Annie Marie (Carr) Martin was born on January 14, 1934, to the late George and Laura Hall Carr in Water Valley, MS Annie confessed her hope and faith and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age She received her education at the Springdale School She fellowshipped and united with Springdale Methodist Church in Water Valley, MS She later united with North Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church of Taylor, MS, where she was a faithful and humble servant for many, many years During her tenure, she served as a member of the Mission, the Choir, the Mother's Board and was a Deaconess until her health decline Annie was united in holy matrimony to the late Joe Essex Martin in Taylor, MS, and began her working career as a cafeteria worker and manager She faithfully served at the Taylor, Weems Elementary School and at Lafayette Elementary School, until she retired Annie loved children and was a foster grandparent with North Mississippi Regional Medical Center A TIME TO LOVE: Annie was a quiet, soft spoken, humble and loving servant with a heart of gold She loved everyone She expressed her love by housing many individuals during the Civil Rights Movement Everyone knew that her house was the place where everyone was welcome to visit, eat and even take up residence if the need arose She even had regular Saturday Morning visitors that would come each Saturday and watch Jerry Lawler wrestle On Sunday's, she would invite the Pastor and his family for Sunday dinner Carryout plates filled with her delicious cooking were always available Here home was home to many She and her husband, Joe freely gave of their time, love and home so that others would have food, joy and peace A TIME TO DIE: Annie was resting quietly at Oxford Health and Rehab on September 28, 2023, when she heard the voice of Jesus calling her from labor to life eternity She peacefully transitioned from earth to glory where she was promised that there will be neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain A TIME TO MOURN: Annie's precious memories will linger and ever flood the souls of her sons, Maurice (Audrey) Martin, Oxford, MS and Thomas (Linda) Martin, San Antonio, TX; two daughters, Dr Joyce Martin and Beverly Brown, both of Oxford, MS; three brothers, Raymond (Katie) Carr, Water Valley, MS; Johnny (Clara) Carr and Jonas (Dannish) Carr, Chicago, IL; sister-in-law, Gladys Carr, Union City, TN; special granddaughter and caregiver, Paris Stewart, Fredericksburg, VA; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren She is further survived by a loving host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Essex Martin, her parents, George (Laura) Carr; sons, Bruce Martin and Hervie Martin; daughter, Valerie Martin Stewart; sisters Maggie Carr Turner and Ruby Lee (Broadis) Toles and brother, Stacy Carr Please remember the Martin/Carr family in your prayers

Martha Camille Carothers, daughter of the late Webster and Carrie (Redmond) Gater, was born May 30, 1940, in Lafayette County, Mississippi. Martha accepted Christ and was a member of Cypress Grove M. B. Church in Oxford, Mississippi. Martha received her early childhood education at Cypress Grove School, which is now the Cypress Grove M. B. Church in Oxford. Martha was united in matrimony to William Carothers and was a wife, a homemaker, and the mother of seven children. Her husband, William, preceded her in death. Martha was a hard worker. She was employed at Motts until an arm injury rendered her unable to work, so she retired. Martha enjoyed cooking, gardening, watching old westerns, listening to music, and being social with friend. But by far, her favorite past time was fishing. She was known to many as "The Fishing Lady. " You could find her most days on the fish bank with her friends, the late Lorine Campbell and the late Deola Johnson. On Saturday, November 25, 2023, while in her home, and with her loving daughter, Candi and son, Patrick by her side, Martha left this earthly life and went to be with the Lord entering into eternal rest. She will be lovingly missed by her children: Joanne Coffey of Coffeeville MS, Candi (Lee) Hutchins, Paul Carothers, and Patrick Carothers, all of Water Valley MS; four grandchildren whom she raised: Kim Carothers of Coffeeville MS, Milaila Dowsing of Abbeville MS, Rodchadro (Desiree) Carothers of Oxford MS and Brittney Dowsing of Shreveport LA; her siblings: Mary Carothers of Stone Lake IA, Lottie Baker of St. Louis MO, Moses Gater, Jethero (Lenora) Gater and Jerrry Gater all of Sikeston MO; 20 grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. And she also leaves her caretaker: Emma Lou Benson, who will miss her deeply. Along with her parents and her husband, Martha was preceded in death by four brothers: John Robert Gater, B. B. Lynne Overby Cavanaugh Bailey, 78, of Oxford, MS, died on November 23. She was predeceased by her parents, Norris Overby and Maureen Turner Overby Hale, her husband, Bill Bailey and her brothers, James (Buddy) Overby and Layne Overby. She is survived by her son, Jay Cavanaugh, his wife, Dianna, three granddaughters, Savannah, Cassidy and Delaney Cavanaugh, her brothers, Sam Hobson and Wayne Overby and a host of nieces and nephews. Lynne attended the University of Mississippi, where she was named an Ole Miss "Cutie". After her time at Ole Miss, she was a Flight Attendant for United Airlines, and a Sales Manager for Clairol. She later combined her sales skills with her own entrepreneurial spirit to open her own businesses: Merle Norman Cosmetic Stores in Hammond, LA, and MAURLO Cosmetics - its name, a clever nod to her mother and best friend, Maureen, and her own initials, L. O. Lynne and her husband Bill loved to travel. It was their love of travel that spurred them to open their most recent venture, Premier Travel, in Gulfport, MS. A lover of Mississippi history, Lynne was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Confederacy. She researched her ancestry before the convenience of the internet, traveling to libraries and county courthouses across the South to find information needed to trace her family’s genealogy. Lynne was a woman of great faith. She was raised in the Brandon Methodist Church, and a member of a local congregation wherever she lived - even serving as a missionary in Mexico. She possessed a resurrection faith and is now enjoying the rest and peace she has long awaited. She will be missed for her keen wit, impeccable style and deep and abiding love for her family. Amy Dew Dornbusch, 45, died Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - North Mississippi. The funeral will be Monday, November 27, 2023, at 1:00 P. M. at Pinelake Church of Oxford with Rev. Jody Schmelzer officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 26, 2023, from 4:00 P. M. until 6:00 P. M. in West Hall of Waller Funeral Home. Burial will follow the funeral service in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Amy was born on March 23, 1978, in Brownsville, TN to Mike and Wanda Dew. She attended Haywood High School, where her natural athleticism helped her to excel in sports, as a member of the soccer team and captain of the cheer squad. After graduating, Amy's attended Lambuth University in Jackson, TN on a soccer scholarship. She later transferred to The University of Mississippi, where she majored in Journalism and worked as a trainer for Ole Miss Football. She was driven by her impressive work ethic, seamlessly balancing her various jobs alongside her studies and social life. Going out of her way to befriend everyone, Amy had a personality that instantly made others feel comfortable and at ease. She was the friend who looked out for others and made sure no one was ever left out. After graduating from Ole Miss with her Bachelor's Degree, Amy took a pharmaceutical job in Wisconsin, but was eager to return to the South. It was in Jackson, MS in 2005, that she met Kette, falling quicky in love, and starting a family together. In 2007 they married, and Amy found her true purpose in life as a wife and mother. Upon having her first baby, her life changed immediately. With ease, she walked away from the career she once loved, knowing that she was meant to give herself fully to her children. The same motivation and work ethic that had helped her advance through college and her career made Amy the fiercest and most loving mother. Amy became active in every aspect of her children's lives, devoting every ounce of energy she had to keeping them happy and fulfilled. The family enjoyed many trips spent on the beach in Pensacola and Sandestin, or weekends away in New Orleans. Although six children may sound daunting to some, she made sure to make each child feel uniquely loved and cared for. She made it her mission to allow them to experience life to the fullest, making sure that each child made it to every sporting event, birthday party, or extra-curricular activity. She loved nothing more than when her home was full of her kids and their friends, making their house the gathering spot for the whole neighborhood. So many of Amy's happiest days were spent having picnics in the park, playing games, or doing arts and crafts in the kitchen. It was most important to her that she create core memories and moments with her family, never taking a second with them for granted. Amy is preceded in death by her grandfathers, Thomas Jackson and Sylvanus Dew and her grandmothers, Mervie Dew and Macie Allen. Kelvin Terrell Floyd was born October 20, 1965 to the late David Floyd and Eunice Ann Skipper Floyd in Alabama. He departed this life Sunday November 12, 2023. Kelvin received Christ and was baptized at an early age. Kelvin graduated from Dothan High School in 1983. He was a ROTC Cadet for four years during high school. His enjoyment activities included participating in culinary arts, music, swimming, and serving the Lord. Kelvin was an avid Rock avid Roll enthusiast. He enlisted in the United States Army after High School. The Lord saw fit that he couldn't serve his country, but his heart was in the right place to do so. God gave him rest in this world of service. Kelvin was a very smart, intelligent and astute student while attending high school and excelled in all of his studies graduating with a 4. 0 GPA His interests were deep into the Science, Mathematics, and Astrology. He followed the teachings of Plato, and Confucius. Kelvin was known by his siblings as "Chief" and made sure all of his younger siblings went by their Indian names. Oftentimes, being a mentor, disciplinarian, and introducing his siblings to all Academic work and Music Theory as he knew. Kelvin had a knack for anticipating events in the world. Melody Marie James (Banana) was born to the Late Mr. Otis James Jr and the Late Helen Marie Johnson on November 13, 1965, in St. Petersburg, Florida. Melody James was a very free spirit and did not meet a stranger. She attend school in the Enterprise City School Systems. Early in life she become a member of Southside Church of Christ and later in life joined Adams Street Church of Christ. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Troy C. Jones, Sr. She proceed in death by her sister Dorinda James, brother Wayne James, her niece Tempestt James, her grandparents, and host of relatives that she loved dearly. Sheryll Harrell

Age - 76

Sheryll Ann Capin Harrell, 76, passed away in the comfort of her home in Oxford, Mississippi, on November 18, 2023. She was surrounded by the love of her family as she traveled those last steps of her path here on earth, toward her ultimate home in heaven. Sheryll was born in Princeton, Indiana on September 14, 1947, to the late Richard (Dick) Fay Capin and Mary "Jeanne" Seitz Capin. While her parents grew in their dedication to building their family, they also found themselves growing in their dedication to following the will of Christ within their lives. As Dick and Jeanne put their trust in following God's way for them, they were led to many different places over the years. The family even spent time serving as missionaries overseas. So, as Sheryll grew up, she found herself living in locations from the small town of Mt Carmel, Illinois to Abilene, Texas and even reaching as far as Seoul, Korea. As she wrapped up her high school years, Sheryll spent time living in likely her most favorite location of all, Hollywood, California. Upon graduating from high school, her family moved back to the Midwest, to Indiana, where she went on to attend Anderson University. While there, she met her first love, David Matas. They went on to get married and had four children together; Gregory, Jennifer, Richard, and Stephanie. She also studied at Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis, earning her degree in accounting. Sheryll went on to successfully start and grow her own accounting and business firm in Greenwood, Indiana. Her clients and career meant the world to her. Her work, and the relationships formed through it, brought great joy to her life. As the years went by, Sheryll met Donald "Bud" Harrell of Ripley, TN. They met through mutual friends. One day, he went to see her at her office, as it just so happened, he needed his taxes done. Not surprisingly, he thought she was the woman for the job. Eventually, they had their first date. It didn't take long for the love between them to grow, and they decided to get married and build a life together. Sheryll gained two more children in Bud's son and daughter from his first marriage, Ronney "Bubba" Harrell and Donna Harrell. After several years, she and Bud decided to head south to live. In 1998, Sheryll began the process of starting her second business in Collierville, TN. Sheryll was a woman of many qualities. She enjoyed playing piano, singing, shopping, and fine dining. She also had a style all her own, that most could only hope to pull off with such effortless grace and class. She loved her children fiercely, and she worked incredibly hard to give them all she could in life. Nothing meant more to her than to know they were ok, that they would be ok, and that they knew how much she loved them. Family was everything to her. Her biggest passion in life was people, and they always gravitated towards her. Sheryll was a bright light that touched so many lives. She was smart, kind, funny, quick witted, giving, graceful, unbelievably strong, and she loved with a depth that was immeasurable. Sheryll is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband and father of her children, David Matas, her daughter Jennifer Matas, and her husband Donald Harrell. She leaves behind five children, Gregory Matas (Krista Matas), Richard Matas (Elizabeth Matas), Stephanie Matas Murphree (Justin Murphree), Ronney Harrell (Kelly Harrell), and Donna Harrell, along with two brothers Gregg Capin and Mark Capin, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Sheryll left a mark on not only the lives of her family and friends, but on the lives of so many individuals that she encountered during her time here. Jeffery Lynn Booker, son of the late Wade Lester Booker and Bernice Booker, was born in Oxford, Mississippi on February 25, 1957. He was their fifth child. Jeff grew up in Oxford and graduated from Oxford High School in 1975. From there, he attended Northwest Mississippi Junior College for two years. Upon completion of Northwest, Jeff transitioned into the work force where he gained employment at Whirlpool Corp as a forklift driver. He was employed with Whirlpool for 30 plus years. Jeff enjoyed fishing and fixing lawn mowers and being with his friends. On Saturday, November 18, 2023, Jeff went home to be with the Lord. Calvin Denzell White, was born July 2, 2002, in Oxford MS, to Calvin and Sandra White. Calvin was affectionally known as "Lil Calvin" or Bruh to close family members and friends. Calvin was the youngest of three children. Calvin accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Mt. Gillion M. B. Church. He attended New Enon M. B. Church and joined No Souls Left Behind Ministries under the leadership of Apostle Mark and Prophetess Yaketta Williams. Calvin attended South Panola School and was blessed with an anointing and passion for music. He loved to rap, sing, play drums as well as the guitar. Calvin departed this life on Friday, November 10, 2023. Gary B. Douglas, age 72, a devoted family man and respected professional, completed his earthly journey and ascended to heaven to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior on November 18, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and community service that will forever be cherished by those who knew him. Born on December 1, 1950, in Memphis, TN, Gary was raised with the values of love and hard work that shaped his character throughout his life. A proud alumnus of Messick High School, he furthered his education at Memphis State, earning a degree in accounting and a JD from Memphis State Law School. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a successful career, culminating in his role as President of Boyle Trust and Investment, where he recently celebrated 26 years of service with Boyle. Gary's life was a testament to his diverse passions and interests. A devout member of Grace Evangelical Church, his commitment to faith was unwavering. He was also an avid collector, finding joy in amassing trains, stamps, coins, books, and airplane model kits. His profound interest in history, particularly the Civil War and World War II, was evident through his membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans and Bankhead's Battery, where he actively participated in historical reenactments. Beyond his professional and personal pursuits, Gary was deeply committed to community service, serving on the Salvation Army Board and cherishing the tradition of ringing the Salvation Army bell during Christmas. Family was the cornerstone of Gary's life. His love and pride for his daughters, Meredith and Elizabeth, were evident in all he did. A dedicated band parent, he relished every game and concert, with band trips to Disney among his most cherished memories. He took his job of being in charge of the concession stand seriously. Opening up three hours before each game to ensure that everything was ready to go at game time. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Jan Huston Douglas; daughters Meredith and Elizabeth; brother Maurice Douglas and wife Frances; sister Clarice Kiser and husband Marty; mother-in-law Norma Huston; sisters-in-law Cyndy Taylor, Carrie Likley, husband Steve, and Julie Graham, husband Mark; as well as his beloved nieces, nephews; best friend Robert Waller, who was like a brother; and his cherished walking fur-buddies Riley, Rosie, and Maggie. He was predeceased in death by his parents Maurice and Hazel Smith Douglas, brother Michael Douglas, niece Kimberly Kiser, and father-in-law Dr. Richard Huston. The viewing will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Waller Funeral Home in Oxford, Mississippi, with the procession departing at 2:15 to Harmontown Baptist Cemetery in Harmontown, Mississippi. The burial service will commence at 3:00 pm to celebrate Gary's life. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at Grace Evangelical Church in Germantown, TN with visitation beginning at 2:00 pm and the memorial service at 3:00 pm. Following the service, everyone is invited to the Douglas' home to continue Gary's Celebration of Life. Donnie was born on June 29, 1954, in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Alice Hardy and Donald Hardy, Sr. He was a devoted son, cherishing the close and loving relationship he shared with his parents and late sister, Robbie Lynn Hardy. Donnie made a career for himself in Jacksonville, Florida in land surveying. He was known for his love for NASCAR and Stock Car Racing. After retiring and moving to Southaven Mississippi, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and attending stock car races with them.
