Michael Schneider

Age - 67

November 3, 2023

Michael Andrew Schneider, 67, of Augusta, KS passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023 in Moundridge, KS after a battle with Alzheimer's that spanned more than a decade. Rosary will be held at 10:00 a. m. with Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 a. m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at St. James Catholic Church, Augusta, KS. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Augusta, KS. Michael was born in Wichita, KS on March 27, 1956, to the late Mary Jane (Heuvelman) and Frank Schneider. Michael was known for ability to triumph over adversity. At 19 months of age, Michael was diagnosed with the last identifiable case of paralytic polio in the area, although he never allowed that diagnosis to define him. Throughout his childhood, Michael spent his free time alongside his father, Frank at Schneider Brothers Grain and Feed (his home away from home) throwing bags of grain, climbing into grain bins, and helping out around the elevator. After graduating from Augusta High School, Michael worked multiple wheat harvest seasons, which started in North Dakota and ended in Texas. Michael eventually returned home to Augusta where he commenced a long streak of entrepreneurial ventures that included, among others, a gas station, an auto supply company, a tire service, and a custom hay cutting service. But Michael was most known for American Wrecker Service, the tow service company he founded which consisted of a fleet in excess of ten trucks that he operated at all-hours of the day for over eighteen years throughout the Wichita area. While Michael worked hard, he played just as hard. Michael was known for being the life of the party and a person who could always put a smile on your face. And he deeply enjoyed spending time in the country. Michael's legacy is also his numerous children and grandchildren. He is survived by: sons, Francis Schneider and wife Carly of Bel Aire, KS, Jonathan Schneider and wife Sarena of Augusta, KS, Clinton Schneider and wife Payzley of Augusta, KS; daughter, Annie Patterson and husband Wade of Leon, KS; son Patrick Schneider of Augusta, KS; and son Joseph Schneider of Norman, OK; grandchildren, Aiden, Kylie Jo, Alexa, Cameron, Maverick, Charleigh, Raelyn, and Colter; and sisters, Marcia Hime of Augusta, KS, Theresa Winter and husband Karl of Augusta, KS, and Marilyn Runyan of Augusta, KS; and surviving brother-in-law David Canfield. Michael is preceded in death by parents Mary Jane (Heuvelman) Schneider and Frank Schneider; sisters, Kathleen Ann Schneider, and Laurie Canfield; and infant brother, Joseph Schneider. Memorial donations to St. James Catholic Church, 1012 Belmont Ave. Augusta, KS 67010 or Pine Village, 86 22nd Ave. Moundridge, KS 67107.
