Betty Petitt, age 86 passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023. To most she was known as Betty Anne, to family she was Mom or Nan but to everyone she was a shining example of grace, diplomacy, and love. She often said she was never going to be an 'old' lady, and in her family's eyes she never was. It felt impossible there would come a day when we would lose her. When the moment arrived that she crossed to be in the arms of angels and The Lord, it seemed time stood still; like we were just waiting for her to awaken so we had one more day. Betty Anne loved being a realtor, helping clients who became dear friends find a home. She liked to dine out, have a glass of good wine and spend hours visiting with her friends and family. As she aged, she would spend hours talking on the phone with those who she couldn't travel to see. Looking back, we wish we hadn't thought we were too busy at times to spend a few extra minutes on the call. She was a vivid storyteller and well loved by us and friends around the world. She held on to a playful mentality and eternal youth. No visit with her was complete without having a cup of tea or a glass of wine, playing Uno, Yahtzee or one of her other favorite games. She always had a tell when she was about to win, and she usually did. Betty Anne always made everyone feel important. Heard. Understood. She was the epitome of class and never took sides in an argument, and in many ways held us all together. She was a giving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved her family and friends in a way that was only matched in the books she loved to read in her massive personal library of novels. She loved her collection of elephant figurines, tea pots and cups, Jeopardy and (to the chagrin of some of her younger generations, Fox News). She patiently and lovingly cared for her husband, Ted for 13 years after he suffered a massive stroke at 49. In return, she was deeply loved for her patience and compassion. She has surely earned her reward. She will be forever held in our hearts until we meet again in that heavenly reunion of promised eternal life.
