She was a devoted wife that absolutely loved her husband even through dementia. As a mother from the beginning to the morning of her last breath. Her love for her daughter was divine, unwavering and unconditional, filled with admiration. When Ian Wendell, her grandson, was born, his presence gave her new life and new energy. He was one of her most precious gift from God. Once in Georgia, as dementia progressed, she found care, love and support through her great great niece Blessing Alexandra whom she loved as a grandchild and two great grand puppies, Casey, who kept a watchful eye on her, and Roxie. Luther Glendale McBay

Jan 20, 1937 - Feb 18, 2024

location-icon

Conyers, GA

"Luther Glendale (Glenn) McBay, January 20, 1937 - February 18, 2024 Well done, good and faithful servant! Enter into the Joy of your Lord. Matthew 25:23 Peacefully, with his loving family, on Sunday, February 18, 2024, our beloved Husband, Pops, and Poppy, Glenn McBay, was received into Joy with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Great is thy Faithfulness! Glenn McBay was born in 1937 in Lucedale, Mississippi, as the youngest of 4 children. His father passed away just before Glenn was born, and Glenn was raised up right by his godly mother and 3 dear sisters. As a young child, Glenn made the decision to follow Jesus and believers' baptism. As the man of the house, Glenn spent most of each day in the outdoors hunting, trapping, and fishing. His mother worked at the University Bookstore and put Glenn through college at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he also played D1 Baseball. Glenn continued on to Graduate School at Auburn University, earning a Master of Science in Fisheries Management. Soon after starting his career with the State of Alabama Game and Fish Division, Glenn met LeRay Cobb, and it was love at first sight. He proposed after only 2 weeks! Together, Glenn and LeRay built a beautiful family with 4 sons (Mike, Rob, Mark, and Brad), as both continued work to support the family. Glenn's career path included the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Glenn was widely known for his expertise and success with the Striped Bass Program implemented throughout the Southeast United States. Glenn and LeRay raised their sons in Conyers and Brunswick, Georgia, and were members of First Baptist Church Conyers for over 30 years where Glenn also served as Deacon. Glenn's priorities were clear: He invested himself in loving his family and friends, the great outdoors, and serving the Lord. Glenn raised his boys in the woods, on the ball field, and in the church. He was Coach to his sons and many other young men, learning the game of life on and off the baseball and football fields. He helped build the American Legion fields near the cemetery where he rests. He taught, shared the excitement, and told the stories of all who learned to hunt and fish by his side. He fulfilled his dream of developing hundreds of acres for hunting and fishing to share his passion with his family and friends that will carry his legacy through generations to come. He was an exceptional role model, loved, and admired as a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, coach, mentor, and friend. Our family was so privileged to be the recipients of Glenn's genuine love and devotion, to learn from his Christian example as Spiritual Leader, and walk proudly as members of The McBay Family. We will be eternally changed by his life and legacy. The godly man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him. Proverbs 20:7 Glenn was predeceased by his mother and father, Luther Ray and Bertha Stringer McBay, sister, Iris Davenport, and grandson, Robert McBay Jr. He is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife of 62 years, LeRay Cobb McBay, their four sons families: Mike and Jena McBay (Haley and John Allmond: expecting great grandchild), Morgan and Andrew Couch (Brock, and Brogen), Rob and Carol McBay (Riley and Cole), Mark and Wendy McBay (Meredith, Austin, and Caroline), Brad and Ami McBay (Amanda and Kayla), and Glenn's precious sisters, Fredna Langston (Texas) and Amarylis Holland (Mississippi). The family encourages all who knew Glenn to join us for a special service, led by Glenn's close friend and Pastor, Dr. John Wyatt, to share memories, celebrate his life, and graduation to Heaven. Services will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11am at Scot Ward Green Meadow Chapel; interment will follow. Family will receive friends from 10 to 11am at the funeral home. The service will be livestreamed by ScotWard.com In lieu of flowers, the McBay Family asks that guests kindly consider a donation to Next Step Ministries (Christian based therapeutic day program for special needs adults and children), in honor of Glenn's heavenly reunion with his previously special needs grandson, Robert McBay Jr. No doubt already learning to fish if Heaven has ponds! https://nextstepministries-bloom.kindful.com/?campaign=1277897 Or by mail to: Next Step Ministries, 7709 Turner Rd, Woodstock, GA 30188 Most importantly, a request from Glenn . . . We request your intercessory prayers and expressions of love and friendship for LeRay as she carries on her life without her beloved partner. Condolences may be submitted on-line at www.scotward.com. Scot Ward Funeral Services, 699 American Legion Road, Conyers, GA 30012, 770-483-7216."
