Mei Wu
Age - 63
October 18, 2023
Mei unexpectedly, but peacefully passed away in her sleep on October 13, 2023 at the age of 63. Mei was born on June 9, 1960 in Hong Kong. Mei and her family immigrated to New York in 1973. Before calling New Jersey home, Mei lived in Johnstown, Pennsylvania where she owned the Hunan Inn, Evergreen Place and Peking Palace restaurants. Mei moved to Iselin in 1995. Mei stepped away from the restaurant business and pursued a sales career at Keydata International. She remained a loyal employee until the business closed in 2016. Mei also worked at Woodbridge ShopRite for 18 years and was a fixture on the Front End. In February of 2016 Mei suffered a massive stroke that robbed her of her ability to speak and walk. Through hard work and determination Mei regained the ability to walk with assistance. Although Mei's speech never fully returned, she would always find ways to express her love and gratitude for others, whether it be through her gentle touch or sharing her food with you. Mei remained at her home in Iselin until March of 2022, at which time she moved to The Gardens at Monroe where you could always count on being greeted by her on the Palmer Wing. Mei's favorite thing in the world was people and the time she was able to spend with them. Mei is predeceased by her beloved father and mother, Yuk Sze Wu and Yuk Kam Chan. Mei is survived by and will be forever missed by her granddaughters, Everly and Hayden Kelly; daughter, Elissa and son-in-law, Luke Kelly of Avenel, son, Chief Petty Officer, Eric Chan, United States Navy, his fiance, Jade Yu, of San Diego, CA, and their son due in February; her loving siblings, sister Lai Kuen (Liza) and her husband, Pak Chan, of Metuchen, brother, Kwok Fong Wu, of Brooklyn, Mei Yee and her husband, Teddy Louie, of Manhattan, sister, Eva Wu and her husband, Ming Cheung, of Long Island.
