Deborah Heuvel

Deborah Heuvel

Age - N/A

December 2, 2023

Deborah was a Mother, Grandmother, Great- Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and best friend to so many. Deborah passed away on November 29th, 2023 surrounded by the family that she loved so dearly. Deborah was daughter of late Helen and Harry Wright, and wife to late Richard VandenHeuvel, both of Brooklyn, NY. She is survived by her daughters, Dawn Engebretsen (John), Jean Carta (Anthony) and Audrey VandenHeuvel (Chris); grandchildren, Kaitlin (Daniel), Megan, Nora (Jonathan), Jillian (Esteban), Shannon (John), Sebastian, Christian, Rhiannon, James, and Leighanne; and her great granddaughter, Grace; along with her bonus granddaughter, Amanda. She is also survived by her brother, Robert, beloved niece and nephew, Lori and Timothy and lifelong friend, Frank Lanigan. It is impossible to name all of the lives that she touched. Deborah loved her family deeply and was proudest of her children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter. She always had an open door for family and friends, and loved to be surrounded by children. Animals were her second love. She sat and watched the birds and squirrels outside of her front door, she even had a favorite squirrel that waited for her everyday to eat bread that she saved for them. She cared for countless pups and cats over the years, and loved watching tv and listening to music with Grizzly Bear, Dollar, Baby, and her very favorite, Jester. Deborah will be most remembered for her compassion, kindness, strength, and unwavering love for people and animals. She was gentle but fierce, selfless, a listening ear, a shoulder (or two) to cry on and always had open arms. We will miss holding her hand, her soothing voice, gentle head pats, and especially, reassurance that everything will always be alright. The time we had with her will never be enough but her light will always live on in our family and we will continue to carry her strength, love, and legacy with us always. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association (https://www. heart. org ) or Friends of Animals (https://friendsofanimals. org) would be greatly appreciated.
