Naugatuck - Lois Labriola, 92, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023, at her home. She was the beloved wife of Dr. Jerry Labriola. Mrs. Labriola was born on May 8, 1931, in Waterbury, the daughter of the late George and Viola (Carlson) Follett. A lifelong Naugatuck resident, she graduated from Naugatuck High School, Class of 1949, Skidmore College, Class of 1953, and obtained her Masters in Psychology at Southern Connecticut State University. She was a School Psychologist for the Naugatuck Board of Education for thirty years. She was an active member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church, where she was involved with the Knit Wits, a knitting group that supported area children’s organizations. Lois loved her family and was grateful to have spent time with each and every family member. She and Jerry loved traveling, literally circling the globe several times, and they enjoyed experiencing many cultures in nearly every country on earth. She chronicled their travels in dozens of scrapbooks, where she narrated all the photos she took around the world. She spent her time reading fiction, doing crossword puzzles and especially loved cheering on the UConn Women’s Basketball team. Earlier this year, Lois and Jerry celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Lois is survived by her husband Jerry, children Jerry Labriola, Jr. and his wife Barbara, David Labriola and his wife Joanna, and Sue Labriola; her brother George "Bud" Follett (Marie); her grandchildren Kristen (Mark), Jane (Ian), Sarah (Kevin), Lindsey, Nick (Andrea), Alex, and Kate; as well as her ten great-grandchildren. James O'Halloran

Ansonia, CT James Joseph O'Halloran III, D. O. , 65, passed away on November 24, 2023, in Ansonia, CT. James was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1957, in Danbury, CT, as the oldest of five siblings of the late James "Jim" O'Halloran Jr. and Marilyn "Lynn" (Nardello) O'Halloran. James was raised in Wilton, CT and graduated from Wilton High School. He studied biology at The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA and went on to earn his medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine. James was a believer in the Jesuit education and was passionate about lifelong learning, from science, history, philosophy to literature. A dedicated physician for 37 years, Dr. O'Halloran found joy in his career by building bonds with his patients and continuously studying the practice of medicine. He most recently worked at Cornell Scott Hill Health Center in Ansonia, CT and served as Infectious Disease Director at Community Health and Wellness Center of Greater Torrington. From 1999 to 2015, Dr. O'Halloran spent the majority of his career as a physician at the University of Connecticut Correctional Managed Health Care where he cared for inmates. Dr. O'Halloran built and ran his own private practice for internal medicine, infectious disease and travel medicine in Torrington, CT from 1992 to 2006. He also enjoyed sharing his knowledge with students by teaching at the University of Connecticut, Quinnipiac University and Yale University as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor. James was proud of his Italian and Irish roots and enjoyed cooking family recipes, particularly ones passed down from his Italian side. He was an avid reader, with a special interest in history and science fiction as well as Shakespearean plays. He enjoyed swimming, fishing, gardening, raising his children, taking care of his dogs, and accurately predicting the ending of movies and television shows. He loved Star Trek and other science fiction films, but his favorite movie was The Godfather. He appreciated music, including Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, and The Cars. He spent time with his extended family at his parents' beach home in Clinton, CT, Stratton Mountain in Vermont, as well as the homes of his siblings and in-laws. James was the husband of Bernadette O'Halloran for 29 years. He is survived by his children, Caitlin O'Halloran, Brandon O'Halloran, Kelly O'Halloran and son-in-law, Tom Owens, as well as his siblings, Cathy O'Halloran, Mark O'Halloran, Kevin O'Halloran and Susan Rockett. In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his sister, Mary O'Halloran; his maternal grandparents, James "Jimmy" and Winifred "Winnie" Nardello; his paternal grandparents, James and Alice Gillespie O'Halloran and his maternal great aunt, Lucy Nardello. Betsey Nixon 1931 - 2023 Betsey Beebe (Smith) Nixon, affectionately known as Bets, passed away on November 25, 2023, at the age of 92 in Southbury, CT. She was born on August 12, 1931, in Sayville, Long Island, New York, to Hervey Garrett Smith and Elsie (Beebe) Smith. Betsey was a strong and loving woman who cherished her family dearly. She leaves behind a rich legacy and will be dearly missed. Betsey is survived by her two sons and two daughters, Howard Nixon Jr, Ellen Nixon and husband Richard Mancuso, Sheila Nixon, Tim Nixon and wife Lisa Sansone, along with nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, plus two imminently expected additions. Betsey was predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years, Howard J. Nixon Sr. , and their son, David J. Nixon. Their memories will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who loved them. Betsey graduated from her hometown Sayville High School and from Dean Junior College in Franklin, MA, where she met the love of her life, Howie Sr. , a star swimmer and "the boy in the yellow sneakers. " She also attended the New York School for Interior Design. Betsey inherited an artistic talent and an eye for the aesthetic from her father, a renowned commercial artist and successful author. And at every stage in her life, she applied her artistic talent and skill with interior design to beautify the world around her. Betsey passed along her love of gardening, knitting, quilting and other artistic endeavors to her children and grandchildren. Although Betsey dedicated her life to being a stay-at-home mom, she also successfully managed two small businesses. She owned and operated The House of Flowers shop in Naugatuck and later ran a Needlepoint Art business called Port Designs in Kennebunkport, Maine. In their leisure time, Betsey and Howie enjoyed spending summers at their beloved seaside home in Kennebunkport, Maine, which they purchased in 1978. She cherished these moments, developed new lifelong friendships and created countless memories with her family and friends. Betsey also enjoyed keeping her mind sharp solving daily crossword puzzles and following the UCONN Women's basketball program with Howie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 1st, at 10 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street in Naugatuck, CT. Joan Corsino

Age - 86

Joan M. Corsino, 86, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2023 after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was the wife of the late Alfred S. Corsino. Joan was born on December 9, 1936 in Waterbury, Connecticut, daughter of the late William McDonald Sr. and Lillian (Greenwood) McDonald. Joan spent most of her young years growing up in Waterbury. Her family later moved to Woodbury and she graduated from Woodbury High School in 1954. She raised her family in Naugatuck and was active in the community for over 50 years serving on many boards and commissions. Joan loved education, she received a Master's of Education from SCSU, studied and worked in computer programing and was a licensed real estate broker in Connecticut. Joan taught math and science at Hemingway Park School in Watertown and after retirement became an integral part in the family's real estate development business. Joan had many diverse interests. She loved the arts and painting, was an accomplished seamstress designing and sewing many elaborate outfits for her granddaughter and her fellow competitors for their figure skating competitions. She was a licensed genealogist who traveled throughout the country and abroad to do extensive family research. Joan loved traveling with Al and visited numerous countries throughout their years together. Joan dedicated her life to the caring of others. She was always there for family and friends when they needed her most. The family would especially like to thank those who worked so diligently to care for Joan. Her aides; Winsome, Elsie and Annetta, the staff of the Villa and AccentCare Hospice. Joan is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Vitiello and her husband Gary of Woodbury, her sons; Michael Peterson and his wife Alayne and Richard Peterson both of Wichita, Kansas, her granddaughter, Alyson Rebibo and her husband Jason of Woodland Hills, California, her three great grandchildren; Hudson, Emerson and Jaxson of Woodland Hills, California, her sisters; Vicky Joray of Ft Myers FL, Anna Spardone and her brother Bruce McDonald both of Naugatuck. In addition to her husband and parents, Joan was predeceased by her siblings; Lois Cash, Patricia LePine, John (Jackie) McDonald, William McDonald Jr. and Richard McDonald. Burial will be private. Kevin Pianka

With devastated and saddened hearts we must let everyone know about the passing of our loving brother Kevin K. Pianka who passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at home at just 58 years old. Never did we think that Kevin would miss growing old with us and helping us to care for one another as we age. Kevin was the son of the most loving parents Stanislaw and Marianna Pianka who immigrated from Poland to Naugatuck CT in 1964 with 4 boys (born in Poland) and the 5th, Kevin born in the USA on May 8, 1965. Mom sent a picture to her own mother in Poland and noted "Here is Kevin, our little American. " Then his little sister Elizabeth (Ela) was born in December 1966. He loved all of his brothers equally. He spent much time with them working on cars, fixing homes, and he said "I just want everyone to be happy. " He had an extra special connection with his only sister who considered herself his younger twin because they had so much in common. He said, "This is my seester". Just 1. 5 yrs. apart they went to St. Hedwig's Polish grammar school and Sacred Heart H. S. together. When Kevin's light blue Charger started up in the morning to drive Ela to H. S. he made sure the 8 track player was blasting his favorite Led Zeppelin tunes so they could both rock out singing together. Kevin was so proud to have had such a close relationship with his father and mother. He cherished them. He'd walk in and say "Hi momma" and she'd instantly smile and reach her hands out to him. Most times dancing and singing together. Everything he accomplished and everything he surpassed he did to make his mother, father, and family proud. He was the first person to give you a compliment, the first to cheer you up, to help you fix your car or house because he had such a caring heart. He cared about everyone and always told us who reached out to him and how he really appreciated people who loved him and remembered him. He had many friends he called "brother" and he will miss each and every one. He was a true "Union City" boy. He loved his town and people in it. He will be remembered for all of his kindness, his caring blue eyes, his warm hugs, his jokes and laughter, his love of 80's rock music, his keeping up with new tunes/dance music, and for the way he loved his family, including cousins in the USA and Poland. He also loved the color "purple" and when shopping with Ela would ask which purple shirt he would look best in. I think he looked great in all of them because it was his wonderful spirit that made him shine. Besides, I think he was the most handsome anyway, with his blonde hair and blue eyes. A space will be missing at the holiday table this year where we will miss his hugs, warmth, and laughter. We were all so proudof him and his wonderful cooking. Kevin was a master chefwho always added just the right spices. He was predeceased by his parents Stanislaw & Marianna Pianka & also 6 siblings in Poland. He leaves behind his 5siblings from oldest to youngest Marian (Mike) Pianka, wife Heidi, Teddy Pianka, John Pianka, Richard Pianka, and 1-sister Elizabeth Pianka May, husband Richard. He also leaves behind a son Steven Woodfield of Naugatuck, who he loved so much and was so proud of. In addition he leaves behind a nephew Michael Pianka, and 3 nieces Elisa (Pianka) Palumbo, wife Nikki, Lindsay Pianka, and Sarah (Doyle) Tingley. Waterbury -- Raymond R. Aubertin, 73, passed away on November 19, 2023 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the devotedhusband of Carol Ann (Tuminski) Aubertin for 50 years. He was the son of the late Raymond Aubertin and Shirley (Rogers) Aubertin Richards. Mr. Aubertin graduated from W. F. Kaynor Technical High School Class of 1968. In addition, he received degrees from Waterbury State Technical College, Mattatuck Community College, and Post University. He was employed by the City of Waterbury as a SPO Operator at their Waste Treatment Plant and retired after 26 years of service. He was also a licensed Certified Public Accountant. He worked for several area firms which included a 10-year stint as Finance Director for Greater Waterbury Management Resources, which was the profit-making division of Waterbury Hospital. He took his responsibilities of being a husband and father very seriously. He was a devout Catholic and lived his life by its teachings of lending a hand to anyone who needed help. In addition to his wife, Raymond is survived by his beloved son Christopher R. Aubertin and his partner Joan "Angie" Napier of Lakewood, WA; two sisters, Patricia Lawson and husband John and Barbara Jean Peck and husband Michael, all of Virginia; a brother Kenneth Aubertin and wife Donna Mancini of Prospect; a Sister-in-Law Joyce Aubertin along with several nieces and nephews. Joao Ferreira Rodrigues, 89, of Naugatuck, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19th. Joao was born on September 24th, 1934 in Gafanha da Encarnacao, Portugal. In his younger years, he was a fisherman in Brazil who moved his family to the United States in 1974. He went on to become a construction business owner & pave the way for generations to come. Joao was a man of integrity & overflowing joy who loved those around him fiercely. He never missed an opportunity to get out on the dance floor at parties or to bring people together over a celebratory meal. He valued community: with family & friends, his church, and the greater Portuguese community. Even as Alzheimer's began to steal his memories, he never lost his love for family, his faith in Jesus, or his jubilant spirit. The only thing that could hold a candle to Joao's love for family was his family's love for him. He is survived by the love of his life - his devoted wife of 63 years, Ausenda. He will be greatly missed by his greatest pride, his family: son John & wife Victoria, son Joe & wife Maria, and his grandchildren: Ivana, Juliana, Jake, Emilia, and Alexander. Steve Husarick, Jr. age 82, of Naugatuck, CT, passed away unexpectedly in his home on November 19, 2023. He was born in Holden, WV on September 5, 1941 to the late Rawse (Gilman) and Steve Husarick. As a young man he relocated to Connecticut where he found work at GE, Remington Arms, and a few other local companies. Later he started his own business, Southside Auto Body in Bridgeport. Steve resided in Trumbull with his family for 34 years before moving to Naugatuck, CT. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, spending time with family and was a long-time NY Giants fan. Steve was predeceased by his beloved wife of 30 years, Vera (Arlia) Husarick, and brothers Rush Sheppard, Peter and Eugene Husarick. He is survived by his devoted daughter Donna and her husband Bill Butterworth, four loving grandchildren, Lindsay(Butterworth) and her husband Deni Rullo, Jennifer, Matthew, and Justin Butterworth; two great grandchildren Alaina and Giovanni; his brother Richard L. Husarick, three sisters Kay and her husband Clyde Akers, Catherine and her husband Ed Dmitruk, Minnie Bumgarner, and many nieces and nephews. Rita M. (Bartolomucci) Ruggiero of Naugatuck died on November 19, 2023 at the age of 102, surrounded by her family. Rita (Restituta) was born in Isola di Liri in Provincia di Frosinone on September 24, 1921. She was the daughter of Antonia Bianchi and Pietro Bartolomucci. She immigrated to the United States with her parents in 1929. Rita grew up in Beacon Falls and Naugatuck, was educated in local schools, and attended Post Junior College of Business. She was proud to be a United States citizen, and she was proud to be a resident of Naugatuck. Rita worked for UniRoyal, the United States Rubber Company, for 40 years. She worked in manufacturing for 10 years and was the secretary - treasurer of Union Local 45 of the United Rubber Workers Union for 30 years. Rita served the community in many capacities. She was the first woman member of the Naugatuck Board of Finance and served on the Naugatuck High School Building Committee. She was the chair of the Mothers' March on Polio, served on the board of the Naugatuck Chapter of the American Red Cross and the United Way. Rita was also a long-standing member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Christopher Columbus Club, holding each of the organization's offices including president. She was a member of the Naugatuck Historical Society and looked forward to reading the newsletters and attending meetings. She was a lifelong communicant of Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Naugatuck and was a member of the parish counsel. Rita was devoted to her family and friends and leaves behind her four children: Francesca of Hershey, PA, John Jr. of Naugatuck, CT, Regina of Naugatuck, CT, and Peter of Belmont, MA. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, and godchildren, as well as cousins in Italy and Canada. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, John P. Ruggiero, Sr. , her sisters Teresina and Barbara Bartolomucci, and her daughter, Maria F. Ruggiero. The family would like to thank the staff of Waterbury Hospital for their kindness and support during her final days. The family would like to extend special thanks to Janice Murray, who was mom's companion and friend during the past four years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 9:30am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck, CT 06770.
