"Thomas Edward Ivines passed away at the age of 58 at his home in Miami, Florida. Tom was born in Miami, Florida on September21, 1965. He moved to Trenton, Florida when he was ten years old and graduated from Trenton High School. He returned to Miami and studied midi music and analog sound studio at Miami Dade College. He later became a certified UAS Pilot and Instructor and was a DJI technician. He began working at Power Mower Sales in 1994 and immediately became part of their extended family. From a young age, he enjoyed working with electronics, engines, motors and computers. His vehicles, mowers, scooters and drones were his prized possessions. He hosted the website drxmedia, was an administrator of several drone FB groups, and was nicknamed the Drone Master. He enjoyed flying his many drones all over Miami and sharing the breathtaking pictures he captured. Tom was an animal lover and was preceded in death by his beloved dogs Wookie and Zeus. Mr. Ivines is survived by his father Thomas W. Ivines, his stepmother, Gloria Ivines, three brothers, Ryan Ivines, Keith Ivines and Juddson Ivines, an aunt, Charlene Bielling, two uncles, JD Ivines and Don Anderson, a nephew, Eden Ivines, two great aunts Patricia Goolsby and Barbara Tankersley, his longtime friend Chuck Long, and his family at Power Mower Sales. He was preceded in death by his mother Joyce Ivines. A celebration of life will be held for Tom on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Van Orsdel Funeral Home, 11220 N Kendall Drive, Miami, Florida 33176. On Wednesday, November 29, 2023, our mother, grandmother, and sister, Hortencia R. Portilla, age 86, was carried gently into Jesus' arms, her last and heavenly home. She was born May 21, 1937, in Port Lavaca, Texas to the late Juan Reyes and Faustina Velasquez Reyes. Visitation will be Monday, December 4, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM at Grace Funeral Chapel, 1604 West Austin Street in Port Lavaca. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, 415 W. Austin Street in Port Lavaca with Father Tommy Chen to officiate. Burial will follow at Port Lavaca Cemetery, 500 Martin Luther King Drive in Port Lavaca. Mom loved watching her favorite football teams, The Dallas Cowboys, and The Calhoun Sandcrabs. Mom could be found sitting quietly in her living room watching her "Novelas" on TV. Her favorite past time was spending time with her family, parents, in-laws, her beloved grandchildren, and taking summer vacations and trips. Her most memorable times were working in her garden. She loved yellow roses and reading her bible. May you rest in peace, Mom. Honoring Hortencia as pallbearers will be Leo V. Reyes, Reynaldo V. Reyes, Joe Reyes, Jr. , Joel Arellano, Fernando Balboa, and Travis Warden. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rudolpho Portilla, Joseph Portilla and Joshua TrevinoIn addition to her parents, Hortencia was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ascension "Johnny" Portilla; sisters, Mary Garza, Elvira Villarreal, and Ramona Balboa; brothers, Jesse Reyes, Joe Reyes, Sr. and Joe Martinez, Jr. She is survived by her children, Flora Childress (Mike), Rudy Portilla (Erlinda); 5 grandchildren; sister, Oralia Arellano; brothers, Leo V. Reyes, Reynaldo V. Reyes "Rey"; along with many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Our family would like to give a special thanks to all the nurses, doctors, and physical therapy staff at South Brooke Manor for their professionalism and care.
