Above all, Kip never let his mind idle, avidly reading books on the history of Christianity, the Americas, and military engagements. Kip is survived by his wife, Katie (Miller) Scott of the home; children Kate (Tom Chojnacki) Johnson, Casper, WY; Tara (Jerry) Stubbe, Worthing, SD; and Erik (Tamela Van Kals Beek) Scott; stepchildren Brian (Mary Bridget) Samson, Madison, WI; Laura (Patrick) DePriest, Little Rock, AR; and Brett Samson, Madison, WI. Grandchildren include Kade Scott, Delaney Scott, Addison Stubbe, Jacob Stubbe, Jacob Samson, Kira Samson, Ant DePriest, Delilah DePriest, Noelle DePriest, and PJ DePriest. Nelson Brooks

Age - 91

Nelson Ray Brooks, 91, of Nevada, MO, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Nevada Medicalodge surrounded by family and friends. Born April 21, 1932, in Hume, MO, Nelson was the son of Buford Marshall and Emma Dell (Potter) Brooks. He married the love of his life, Ella Mae (Burrus) Brooks on June 27, 1953, at the Methodist Church in Hume, MO, and she preceded him in death on July 23, 2008. Nelson attended the one-room schoolhouse, Brush College, southeast of Hume for grades 1-8 and the Hume High School grades 9-12, graduating in 1951 right along with his wife. Nelson was best known for his basketball talents as a Hume Hornet with a great hook shot, his hunting skills, his hard work ethic, his love for his family and his storytelling. After graduation, Nelson worked for the Frito Asphalt Company, based in Pittsburg, KS, from 1951-1954, dynamiting for construction of roads. He then became a brakeman on the Missouri Pacific Railroad from 1954-1981, until he was badordered due to hearing loss. Nelson was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Nevada from 1953 until 1989 when he and Ella Mae transferred their membership to First Baptist Church in Nevada. Other memberships in his life included the Masonic Lodge #303, O. E. S. #53 (Order of the Eastern Star), Elks Lodge #564 and N. A. R. V. R. E. (National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees). Enjoyments in Nelson's life included vacationing with Ella Mae in Colorado Springs, playing pool at the Neal Center, reading Louis L'Amour books, watching westerns on Channel 8, and having family visit, especially his grandsons and great-grandkids. His favorite restaurants were Chicken Annie's, Cooky's Cafe, and Emery's, where waitresses spoiled him. Survivors include one son, Randy Brooks, of Nevada; one daughter, Ranea Couch and her husband, Phil, of Moundville; grandchildren: Christopher Schulze and his wife, Jenny, of Willard; Kyle Schulze and his wife, Lauren, of Nevada; Bob Brooks, Perkiomenville, PA; Bryan Brooks, Jacksonville, FL; Isabella Brooks, Nevada; step-grandchildren: Samantha Schmitt, Tayrin Schmitt, Kodie Schmitt and his wife, Macey; great-grandchildren: Maelee Faye and Gracee Aleen Schulze, of Willard; Emerson Ray and Iris River Schulze, of Nevada; Kallen Nash Brooks, of Perkiomenville, PA; step great-grandchildren: Heath Ray Hubbard, Taylee Mae Bryant and Connor Andrew Foster-Bryant; two sisters: Colleen Blevins, of Butler; and Diane Clark and her husband, Larry, of Hume; a sister-in-law, Karen Brooks, of Carl Junction; a brother-in-law, Oran Burrus, of Nevada; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
