Annie Marie (Carr) Martin was born on January 14, 1934, to the late George and Laura Hall Carr in Water Valley, MS Annie confessed her hope and faith and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age She received her education at the Springdale School She fellowshipped and united with Springdale Methodist Church in Water Valley, MS She later united with North Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church of Taylor, MS, where she was a faithful and humble servant for many, many years During her tenure, she served as a member of the Mission, the Choir, the Mother's Board and was a Deaconess until her health decline Annie was united in holy matrimony to the late Joe Essex Martin in Taylor, MS, and began her working career as a cafeteria worker and manager She faithfully served at the Taylor, Weems Elementary School and at Lafayette Elementary School, until she retired Annie loved children and was a foster grandparent with North Mississippi Regional Medical Center A TIME TO LOVE: Annie was a quiet, soft spoken, humble and loving servant with a heart of gold She loved everyone She expressed her love by housing many individuals during the Civil Rights Movement Everyone knew that her house was the place where everyone was welcome to visit, eat and even take up residence if the need arose She even had regular Saturday Morning visitors that would come each Saturday and watch Jerry Lawler wrestle On Sunday's, she would invite the Pastor and his family for Sunday dinner Carryout plates filled with her delicious cooking were always available Here home was home to many She and her husband, Joe freely gave of their time, love and home so that others would have food, joy and peace A TIME TO DIE: Annie was resting quietly at Oxford Health and Rehab on September 28, 2023, when she heard the voice of Jesus calling her from labor to life eternity She peacefully transitioned from earth to glory where she was promised that there will be neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain A TIME TO MOURN: Annie's precious memories will linger and ever flood the souls of her sons, Maurice (Audrey) Martin, Oxford, MS and Thomas (Linda) Martin, San Antonio, TX; two daughters, Dr Joyce Martin and Beverly Brown, both of Oxford, MS; three brothers, Raymond (Katie) Carr, Water Valley, MS; Johnny (Clara) Carr and Jonas (Dannish) Carr, Chicago, IL; sister-in-law, Gladys Carr, Union City, TN; special granddaughter and caregiver, Paris Stewart, Fredericksburg, VA; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren She is further survived by a loving host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Essex Martin, her parents, George (Laura) Carr; sons, Bruce Martin and Hervie Martin; daughter, Valerie Martin Stewart; sisters Maggie Carr Turner and Ruby Lee (Broadis) Toles and brother, Stacy Carr Please remember the Martin/Carr family in your prayers
