Raymond Thomas Leddy, 90, of Stony Point, NY, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on November 16, 2023. He was born in the West Side neighborhood of Manhattan on March 25, 1933 to his parents John and Ellen Leddy. Raymond graduated from Holy Cross Grammar School, attended Machine Metal High School and later in life received his Associates Degree from Rockland Community College. Raymond proudly served our country as a member of the U. S. Army in Korea (53-55). When he returned, he became a proud member of the NYC Police Department for 21 years. Upon retirement, Ray went on to work for the Theatrical Teamsters Local 817. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a devoted daily parishioner of St. Gregory's. Raymond enjoyed spending time with his family, walking and going out on his pontoon boat. He married Marilyn Whalen on April 26, 1958. For the last 60 years, Ray and Marilyn resided in Stony Point where they raised their four children, Raymond (Terry), Kevin (Tara), Mary Ellen (Jim), and Dennis (Marci). Raymond's grandchildren are John, JenniferMeagan, James, Allison and Kevin. His step-grandchildren are J. J. , Dylan, Madison and Connor. Raymond also has three great-granddaughters. Raymond was predeceased by his parents and brothers, John, Vincent, Robert, and James. Funeral arrangements will be held at T. J. McGowan's at 71 Central Highway, Garnerville, from 4 p. m. -8 p. m. on Tuesday, November 21. A mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a. m. on Wednesday, November 22nd at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church at 25 Cinder Road, Garnerville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.Show more

Alfred Francis Kitz, lovingly known as Al, peacefully passed away at home on October 3, 2023, in Stony Point, New York, at the age of 85. He was born on July 24, 1938, in the Bronx, New York, to Alfred and Helen (nee Davis) Kitz. Al was a devoted husband to his cherished wife of 62 years, Teresa Kitz (nee Breslin). Together, they forged a life built on unwavering love and cherished memories. Al was a loving father to his four children and their spouses, Eileen (Larry) Nociolo, James (Clare) Kitz, Diane (Thomas) Torpey, and Annmarie (John) O'Brien. Al was a source of pride and joy as a grandfather to Julie (Greg) Mumby, Bryan (Lacey) Kitz, Jessica Kitz, Paula (Kevin Adams) Nociolo, Corinne (Josh Palsgraf) Torpey, Michael Nociolo, Jack (Rachel Goldenson) O'Brien, his angel Megan Torpey, Matthew Torpey, Aida Torpey, Dylan Torpey, Charlie (Jane) O'Brien, James (Martha) O'Brien, and Conor Torpey. His heart overflowed with love for his adorable great-grandchildren Oscar Mumby, Elsie Adams, Imogene Mumby, and Marcus Adams. Al is also survived by his sister Helen Morone, his sisters~in-law Marguerite Kitz, Sr. Margaret Breslin, Eileen Breslin, Diane Breslin, and Cathy Breslin, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Juliana and Elizabeth Maher, his brothers Thomas and Francis, brothers-in-law Guy Morone and Michael Maher, sister-in-law Maura Kitz, and his granddaughter Megan Torpey. Al dedicated 30 years of his life to the noble service of the New York City Police Department. Even after retiring, Al continued to lend a helping hand to those in need, volunteering his time at local food pantries. An accomplished woodworker, Al's talent knew no bounds. Crafting exquisite furniture and wooden toys, he poured his heart and soul into each piece, creating lasting treasures for his family and friends. Al also loved reading, especially historical accounts and tales of exploration. His thirst for knowledge and admiration for the accomplishments of historical figures and intrepid adventurers fueled his passion for learning. When not engrossed in his woodworking or reading, Al found peace in the great outdoors. Whether it be hiking, camping, or navigating the waterways in his own handmade wooden canoe, he reveled in the beauty of nature. He held a special place in his heart for his Pennsylvania retreat, and loved having family and friends spend time with them there. Above all else, nothing brought Al greater joy than being surrounded by his beloved family. Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life during the calling hours at the TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home, located at , on Friday, October 6th, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on John Street in Stony Point on Saturday, October 7th, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to United Hospice of Rockland or the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill. These organizations held special meaning to Al, and any contributions made in his memory would be deeply appreciated. Al's presence will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known him. Margaret R. Helgans On September 18, 2023, Margaret R. Helgans, a long-time resident of Stony Point, passed away at the age of 84. Margaret was born in New York City to Margaret and Ronald Pearl. Margaret grew up in Queens Village and visited the Hudson Valley Region as a young girl. She had a love for animals and would often recount the many family visits to the local farms. She was a graduate of Jamaica High School and Rockland Community College. Margaret was an active member of the St. Gregory Barbarigo Parish where she served on various committees. She was a Girl Scout Leader and taught arts and craft classes to children and adults alike. She worked for the North Rockland School DIstrict, Lederle Labs, and IBM. In her later years she was a member of the Nyack Hospital Volunteer Program, Stony Point Lions Club, and the local Senior Center. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, traveling with her husband, visiting with friends and family, and cherished the quality time spent with her granddaughters. Margaret was predeceased by her loving husband Richard Helgans. She is survived by her children, Mary Petruncola (Donald Petruncola) and Ellen (Eleanor) Helgans, and her two precious granddaughters, Emily and Jane. Of her many blessings, Margaret most cherished the gift of her family. Her daughters and granddaughters were her greatest joy. Funeral Services are private and a memorial celebration will be held at a future date. William B. McGovern "Barney" (1948-2023) William Bernard McGovern, affectionately known as "Barney", passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Good Samaritan Hospital on Saturday, September 16, 2023. He was 75 years old. Barney was born in Nyack, New York in 1948 to proud parents William Joseph McGovern and Kathryn V Brown McGovern. He spent his early years in Haverstraw, New York, before later settling in New Windsor, New York. Barney was a graduate of Haverstraw-Stony Point High School, and his strong sense of duty led him to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He valiantly defended his country as a Vietnam veteran, returning home with honor. Following his military service, Barney embarked on a fulfilling career with USG that spanned over four decades. His dedication and hard work were recognized and appreciated by all who knew him. In pursuit of his personal growth, he earned a Bachelor's Degree from Mercy College. Barney was preceded in death by his loving parents but leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love and resilience. He is survived by his longtime companion, Martha Meyers. Additionally, he is survived by his dear sister, Kathryn of Spring, Texas, and his two sons, David (Robin Brady) of New Windsor, NY, and Kevin (Kristen) of Winston Salem, NC. Barney's pride and joy were his three beloved grandchildren, Joseph, Kayleigh, and Madison. In accordance with Barney's wishes, there will be no formal funeral services. Instead, the family kindly requests that those who wish to pay their respects make donations to the Wounded Warrior Foundation in his honor, a cause close to his heart. Arrangements for Barney's final journey have been thoughtfully coordinated by the Michael J Higgins Funeral Home of Stony Point, New York. Barney's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him, as a dedicated family man, a respected veteran, and a true friend. May he rest in eternal peace.
