A public viewing for Nicodemis "Nico" Izack Marquez Hernandez will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Terpening & Son Mortuary Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am at Faith Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 with internment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery.Nicodemis "Nico", 21, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 16, 2024. Nico has finally been reunited with his mother; they both are smiling down on their family. Nico could brighten anyone’s day with his smile, laughter, and his hugs.Nico was the first born to Jason Ray Hernandez and Heather Lynnette Sanchez on February 18, 2002, in Carlsbad, NM. He went to school in Artesia, New Mexico and in El Paso, Texas. Nico attended Faith Baptist Church and accepted his Lord and Savior on January 14, 2024.Nico was always spending time with his family and friends. He would give his shirt off his back if he could to anyone he met. He knew how to brighten anyone’s day by just talking to him. He made sure to give everyone a hug and always had the brightest smile. He was the life of the party anywhere he went. He had the best dance moves you have ever seen. Claude Vincent Mauldin

Claude Vincent Mauldin passed away at his home on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at the age of 98. There will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Eddy County Fairgrounds, 3402 S 13th Street, Artesia, NM. Wayne Brazil will officiate interment services at 1:30 p.m. at Woodbine Cemetery in Artesia, NM with assistance from Ricky (Blue) Mauldin. There will be a viewing at Terpening and Son Mortuary in Artesia, NM on Friday, January 19, from 2 to 6 p.m. Pallbearers will be: Jack Gibson, Brian Baker, Becky Baker, Lonnie Pierce, Tara King, Trista King, Noah Mauldin, Jadon Mauldin. Honorary Pallbearers are: Greg Shoults, Michael Coon, Sheryl Baker, Jim Hadley, Robert Evans, Jeremy Fiedler, Jim King and all remaining grandchildren. Claude Vincent Mauldin was born on November 15, 1925 in a bar ditch near Willow, Oklahoma to Tuff and Orlou Mamie (Allen) Mauldin. He died at home on January 11, 2024 at the age of 98. He grew up during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl of Oklahoma. He graduated from Lake Creek School in 1944 and continued dry land farming with his family until he was drafted into the army in 1945. He was inducted on April 25, 1945 at Indian Station, Oklahoma City, OK. He was a corporal in the 7th Cavalry Regiment, Troop D. He was a Military Policeman and a Rifle Marksman. He also served as a guard at the Tokyo War Crime Tribunals of World War II. His parents picked him up in a horse-drawn wagon from Fort Bliss at the end of his service in 1947. The family moved to Farmington and then later, Las Cruces, NM. Claude moved to Artesia around 1960 where he met Betty Cook. They were married June 4, 1961 and went home to an instant family of 8 (each had 4 children from previous marriages). They later added 2 more. Claude enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and usually brought along the cousins and all the kids. Family was extremely important to him. Claude was truly a jack of all trades. Some of the many jobs he held were military police, farmer, migrant crop worker, oxygen delivery man in Las Cruces, repairman at Cruces Auto Parts, miner at IMC Potash Mines, deckworker on various drilling rigs, operator of the gas station next to A&W in Artesia, salesman at Bush Auto Parts, licensed plumber for Artesia Plumbing & Heating, parts manager at Bilco Supply, contractor building houses with Bill Krogman, street sweeper in Artesia and woodworker. Claude was known to be a great horse trader and recycled scrap iron and cans his entire life. In his retirement, he and Betty built yard art and old wood furniture. They were always going to craft shows wherever she signed up! They loved to go to garage and estate sales and one of his favorite things was dumpster diving. A few years ago, Chris found him hanging upside down in a dumpster and had to pull him out! He was a member of several churches throughout his life but was currently attending Guadalupe Christian Mission. Claude was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Betty (Cook) Mauldin; his parents, Tuff and Orlou Mauldin, sister Ida Faye Mauldin, brothers Milton Mauldin, Orlan Mauldin, G.A. (Curly) Mauldin, Sister-in-laws Dorothy Mauldin, Katie Bell Mauldin, Brother-in-law Glenn Lindsey, Grandsons Jason Kennedy and Ryan Baker. He is survived by his sister, Naomi Zell (Mauldin) Lindsey, his brother, Nando Lee Mauldin, sons Johnnie Ray Mauldin (Stacey), Claude Milton Mauldin (Pam), Jim Vincent Mauldin (Margaret), Christopher Wayne Mauldin (Sharon), Daughters Charlotte Ann Shoults (Greg), Nancy Carol Coon (Michael), Carolyn Mauldin; Connie Jean Baker (Sheryl), Clarissa Jo Hadley (Jim), Tanya Lois Mauldin (Robert), 33 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, 16 great, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews that love him dearly. He was affectionately known as More Grandpa, and More More Grandpa by many of his great grandchildren. He had a way of making each one of them feel like they were his favorite! He loved singing songs and telling stories to everyone. Some of his favorite sayings: All I need is a smile and a few kind words. I don't need your presents, just your presence. I just want everyone to love one another and be happy. Graveside services are scheduled for 10 am Saturday, January 13 at Woodbine Cemetery for George W. Zednick of Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Zednick, 79, died on January 9, 2024 at his home in Artesia. Cheto Moreno will officiate at the services. George was born on April 30, 1944 in Wheeling W. Virginia; the son of Joseph Jacob Zednick and Mary Maguerite Wells Zednick. After graduating from Artesia High School in 1962, he immediately joined the Army Reserves. In 1963, he went into active duty with the United States Army 101st Airborne Division. He was an aircraft mechanic and repairman working mostly on helicopters. He served three tours in Vietnam and also spent time in Germany. George was married to Barbara Pierce on October 9, 1974 in Artesia. He worked at the AMAX Chemical until 1993 and then was with I&W until his retirement in 2010. After retirement he enjoyed woodworking, golfing, fishing, traveling the country in their RV, and also walking his dog. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Kristie Marie Hester, three brothers and a sister. Survivors include his wife Barbara Zednick; sons Jimmy Lee Zednick, and George Scott Zednick and wife Julie; daughters Shirlene Ryan and husband Joe, Sharma Joyce and husband David, and Misti Jackson and husband Keith; also by 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Viola was called to her eternal resting place on December 27, 2023. She entered this world on May 24, 1964, in Artesia, NM, to Aniceto and Victorina Munoz. In her 59 years she was a Homemaker, Cosmetologist, Caregiver, and Driver. Viola was funny, Caring, Generous, and loving Woman. Viola loved her Family very very much. Her grandchildren were her life. She had many friends and family that she cared for dearly. She was someone who always made an impression any where she went. Everyone knew if your phone rang late at night it was definitely Vi! Survivors include her Father, Aniceto Munoz, Sister's, Ida De La Rosa, Gloria De La Rosa, Lucy Morgan, Helen Munoz, and Mary Randle. Viola has 4 Sons: Michael and Delia, Mitch, Fabian and Kinsey, Michah. 5 Grandchildren; Monica Rios, Priscilla Munoz, Ella Munoz, McKenna Munoz, Elijah "wreck it ralph" Munoz. Husband Jaime Nieto. Psalms 28:7 "The Lord is my Strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my songs I Praise Him". Jesusita Garcia, 82, passed away December 30, 2023, at her home after a long battle with cancer. She was born to WW II Veteran Jose Martinez & wife Modesta Losoya in Mercedes, TX on August 30, 1941. She was a homemaker and married 52 years to her husband Epimenio H. Garcia who preceded in death on August 2, 2020. She is preceded in death by her parents Jose Martinez, Modesta Losoya Maldonado, sisters Demetria Sanchez, Irene Garza, and brother Bonifacio Garcia, step-sons Reno Garcia, Mario Garcia. She is survived by her daughters Eufemia Garcia of the home of Artesia, NM, Lisa & Samuel Lewis of Artesia, NM, son Jesus & Erica Garcia of Artesia, NM, step-daughters Stella Pena of Odessa, TX, Mary & Javier Chavez of Lyden, WA, brothers Carlos & Sheila Garcia of Kerman, CA, Pete & Dora Garcia of Fresno, CA, sisters Juanita Montejano of Fresno, CA, Berta Zabal of Fresno, CA, Mary De Leon of Fresno, CA. She was blessed with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her favorite things to do was cook for her family and make tortillas, she was a prayer warrior, loved God and enjoy going to church, and spending time with family. She was always wearing her Christmas apron each time she cooked, and was loved for her fresh beans, rice and tamales by all who ate at her house. Services will be held at her home church Trinity Temple on Saturday, January 6, 2024 officiated by Pastor Bobby Argo at 10:00 a.m. follow by her burial at Woodbine Cemetery in Artesia, NM. A viewing will be on Friday January 5, 2024 between 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. at Terpening & Son Mortuary. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Samson Lewis, Xavier Garcia, Lucas Garcia, Kyler Smoot, brothers Pete Garcia, Carlos Garcia. Jesusita's smiles and glow of sunshine will be missed by her family and all who knew her; and we know she is resting in heaven in peace with our Savior.

A Memorial service is scheduled for January 6th at 2pm at Faith Baptist Church. Raynell Ann "Annie" Dinsmoor was born in 1955 in California. Always a free spirit, she traveled for several years around the western part of the U S. until she settled in Cheyenne, WY through the 1990s. She moved to Artesia, NM in the early 2000s to be closer to her family and a lot of old friends."Annie," as she was known to most of Artesia, had a good heart surrounded by a rough exterior. She had a tough time in life but will now receive the blessings of peace that come as a reward for caring about others. She loved animals and kids and will be remembered with love.She was preceded in death by her father Riley Bradshaw, mother Nancy Cornwell/Hernandez/Searan, and sister Rhonda Adele Jensen.She is survived by her sister Karen Metz of Urbana, Ohio, her sister Robin English and brother James Hernandez both of Artesia, and sons Michael Dinsmoor Jr and Michael Dinsmoor III.

Robert Lowell Byrd

Robert Lowell (Bob) Byrd passed away on December 27th 2023 in his home surrounded by family. Bob was born on July 7th 1949 in Eunice, NM, to Robert Archie and Bertha Byrd. On June 26th 1970 he married Cathy (Phillips) Byrd in Artesia. Bob worked in the oilfield as a consultant for 20+ years, retiring in 2012. He was very intelligent, hard working and loved helping people, always whistling while he worked. He loved being in the mountains, hunting and camping and wood working in his shop. Bob had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with family. One of his favorite things to do was "taste" lick his family when you were least expecting it. He is preceded in death by both parents, Archie & Bertha Byrd and his older brother Wesley Dee Byrd. He is survived by his wife Cathy Byrd of 53 years, daughters Jodie Atwood and husband Daniel Atwood of Casper, WY, Christie McKnight and husband Lee McKnight Jr. of Casper, WY, and Brandie Byrd of Artesia, NM, 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Loved by family and many friends and will be greatly missed by all. There will be a celebration of life gathering on Saturday December 30th @ 2 PM at 35 Sun Country Drive, Artesia, NM.

A graveside service will be held at the Fairview Memorial Cemetery in Albuquerque, New Mexico at 2 pm Wednesday, December 27, for Eunice M. Kinney of Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Kinney, 92, died on December 21, 2023 at her home in Artesia. Eunice was born on August 24, 1931 in Estancia, New Mexico; the daughter of Claude Estes and Marie Milbourn Estes. Eunice was a natural born homemaker, not only raising her kids but her brothers along side them. She loved being around family, especially her grandchildren and watching them grow. She was a simple woman and never needed much. She never missed a day of watching her game shows, soap operas, and wrestling. She had a very blessed life and was ready to join her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold Kinney, sons Michael Williams and Leon O'Gwynn, and a brother Claude Estes Jr. Survivors include her children Joan Domain, Scott Braffett, Diane Kinney, Lee Kinney and Linda Ellis; brothers Rodger Estes and wife Sheila, and Robert Estes; 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
