Glenn Douglas Hollifield, Sr. 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 5, 2023. Glenn was born on March 29, 1937 in Upper Hominy near Candler, North Carolina to C. L. and Ova G. Hollifield. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of over 64 years, Loretta Jean Bare Hollifield. He is survived by his son Glenn D. Hollifield, Jr. (Gloria); son, Darrell Hollifield (Jan); daughter, Beverly Letchworth (Glenn); grandchildren, Matt (Amy), Robbie, Bryan, Scott (Kristen), Stephanie, Mary, Eric (Jessica), Greg (Renee'), Jennifer (John), and 12 great- grandchildren; brother, Rev. Charles Hollifield (Mary); his sisters-in-law Christine Hensley (Herman), Naomi Nations (Jr. ), Phyllys Wozniak (Wayne); his brothers-in-law, Jim Bare (Mag), Brad Bare (Betty), Rev Harold Bare (Laila); and many nieces and nephews. Glenn was well loved by those who knew him. He was a 1955 graduate of Hampton High School and was a member of Parkview Church of God where he attended for over eighty years. He was a member of the IBEW for local 1340 for over 65 years. Hampton High School band parent for nine years from 1973-1982. He was always kind and was lovingly known as the family jokester. There will be a visitation of family and friends on Monday, December 11, 6-7:30 p. m. at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 210 Harpersville Road in Newport News. The Celebration of Life service will be on Tuesday, December 12th at 1 p. m. at Parkview Church of God, 1116 Briarfield Road in Newport News, VA. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2539 N. Armistead Avenue in Hampton, VA. The service will be officiated by, Rev. Terry D. Swiney. Arrangements by W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Norman Katzenberg, 90, born in Bronx, NY, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2023. He was born to Russian immigrants and was a first generation American. Norman moved to Newport News as a child and was a graduate of Newport News High School. He received his degree from RPI, now VCU, where he played on the basketball team. He served in the U. S. Army post Korean War. Norman started his professional career in real estate but soon established his own construction company, Katzenberg Homes, building fine custom homes. Norman excelled in many sports. He played countless hours of tennis at the Hilton Tennis Club and could be found biking miles upon miles around the Peninsula well into his 70's. His true love was skiing. He spent 25 years as a ski patroller at The Homestead and was founder and president of the 1st Newport News Ski Club. He was extremely driven both in his work and sports. He was an exemplary member of the Newport News community and will be remembered as a kind and humble man with a very witty sense of humor. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Jack & Esther Katzenberg and his sister, Arlene Schleifer. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of 49 years; his son, Jonathan of California; his daughter, Sami (Alex Whiteman) of Denver, and nieces, Jackie Kling and Nancy Karten. A Graveside Service will be held at 12:00 p. m. on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Rosenbaum Cemetery, 1817 Kecoughtan Rd, Hampton, VA by Rabbi David Eligberg. Barbara "Bobbee" Blake Higgs passed on into eternal life on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, after a 12-year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. She is at peace now with her Lord and Savior. Bobbee, as she was known to family and friends, was born in Worcester, MA. Bobbee attended school in Worcester, MA, and graduated from Pace University with a B. S. degree in Industrial Psychology and Personnel Management. She worked for American Telephone and Telegraph for 11 years as an Overseas Operator; following this, she held the position of Human Resource Officer and Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies for 25 years before her retirement in 1985. She was musically inclined and enjoyed singing and traveling with groups and church choirs. Her greatest joy was winning at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, NY, during Amateur Night. She accepted Christ early on, and her home church was John Street Baptist Church, Worcester, MA. In 1985, she met and married Bishop Joseph S. Higgs in Nyack, NY, and, in 1988, she relocated to Newport News, VA, and became affiliated with Mr. Gilead Baptist Church and later transferred her membership to First Baptist Church Denbigh. The character of her life can be summed up in a few words: she was sincere, loyal, industrious, humorous, self-pacifying, and most of all, a child of the king. She was preceded in death by her first husband, O. R. Wright; her husband, Bishop Joseph S. Higgs; her son, Marine Lance Corporal Noel A. Wright; and her brother, John Hazard. Bobbee is survived by her devoted Stepdaughter, Gail Brown (Larry Steptoe) from Newport News, VA; sons, Apostle Paul Higgs (ex-daughter-in-law Tammy Higgs) from Newport News, VA, and Paterson, NJ, and Jeffrey Higgs (Cindy) from Wilmington, MA; seven step-grandchildren, Jason Crosby (Venita), Jasmine Nelson (Kiwanna), Michael Higgs, Samantha Higgs, Amanda Higgs, Jordan Higgs, and Morgan Higgs; nine step-great-grandchildren, Noella Merrell, Jayla Crosby, Taylor Crosby, Joseph Crosby, Austin Crosby, A'mel Higgs, DJ Porter, Mikaela Porter and AJ Floyd; niece, Stacey Hazard-LaNear; nephew, Jon Hazard; along with many other step-nieces and step-nephews; and a host of other loving family and friends. A visitation will occur on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Peninsula Funeral Home from 2:00 - 4:00 p. m. , followed by a Celebration of Life on Monday, December 11, 2023, at 11:00 a. m. Burial will occur on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.
