December 9, 2023
Rose Sarah Pilditch,
Saginaw, Michigan.
Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother passed away Friday, December 8, 2023 at Edgewood Assisted Living. Age 102 years. Daughter of the late Peter "Pietro" and Mary "Massimina" (Staffa) Furlo, Rose was born March 29, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Saginaw from about the age of 8 years old. She was married to David Pilditch, her loving husband of 52 years, on May 19, 1948 and settled in Bay City, where they raised their family. Rosie was a participant of the National Youth Association, while attending SS. Peter and Paul High School. That program was part the New Deal, which provided work and education for Americans aged 16 - 25. She worked as a typist and also for The Sunshine Baking Company, giving half of her wages to her parents, to help the family. Rosie enjoyed engaging with people and, in her youth, often attended nights out with friends at the Green Mill Dance Hall. She loved cooking, especially Italian food. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and card games. Rosie volunteered at the Boy's Club of Bay City. When her children were older, she worked at the O Sole Mio Restaurant, Le Chateau and Winklemann's Department Store. During their retirement years, Rose and Dave spent their summers at their cabin at Skidway Lake and their winters in Clearwater, Florida. Rose joined a local talent group in her 70's and 80's, along with her sister, Angie and brother-in-law, Don. They performed shows and skits, singing and dancing for local mobile home parks. This brought her a great deal of enjoyment. Although she did not have the most talent in the room, she did have an abundant personality.
Surviving to cherish her memory are two daughters and one son, Diana Kienlen, Jim and Mary Ann Pilditch, Ruth Nair; four grandchildren, Michael and Veronica Kienlen, Jeff Pilditch, Andrea Nair; four great-grandchildren, Mike Kienlen, Lexi Pilditch, Kerala and Siena Agarwal; many beloved nieces and nephews, especially the Perry siblings. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, David Pilditch; her parents, Peter and Mary Furlo; her siblings, Margaret Bragg, Angie Furlo Wickham, Londy Furlo, Tony Furlo, Helen Mae Furlo Perry, Marie Gerasi, Carmella Ciserano and James Adolfino.
At age 100, Rose was featured in the Edgewood Assisted Newsletter. She was asked what about her secret for a long life and she replied,"I didn't smoke, was not afraid to work hard, laughter, a good sense of humor, eat good food, keep your mind and body active and thank God for the blessings you have.
Rosie's family would also like to thank the staff at Edgewood Assisted Living for all of their amazing care during the last years of her life - especially Jerry, Nancy, Anastasia and Cardinal Hospice, especially Amanda and Keri. She loved them and they also loved her. They called her "Grandma" and many of them stopped by to pay their respects to her as she was facing the last days of her life.
