ANN DENIKE BENNETT, July 19th, 1931 - April 21st, 2023. The flag is at half-mast for our Commander-in-Chief, Ann Denike (Witthun). Born to William and Helen Witthun in Campbellford, Ann grew up in Ottawa, often teased unmercifully by her adored, older brother Craig. After the war, the family moved to Toronto where Ann finished her schooling and earned her teacher's certificate. She met her husband, Bob Bennett, in kindergarten at Campbellford Public School. After a long courtship, they married in 1954 and this year, on April 17th, they celebrated their 69th anniversary. Ann and Bob lived in Kingston, Sault Ste Marie and Sudbury while raising their 3 daughters Susan, (John, Stephen) Catherine (Bob, Mark, Mike) and Janet (Colin). She is predeceased by her infant son Andrew and daughter Catherine. Following Bob's retirement, they moved back to Campbellford. Ann was a strong supporter of Bob's business career at Canadian Tire, sharing her wisdom, advice and guidance with him. Ann enjoyed many water sports and the cottage lifestyle, as well as winter sports. She volunteered as a coach to a high school girls curling team, played bridge, was a Girl Guide leader and worked at a crippled children's (now Easter Seals) camp. A lifelong membership in IODE kept Ann connected to her community. She also co-ordinated the Memorial Hospital gift shop in Sudbury for many years. Grandchildren attendees of "Nana Bennett's School of Fine Manners" Leslie, Kathryn, Christine, Rob, Catrina and Levi and their spouses will sorely miss Ann, as will her great grandchildren and her nieces and nephews. Ann requested there be no eulogies at her service, hence the detail in this obituary. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully welcomed by the Campbellford Memorial Hospital, St John's United Church, Campbellford, or a charity of your choice. How lucky we are to have had this gracious woman in our lives for so long! Cremation has taken place as per her wishes. A private family graveside service will have taken place. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 12th at 11am, at St John's United Church, Campbellford. Reception to follow at the church.
