OBITUARY
Robert Antione Saul was born on September 17, 1955 in Harlem, New York to loving parents,
Robert and Joyce Saul. Robert was the Matriarch of the Saul family.
After successfully completing his GED, Robert embarked on a fulfilling academic path, leading
him to obtain a Bachelor Degree in Social Work at the College of New Rochelle in 1999. Due to
Robert's insatiable thirst for knowledge and personal growth, he then went on to graduate school
and obtained a Master's Degree at Yeshiva University Wurzweiler School of Social Work in
2002. Once again, Robert demonstrated an unwavering commitment to academic excellence and
his ability to overcome challenges with resilience and determination.
Outside of his academic pursuits, Robert had a deep love for fishing and enjoyed fishing with his
childhood friends/brothers Brian Saunders and Robert Williams. Spending time near the water
and casting his line brought him peace and joy. He often spoke fondly of his fishing adventures
and took solace in the tranquility of nature. His wife Mary called them "The 3 Musketeers".
When Rob returned from his fishing trips, Mary would be waiting with open arms to assist him
in packing the fish to share with family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and church members.
Robert met Mary at the College of New Rochelle in 1997, and they wed and became a blended
family of eight in 1998. Robert loved his wife Mary and Mary loved her husband Robert, as she
called him "Rob". Rob and Mary lived in the Bronx together for eight years, where they raised
their children and held family gatherings. Rob and Mary then relocated to Middletown in 2004
where they purchased their first family home. They continued to host gatherings at their new
home with family, friends and others. Truly, it was always a great time. Robert gave his life to
Christ in 2006, despite the many life challenges he experienced in his past. Rob loved God and
never went to sleep without praying with his wife every night. Robert attended New Day
Tabernacle, where he controlled the sound system. He then became a member at St. John AME
Zion, where he also worked his passion for the sound system. Working the sound system was
very important to Robert because he always wanted to make sure the Pastor's word reached the
people.
Robert began his 20 year Social Work career path in 2001 as a Clinical Coordinator at Albert
Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York , Social Worker at Catskill Regional Medical
Center in Harris, New York, Social Worker at Bon Secours Hospital in Port Jervis, New York
for and Licensed Social Worker for the Community Residential Care Program at the Hudson
Valley Department of Veterans Affairs in Wappingers Falls. Robert truly enjoyed working as a
Social Worker at Veterans Affairs and assisting the Veterans in obtaining all support available to
them as a result of their service in fighting for our country. In 2020 Robert's life took an
unexpected turn when he received the diagnosis of stage four cancer. In spite of his diagnosis,
with unwavering determination and an unyielding commitment to his career, Robert continued to push forward regardless of the challenges he faced. Robert retired in 2021 from Hudson Valley
Department of Veterans Affairs. Following retirement, Robert and Mary relocated to Myrtle
Beach, South Carolina, where they savored the warm weather, beach, bike rides, restaurants,
family visits and vacations. As new residents of Myrtle Beach, Robert and Mary found their new
church home, Sandygrove Missionary Baptist Church where they became members.
Robert was a beloved member of his family, and his passing leaves a void in their hearts. He was
preceded in death by his parents Joyce and Robert Saul, brother Dawayne "Jeffrey" Saul,
stepsons Michael Cotten and Dayshawn Cotten. He leaves to cherish in his memories his wife

and the profound impact he had on the lives of those around him. Robert's journey shall remind
us that every obstacle we encounter is an opportunity for personal growth and that no challenge
is insurmountable with the right support, inner strength, unyielding determination and having a
relationship with God in spirit and in truth. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT The family of Robert Antione Saul wishes to thank all of you for your prayers, messages of
