Anna Mae Curry, age 97, of Saint James, went peacefully home to her Lord and Savior on Friday morning, October 6, 2023, at Living Meadows at Luther in Madelia. Visitation will be on Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am, at First Presbyterian Church in St. James. Funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in St. James on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James. Lester LeRoy Reckow, age 90, of St. James, MN, died October 18, 2023, at Edgewood Assisted Living in Alexandria, MN. A visitation will be held from 4-7 p. m. , Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James Chapel in St. James, MN, and one hour prior to the service on Friday, October 27, 2023 at First Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a. m. , Friday, October 27, 2023 at First Lutheran Church in St. James, MN. Private burial will take place at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Hector, MN at a later date. Sturm Funeral Home, St. James Chapel is assisting the family. Online condolences may be left for the family at www. sturmfh. com. Lester was born August 9, 1933 to Otto and Thea (Hanson) Reckow in Hector, MN. He graduated from Hector High School in 1951. Lester served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. On June 22, 1957, he married Yvonne Eggert. Together they raised three children. In 1962 the family moved to St. James. Lester was the owner and operator of Watonwan Implement for many years. He also farmed, retiring from both jobs in 2002. Lester served as a Watonwan County Commissioner for fourteen years. He was also a member of the; Board of Directors for St. James Federal Savings and Loan, Watonwan County Library Board, St. James Lions Club, and served on the church councils of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hector and First Lutheran Church in St. James. In his free time, Lester enjoyed fishing, wintering in Arizona with Vonnie, fixing and repairing equipment, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. Lester is survived by his wife of 66 years, Vonnie; children, Kay Reckow of Alexandria, MN, Rick (Ann) Reckow of St. James, MN, and Jane (Dean) Blade of Alexandria, MN; grandchildren, Ben (Marissa) Reckow, Liz Reckow, David (Courtney) Nelson, Kyle Blade, and Kalley Blade; great grandchildren, Emersyn, Callahan, Ian, and Alayna; and sister, Irene (Paul) Erickson. Lester was preceded in death by his parents Otto and Thea; step-mother, Leona; and sister, Marlene (Orlo) Fluhrer.Show more

Vera Mae Kasa passed away October 18, 2023, 1 month short of her 96th Birthday at St John's Lutheran Home with her family beside her. A funeral service will be held at the Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel, on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 10:00 am. The clergy will be Chaplain Noel Wetter. Interment will be at the Walnut Grove Cemetery. Vera Mae was born to Paul & Viola (Freeman) Trewartha November 18, 1927. Vera graduated from Lamberton High School in 1945 and went on to Minneapolis to receive her Medical Technician training. In May of 1948 she was wed to Lamont (Knute) Kasa. They had one child, their daughter Paula. Vera and Knute lived and worked along Highway 14. They spent several years in Balaton until moving to Springfield in 1966. Vera enjoyed working at the City Clerk's office but working at the high school was the her favorite, getting to know so many students. Upon retirement she loved playing golf as well as traveling to friends in the SMC Mid States group with Knute. Vera was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church as well as an active member of the Eastern Star to include Worthy Matron. She loved her volunteer life with the Legion Auxiliary and St John's Nursing Home especially Sunday Chapel. Grateful for sharing her life is her daughter, Paula and husband Fred Welsch. She is survived by her brother, Jack Trewartha (Elaine) of Indiana, Jean Trewartha of Colorado along with 10 nieces and nephews. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Knute; her parents; and brothers, Buck and Bill Trewartha.Show more

Giles 'Pickle' James Riley, son of the late Sylvester and Ella (Petersen) Riley was born on May 6th 1945 at Redwood Falls Hospital. Pickle attended elementary school at the St. Mathias Catholic School in Wanda MN and graduated from Lamberton High School in 1963. He grew up on a farm outside of Wanda with his seven siblings riding horse, playing ball, and enjoying farm life. After high school, Pickle continued farming with his brothers and raising livestock. He met Carol Irlbeck and in 1967 married her. The marriage was blessed with two wonderful daughters, Deb and Karrie. Carol passed away from complications associated with multiple sclerosis in 1987. After farming, Pickle took a position at Sanborn Public School as a custodian, and after a few years, the district merged with Lamberton Schools. At that time, he met Linda Kisor, an elementary teacher, the next love and chapter in his life. Pickle impressed Linda by sending her a dozen of her favorite flower, white roses. They married on June 26th, 1992 and the kind gesture of a dozen white roses continued throughout their union. This marriage was blessed with his third wonderful daughter, Sheela. Pickle had an intense love for family and friends. His daughters were involved in a variety of activities and Pickle never missed one event, whether that be a concert, a drama production, sporting event or religious activity. He loved gatherings that included food, laughter and friends/family, and celebrations on the hill. He taught CCD for St. Mathias Catholic church and participated as a pitcher for the Wanda Mudhens men's fastpitch team. Pickle showed his passion for his community by becoming involved and volunteering in numerous activities, especially with the youth. He coached elementary basketball, summer girls softball, and Monday night Wanda youth ball for decades. And for a short time, he coached girls fastpitch summer ball. He was a founding board member of the Wanda 333 Club and helped create the memorial park and the antique tractor display and parade. Pickle organized a fundraiser each year during the 333 Cracker Days for funds to be donated to charities for different causes. He enjoyed collecting Allis Chalmers tractors and Dale Earnhardt Nascar paraphernalia. Pickle passed away on Wednesday, October 11th at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls SD, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 78. Those who mourn his passing include his wife Linda (Kisor) Riley, daughters Debra (Eric) Riley Ose, and her three children, Colin, Hannah, and Austin; Karrie (Craig) Myers and her three children, Mikayla, Mason and Mercedes along with stepsons Adam (Brittany), Tyler (special friend Ashley) and Matthew (Abby) and families; Sheela (John Linneman) Riley and her two children Emilia and Arthur. Siblings Sylvester (Kathleen) Riley, Audrey (Jim) Fuchs, Edward (Kathy) Riley, Bernard (Marianne) Riley and Marian (Dan) Arnoldi, along with many nieces and nephews. And Linda's siblings Lori (Brian) Gieseke and Larry (Vickie) Kisor and families. Preceding him in death are his parents, Sylvester and Ella, wife Carol, grandson Thomas Linneman, siblings Monica (Howard) Kinglsey and Dennis 'Tony' (Rita) Riley, nephews Christopher Riley and John Kingsley, mother-in-law Meredith Kisor Warnemunde, and fathers-in-law Wesley Kisor and John Warnemunde. Joyce Edna Wiese age 83, of Comfrey, MN died on October 3, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, MN. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 5, 2023 from 4 to 7 pm at the Sturm Funeral Home, Comfrey Chapel and will continue on Friday from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at the New Hope Lutheran Church, Comfrey. Service will be held at the New Hope Lutheran Church, on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 10:30 am. The clergy will be John Hopper. Interment will be at the New Hope Faith Lutheran Cemetery in Comfrey. Joyce Edna Wiese was born on May 10, 1940, to Arthur and Roscelia (Kratz) Becker in Mt. Lake, MN. After graduating from Comfrey High School, she obtained her LPN degree from the New Ulm Nursing School. On November 27, 1960, Joyce was united in marriage to Donald Wiese at Christ Lutheran Church in Stately Township. Joyce worked as a nurse at Dr. Rimas' office and Comfrey Hospital for 13 years. When she wasn't working as a nurse, Joyce was busy being a farmer's wife and preparing many meals for all working in the fields. She was a former member of Faith Lutheran Church and current member of New Hope Lutheran Church where she was involved with the Lutheran Women's Mission League. Joyce was also involved with the NFO and served as the secretary. Joyce was active in the Comfrey Legion Auxiliary throughout the years. Joyce enjoyed playing cards, listening and dancing to polka music, and traveling. She loved time with her family and friends. Joyce's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to St. John Lutheran Home and staff for the wonderful care she received the last 4 years and most recently Allina Hospice. She is survived by her children - Ramona Widmer of New Ulm, Debra (Burt) Manz of Park Rapids, David (Nancy) Wiese of New Ulm; grandchildren - Adam (Maddison) Manz, Donald Manz, Shaina (fiance Isaac Gieseke) Widmer, Breanna Widmer, Jim (Michele) Widmer Jr. , Melanie Meinert (fiance Jeremy Braun); great grandchildren; brother, Dennis (Alice) Becker of Sioux Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
