Anthony "Tony" Marnerakis, 91, husband of Maria Simos Marnerakis of West Haven for 60 years,passed peacefully on October 3, 2023 Anthony was born in Chania-Crete, Greece and came to the United States in 1953 He worked hard in the restaurant business, spending most of his career as head chef of the 95 House in North Haven, before owning his own business, Jerri's Luncheonette , in West Haven Besides his love of cooking, Anthony enjoyed spending time in his garden, caring for his roses, dahlias, fig trees and vegetables He also enjoyed traveling, and took many trips abroad to Europe with his wife Maria Anthony leaves behind his 3 children, Stella Terry of Cheshire, Renee (David) Cascio of Southington, and Anastasio (Francesca) Marnerakis of East Haven In addition, Anthony was a loving "Popou," and is survived by his beloved grandchildren, Gabriella and Alexander Terry, and Olivia and Victoria Cascio He is also survived by his brother, Pantelis Marnerakis (Maria) of Chania-Crete, Greece Anthony was the son of the late Stelianos and Steliani (Anastasakis) Marnerakis He was predeceased by three siblings, Vassilis Marnerakis, Costas Marnerakis and Despina Galanakis Friends and family are invited to attend funeral services at St Barbara Church on October 10 at 11:00 am Calling hours in church prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 Interment will be private In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St Barbara Building Fund May his memory be eternal To to the family or in memory of Anthony Marnerakis, please

Elder Whitfield

"Elder Kathleen Whitfield aka "Kathryn," "Kathy" and "Cool Kathy" was born in Williamsburg County, SC on March 22, 1938 to the late Joseph "Gussie" Whitfield Sr. and Belinda "Gega" Whitfield; she was one of twenty one children. Elder Whitfield attended the South Carolina School System and after graduating, eventually relocating to New Haven, CT in the 60\u0027s to work. Elder Whitfield eventually obtained employment and held many different positions, from laundry to nursing, but the position that she is and was most familiar with is that of counter person / cashier at Sylvan Cleaners where she worked for over 35 years. She met so many people and touched so many lives with her presence, she is also known as "the Lady from the Cleaners. " She finally retired around 15 years ago. Elder Whitfield loved to sing and attend church. She sang with numerous groups and one of the best choirs in Connecticut, the Mt. Zion Gospel Chorus, where she led songs such as "Heaven on My Mind" and "Let Everybody Say Amen. " She also taught Sunday School for many years under the leadership of the late Bishop George Grannison at Mt. Zion F. B. H. Church and at Holy Nation Tabernacle Sounds of Praise under the leadership of Bishop Mary Walton, her sister. Not only did she teach Sunday School, she also directed the Tiny Tots and Youth and Young Adult Choirs, she ushered for many years and whatever she found her hands to do in the House of the Lord, she did it wholeheartedly as unto the Lord, including cleaning the church and setting up communion. Elder Whitfield accepted the call on her life as a minister in the mid 90\u0027s under the leadership of the late Bishop E. Williamson. Elder Whitfield was a faithful servant to God all the way up until she preached her last sermon a few months ago, "Jesus is Calling, What is Your Response?" She gave that same sermon as God told her to for months, coming from the Book of Luke chapter 14, verses 16-23. Elder Whitfield understood the assignment and did the work. She will be greatly missed. She leaves to cherish her memory, her 3 children, Yvette (Vicky) Armour of Greensboro, NC, Pastor Designate S. Alexander (Alex) Boyd Sr. of Hamden, CT and Elder Belinda (Maria) Whitfield of East Haven, CT; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grands, 8 siblings; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Lee Shaw

Age - 65

Our beloved Lee Shaw completed his life's journey at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Monday, December 4, 2023, at the age of 65. He was born on April 30, 1958, as a twin with his sister, Linda in Clearwater, Florida to the Late Wilken Seward and Emma Jane Shaw. The Shaw family decided to move again on July 2, 1967, making New Haven, CT their permanent residency. Lee attended Richard C. Lee High School with his siblings and peers. After high school Lee found his passion in culinary arts. For many years, Lee worked as a chef in various restaurants throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts. The Old Heidelberg was one of the more memorable restaurants that Lee worked for as the "Head Chef". Lee was a lover of music. In his early years he was a collector of all genres of music on vinyl records. Lee was also a sports fan. Most know that Lee's favorite football team was "The Miami Dolphins". In his later years, Lee relocated to Massachusetts where he worked as a chef for the Salvation Army for many years. He moved back to New Haven several years ago and resided at Bella Vista, Senior Living. Lee enjoyed traveling with his siblings and visited many cities throughout the United States. He leaves to cherish the memory of him, his son, Quincy Lee Shaw, last known Atlanta, GA; brother, Seward Shaw (Diane) of Florence, SC; sisters, Barbara McCotter of Cheshire, CT and Linda Shaw (Twin) of Cheshire, CT; and a host of nieces and nephews along with lifelong friends. Lee leaves behind keen memories for his nieces and nephews who can all agree and remember "Uncle Lee" as the "Money Uncle". He always had change to give out to his nieces and nephews. He was very generous, caring, and compassionate to his loved ones. Michael Lawrence McManus, Ph. D. , 85, beloved and devoted husband of Katherine (D'Antonio) McManus, passed away on November 16, 2023. Born in Chicago, IL, December 8, 1937, he was son of the late Lawrence P. and Mary (Selle) McManus. Mike was a research scientist with the USDA Forest Service in Hamden, CT, for his entire career, which began in 1966 after earning his Ph. D. in Forest Entomology from Purdue University. He retired in 2010 after 41 years of service and was an active emeritus scientist up to the time of his death. From 1972-1980, Mike served as Project Leader of the Forest Service research work unit that focused on behavior and population dynamics of forest insects. In 1980, he was appointed by the Secretary of the Department of Agriculture to serve as the Research Coordinator of the USDA Combined Forest Pest Program on the Spongy Moth (formerly called gypsy moth); in 1985 returned as Project Leader of the unit that focused on insect pathology and microbial control of forest insects, a position he held until his retirement in 2010. Mike was very involved in international research and stressed the importance of a global perspective in dealing with invasive species. He was also passionate about mentoring new scientists and connecting people across disciplines and around the world. Mike was a crucial player in the organization of several conferences in North America and Europe over a 10-year period and in 2010, Mike was presented the George Varley Award for Achievement in Forest Entomology. This award recognizes outstanding Forest Entomologists, both for their scientific accomplishments and their contributions to the International Union of Forestry Research Organizations (IUFRO). He leaves a tremendous legacy with his contributions to forest pest management, and a vast network of collaborators who will miss him very much. In addition to his wife, Katherine, Mike is survived by his son Brian McManus, step-son Nick DeCapua and his fiancee Shawn Dapp, his cherished grandson, Eli DeCapua, and special grandchildren Allison and Connor Dapp. Predeceased by his son, M. Patrick McManus. Mike leaves many dear friends and colleagues both here and around the world. He will be remembered as a loving, caring, kind and insightful man. 'You colored my world. "Edward Errol Wormley, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, just 21 days before his 88th birthday. He was born to the late James Wormley and Vivian Hickman Wormley. Edward was born and raised in Vivian, West Virginia and later moved to New Haven, CT. He worked for Valley Container as a truck driver for over 40 years before retiring in 2014. He was happily married to Alice Mae Wormley for 43 years. He loved to dress in the finest clothing, which included the most fashionable hats. Edward loved sports, in high school he was an All American football player. He also enjoyed watching football, his favorite team was the Giants, as well as basketball, favorite team, the Knicks. He loved to cook Sunday dinners while listening to Gospel music. He enjoyed the company of family and friends. He will be sorely missed. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, James and Vivian Wormley; his wife, Alice Mae Wormley; one brother, James Wormley; and sister-in-law, Grace Wormley. Janett Nabors

Janett Marie Brown Nabors was born on February 8, 1942, in Caswell County, North Carolina, to the late Alner Brown and the late Bessie Brown. Janett died peacefully on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. She was the beloved mother of her sons, William R. Nabors, Jr. (Margo) and Philip W. Nabors (Linda) and loving grandmother to Jordan D. Nabors, William R. Nabors, III, Trevor J. Nabors, and Lailah M. Nabors. Janett took a leap of faith and moved to Connecticut to be closer to her brother, Willie L. Brown, Sr. Soon after her arrival, she met and married her former husband, William R. Nabors, Sr. God blessed their union with two sons: William R. Nabors, Jr. and Philip W. Nabors. Janett and her former husband raised their sons with love, compassion, kindness, and discipline. She became an integral part of her extended Nabors family. The family vacationed together and enjoyed family reunions and celebrated birthdays, holidays, and special occasions together. Janett worked at Yale University Medical Center for 35 + years and also worked part-time at the Veterans Administration where she led many clinical studies as well as the American Heart Association. Janett also received an award from Yale for her work in the Program on Aging. She held many roles over her tenure, primarily as a programmer/research analyst. Janett was naturally artistic and her sons recalled how much she enjoyed sewing for them when they were young. Janett saw God's beauty in the very nature around her and had an innate ability to nurture plants and keep them alive. Janett had a brilliant and creative mind which was demonstrated in the numerous self-taught skills she mastered throughout her life. She refurbished numerous pieces of antique furniture, learned to crochet, and designed and developed unique pieces of jewelry which she sold at craft fairs in the region. Janett accepted the Lord as her Savior and was baptized at a very young age. Upon moving to Connecticut, she first attended Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church before becoming an active and longtime parishioner of Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church. Her faith was rooted in the Lord. She demonstrated her commitment to Him by serving as a member of the Mass Choir, actively participating in her We are One group, serving as the Budget committee secretary, attending Adult Sunday School, and passionately serving for many years as the audio/visual coordinator. Janett leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sons, William R. Nabors, Jr. (Margo) of Hamden, CT and Philip W. Nabors (Linda) of High Point, NC; her four grandchildren, Jordan D. Nabors of Chattanooga, TN, William R. Nabors, III of Hamden, CT, Trevor J. Nabors of High Point, NC, and Lailah M. Nabors of Hamden, CT; two brothers, James Brown (Margaret) of Sun City, FL and Edward Brown of Ruffin, NC; her long-time companion, Ezekiel Carr; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Louise J. Riddick was the fourth of nine children born to the late Jasper and Mary Riddick. She was born on April 18, 1933 in Gatesville, North Carolina. The Lord called Louise home on November 28, 2023. Louise was educated in the Gatesville School District. She graduated from Buckland High School. Louise accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at the Middle Swamp Baptist Church in Corapeake, North Carolina. Louise chose to spend the rest of her life trying to follow the principles of God's Word and helping others. Soon after graduation, she moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to attend their school of practical nursing. After living in Philadelphia for a few years, she moved to Waterbury, Connecticut. She worked for Hemmingway until her retirement. After retirement, Louise enjoyed traveling, cooking, and feeding others. Prayer was her answer to all problems. Lousie leaves to cherish her memory, sister, Magdalene Smith. She was predeceased by her siblings, Moses Riddick, Era Riddick, Robert Riddick, Mary Norfleet, Bertha Pitts, Jackson Riddick, and Virginia Wiggins. Sebastian Rapuano

Sebastian John Rapuano, 91, of Northford, (aka Stephen / Steve / Uncle Do-Do) passed away peacefully on Dec. 4, 2023, at Mid-State Medical Center, Meriden. He was the beloved husband of the late Marjorie Ann (Rienzo) Rapuano, to whom he was married to for 54 years. He is survived by his daughter, Joanne Rapuano (with husband, Daryl Hicks) of Rockledge, Florida. He also leaves behind several beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Marie Fasano & Lenore Mandato of New Haven. Born in New Haven in 1932, he was the son of the late John and Theresa (Valenzano) Rapuano. Stephen served in the Army during the Korean War under the 25th Division, I company, 14th Regiment. He proudly served his country as an Infantryman and during the war received the Combat Infantry Badge, the Korean Service, National Defense and United Nations Service Medals. During his dedication to honor and country, he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. In the years that followed, he worked for United Nuclear in the Weights & Measures Dept. But it was after returning home from service, his father, introduced him to a wonderful woman, Marjorie, working in a bakery next door to the Rapuano family Dry Cleaners (John's Cleaners). Together, with his wife, they opened Country Cleaners of Northford. As proud owners of Country Cleaners for over 30 years, it had become a well-known staple of Northford/North Branford, with many local high school young adults having their first job working for the establishment. Steve found great joy in providing the young coworkers with life-long advice that I'm sure they take with them to this day. His infectious personality and love of storytelling was enjoyed by all customers, and all that knew him. His family wishes to extend our thanks to the Nurses at Mid-State Medical Center that took such wonderful care of Stephen in his final days, the compassionate Home Health Aides and healthcare workers at Always Best Care and Atrinity Home Health. A special thank you to all the health care providers at the Veteran's Administration, West Haven VA Medical Center and the special friend of the family and care giver, Debbie (Butler) LeClerc of Wallingford. He will be missed by more people than we can possibly account for. "Mother Jewelene Ivory was born October 12,1932 and after a brief illness, transitioned to eternal rest on November 22, 2023. She was born in Dumas, Arkansas to Richard Teague and Lula McMullen Teague. Affectionately called Baby Jewel by her family, she was reared by her grandfather Johnny McMullen, her mother having passed when she was 3 years old. Her stepmother was the late Mother Cordelia Teague. She met and married Johnny Ivory in Aliceville, Alabama and they then relocated to Chicago, Illinois. In Chicago she was the essence of a true mother and homemaker, raising and nurturing their six children and being a driving force in their lives. Not to mention being an excellent cook and woman of hospitality, just ask anyone who ever dined at her table. In Chicago, she also accomplished her education goal by receiving her GED not having completed her education in the south because of having to work harvesting crops. After her children were older, for a time she worked at the Michael Reese Hospital. Living in Chicago she was first a member of Robert's Temple COGIC pastored by the late Bishop Isaiah Robert. Then Faith Temple COGIC pastored by the late Bishop H. W. Goldsberry. ` After relocating to New Haven, CT she has been a long-time member of the Macedonia COGIC, pastored by the Bishop Emeritus H. D. Bordeaux and now Pastor Fred Gee, Jr. and has served as a Doorkeeper in the Lord's House for many years. Serving with a heart of love and gratitude to the Lord. In New Haven, she was employed at and retired from Marlin Firearms after over 20 years as a machinist. While living at the Tower One Senior Apartments she sung in the Gospel Choir and attended Bible Study there also. She loved fellowshipping with family and friends. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren were the love of her life. She is survived by her six children, Ruby Lewis (Dwight), Johnny Ivory Jr. (Vivian), Sharlene Washington (Victor), Jerry Ivory (Joanne), Gloria Moore (David) and Linda Ivory. 17 grandchildren (1 deceased), 26 great-grandchildren(1 deceased) and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is the sister of the late Johnny Richard Teague, sister Darlene Ross and brother Nate Teague (Marcey). Two nephews Johnny Teague (Robin) and Richard Teague (aka Ricky) and niece Lisa Teague. Also, a host of relatives, friends, and church family. Mother Ivory was unique and special in her own right, speaking the truth in love, nurturing children, bold, unafraid, and faithful. She was a survivor having survived breast cancer for over 20 years. A lover of God, committed to her walk of holiness, she had a heart of purity before the Lord. She declared that God had been good to her, and she gave Him all the Praise, Honor and Glory. As we celebrate the life of Kenroy McBean we will focus on some of the fond memories, that will live on in our hearts forever. As a young man he was always well dressed and groomed. He wore his uniform with pride when he joined Cable and Wireless soon to become JAMINTEL. (Jamaica International Telecommunications Ltd) He was employed there for over thirty years until his retirement. He was ambitious and tried to do good whenever an opportunity arose. He was respected for his pleasant personality and willingness to complete whatever task was at hand. As a friend he was genuine. He tried to help whenever someone needed his assistance. He was trustworthy and those of us who had the pleasure of knowing him can attest to the fact that he was dependable and willing. After retiring from JAMNINTEL he migrated to the USA in 2002. He continued to care for his children and grandchildren and was available to help anyone in need. He was always concerned about the wellbeing of his family and loved each one dearly. Over the years he developed a close relationship with his maker and was an avid member of his church He sent Prayers and inspirational quotes to friends and family daily via WhatsApp. He would always say "giving thanks" when asked how he was doing. He was a very devoted father to all his children and provided for them to the best of his ability. He encouraged them to be honest and hardworking. He was very proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He was attentive to the children of his friends and coworkers as well. He will be remembered for his kindness above and beyond. He was admired as an exceptional father and grandfather. In a society where a lot of fathers take the "back seat" and mothers carry the weight of the responsibilities, He played his role as the Patriarch "to the tee".
