RALEIGH – Jack Noble Matthews, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 27, 2024. A native of Nash County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late William Edd Matthews and Miley Matthews. In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by his sister, Jane Bass; and brother, David Earl Matthews, all of whom Jack loved dearly.Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother. On June 19, 1960, he married the love of his life and best friend, Serena Matthews, spending 63 memorable years together.Jack dedicated 36 years of his life to serving the public through his esteemed career at the North Carolina Department of Transportation, reaching the position of Assistant State Photogrammetric Engineer within the Division of Highways, signifying a significant milestone in his professional career before retiring in 1996.Beyond his professional endeavors, Jack exemplified unwavering devotion to Saint Andrews United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where he selflessly contributed in various leadership capacities. Among his most treasured roles were serving as MYF Youth Leader, lending his voice to the choir, sharing his passion for music, and coaching the women’s and men’s church softball teams.A man of many talents, Jack found solace in his woodworking shop where he generously shared his talent by crafting beautiful pieces for others, extending his creativity and skill beyond personal projects to bring joy and beauty into the lives of those around him. He relished the outdoors, and took great pride in tending to his yard. He also demonstrated meticulous care in maintaining his cars, ensuring they were always clean, waxed, and kept in pristine condition, a reflection of his attention to detail and pride in his possessions.Jack's passions extended to his unwavering love for the NC State Wolfpack and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was an avid fan, finding immense joy and camaraderie in cheering for his favorite teams. Extending his love of sports, he was a longtime Garner Pop Warner youth football coach, Garner Little League, and Babe Ruth League baseball coach.Known for his contagious positivity and zest for life, he approached each day with unwavering optimism, leaving a lasting and impactful mark on all who knew him. Above all, Jack held his family close. For him, family was a priority, source of joy, comfort, and a constant reminder of what truly mattered most.“Jack,” “Daddy,” “Granddaddy,” “Great Granddaddy’s” legacy of love, joy, and commitment will forever live on in our hearts, as a testament to the way he lived his life. Born January 23, 1949, in Johnston County to the late Willard and Lanie Ellis Pope, she was the widow of Rev. Russell Glenn Honeycutt who died in 2006 and she was preceded in death by her son, Joey Glenn Honeycutt and sister, Sue Pope Thomas. Joyce was a longtime member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church.Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 7:30 pm in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Pollock officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 7:30 pm, just before the service. Frances Campbell Lynch Lloyd, 95, of Buies Creek passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at UNC Rex Healthcare in Raleigh NC. Frances was born August 29, 1928, in Harnett County, NC to the late Archibald Edgar and Bessie Campbell Lynch. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl J. Lloyd; her son, James R. Lloyd (Jimmy); her sister, Bonnie Bess Lynch Royal; and brother, Arch E. Lynch. Frances is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to whom she was like a second mother. Frances was the granddaughter of Campbell University founder, Dr. James A. Campbell. She earned an Associate of Arts degree from Campbell Junior College in 1947. She received her B.S. in physical education from UNC Greensboro in 1949 and her M.A.T. from UNC Chapel Hill in 1966. Always a sports fan, Frances played on the Campbell basketball teams during high school and college. She was a loyal fan of her alma maters’ sports programs attending basketball games and many sporting events at Campbell. A 35-year member of the physical education faculty at Campbell, Frances started the varsity women's tennis program in 1972 and coached the team for 18 years. Frances was inducted into Campbell University Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. In addition, she earned a Certificate of Achievement from the North Carolina Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Health during Campbell's 1995 National Girls and Women In Sports Day ceremonies. A charter member of Memorial Baptist Church in Buies Creek, Frances provided hospitality to newcomers and members as an active member of the church. A master bridge player and knitter, she spent many hours with her two bridge clubs and knitted magnificent sweaters, skirts and accessories. Always active in the community, she enjoyed the Buies Creek Garden Club and Book Club. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 23 at Buies Creek Cemetery, 113 Judge Taylor Rd, Lillington, NC 27546 with Rev. Ed Beddingfield officiating. There will be a reception at Memorial Baptist Church following the service. Frank Elroy Rhinehart Jr. 72, of Raleigh, NC passed away at Duke Regional Hospital February 26, 2024.Frank was born in Charleston, WV in 1951 to Frank Rhinehart Sr. and Alice Rhinehart. Frank attended Bluefield High School before continuing his education at Bluefield State College, majoring in Engineering. After graduating, Frank proceded in his career as a field estimator and construction manager.Frank was preceded in death by his Father Frank Rhinehart Sr and Mother Alice Rhinehart and nephew Aaron Sigmon. He is survived by the love of his life for nearly 50 years, Diana Rhinehart, daughter Chrissy Claypool and husband Steve of Garner NC, daughter Aja Rhinehart and partner Nader Salib of Raleigh NC, brother David Rhinehart of Princeton WV, sister Kim Sigmon and husband Richard of Princeton WV: along with nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law Charlene Zeisig and husband Wolfgang of Bluefield VA and friends he played music with.Frank was a lover of music where he was a bassist of Transit Times band with others, including Dave Watkins, Dave Ruble, Bob Cole, Dick Erskine, Kenny Kirby, Sonny Godwin, Lynette Maxheimer, and Aundrea LaShea, for over 30 years. Frank also played music at many venues including Sam’s in Princeton WV, with friends Freddy and Linda Modad. Frank loved walking at the park with Diana, followed by going to lunch for a hotdog, his cat Suki, UFO documentaries, police chases on YouTube, and spending time with his family and vacationing at Pawley’s Island SC.A private service will be held on Saturday March 2nd, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner NC, and a celebration of life will be held at a future date.
