Amy Linda Smith was born to Hosie and Linda Gates on August 3, 1978 in Helena, Arkansas. She was a loving, caring, kindhearted, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She took pride in working hard and putting a smile on others faces. She will truly be missed! Amy accepted Jesus as her Lord and savior at an early age & later rededicated her life to him. Amy entered Matrimony with Monroe Smith on May 2, 2001 and they were married for 17 years, To this union three children were born and four were raised. Her first born child with Corey Deon Wilson. Amy departed this life on September 26, 2023. She preceded in death Hosie Gates Sr. ; Father, Linda PG Word; Mother. She leaves to cherish her memories four children Corneshia Wilson; Maniah Smith; Taylor Smith; and Melonie Smith. Seven grandchildren. Alonzo Sanders, Chase Sanders, Kensly Sanders, Jordan Williams, Major Tate, Zaylan Tate, Kaydan Tate. Five sisters and two brothers. Irene Davis (Larry) of Conway, Arkansas, Hosie Gates Jr. of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Marva Walker of Texarkana, Arkansas, Kathy Gates of Memphis, Tennessee, Geraldine Troope of West Helena Arkansas, Verdale Gates of Russellville, Arkansas and Justine Word of Memphis, Tennessee. Nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. And special friend Rodney Clark. She was surrounded by family as she made her transition. We as a family would like to say thank you to everyone that played a part in helping our sister Amy Linda Smith, while she was fighting Breast Cancer. Rather you came by while she was in the hospital or visiting her when she came home. We would like to say thank you and may GOD bless you and your family. Roosevelt (Bay) Phillips was born Wednesday, November 8,1944 in Phillips county in Mellwood,Ar to Van Buren Phillips and Louvenia (Ellis) Phillips. Deacon Phillips met and married Linda Carol Simmons-Phillips in October of 1966. Deacon "Bay" confessed a hope in Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev F. A. Simpson at Zion Travelers M. B. Church in Mellwood,Arkansas. He served as deacon until his death. He loved to have family get togethers and his hobbies is mowing and dancing . Deacon Phillips transitioned on Friday November 17,2023 at Methodist Hospital in Memphis Tennesee at 10:00 P. M. Deacon Phillips was preceded in death by parents Van Buren Phillips and Louvenia Phillips, his loving wife Linda Carol Simmons Phillips, one child Teresa Phillips Lamb , his brothers Erving, James, Albert, Ernest, J. P. , Freddie and sisters Laura, Martha, and Mary Lee. She attended Holly Grove Elementary School and graduated from Holly Grove High School in 1970. Era worked a number of years at the Bellevue Shoe Company in Clarendon, Arkansas. After moving to Helena, Arkansas, Era worked in education for twenty-five years. She retired from education in 2012. She had a genuine love for children, and she later opened her own successful in-home daycare center. Era was a highly skilled seamstress, and she loved fishing. She always made sure that everyone was taken care of to the best of her ability. Reading, studying her Bible, and praying were important aspects of her life. She always had an encouraging word, a sympathetic ear, and a helping hand to offer others, regardless of what she was going through herself. She taught her children and grandchildren to love God and serve him with their lives. She was a living example of what it means to serve God with everything you have. She was united in matrimony to Johnny Starr in 1970, who preceded her in death in 1977. To this union, two children were born. In 1978, she married Hollis Foster Jr. To this union, two children were born. She was baptized and joined Pine City Baptist Church at an early age where she served as a choir member and as the church secretary. She was a faithful member at the Apostolic Life Center Church under the leadership of Bishop Sarah Jackson & Pastor Leroy Jackson Jr. Later on in life, she joined the Church of the Living God Pillar and Ground of the Truth, under the leadership of Bishop Michael Jenkins and Pastor Mary Jenkins. She was a faithful member of COLG, where she became an ordained Eldress. Era was preceded in death by her parents, Bill (Laura) Hicks, one sister, Amanda McGahee, one brother, James McClair, and a special aunt, Lugennia Peete. Lovingly remembering Era is one brother, Charlie (Ann) Hicks of Chicago, Illinois; a son, Hollis Foster III, of West Helena, Arkansas; three daughters, Felita (Emanuel) Renee Reed of Helena, Arkansas, Laura (Ricky) Marchell Starr-Phillips of West Helena, Arkansas, and Tamikia (Earnest) Nicole Williams of Omaha, Nebraska. She leaves ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a special sister, Margaret Jackson, and many other friends. He served his country in the United States Army and supported his family as a supervisor at Hoffinger Industries. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Leavor Larry, Sr. ; 1 son, Corey Larry, Sr. ; 1 daughter-in-law, Angela Larry; paternal grandparents, Eddie and Leanna Larry; maternal grandparents, James and Minnie Robertson; 2 sisters, Pearlie Mae Larry, Jeannette Beale and 1 brother, James H. Kelly Askew was born on September 8,2000 in Helena,AR to Kesha Hunt and the late Kenneth Askew Jr. Kelly devoted her life to Christ at New Haven Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev GG Brown. She is a 2018 graduate of Central High School and was currently enrolled in the cosmetology program at Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas. Kelly loved to dance, style hair, and take lots of pictures. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends but more than anything she enjoyed spending time with her children. Kelly was proceeded in death by her precious baby boy Jace Weaver, her father Kenneth Askew Jr, her grandmother Phyllis Stanley and grandfather Lewis Hunt. She is survived by her children Jaden Jr and Jaleigh Weaver, her mother Kesha Hunt, her bonus dad Marlow Mason her siblings Kierra Williams (James Ewing), Tierra Dukes, Shaqueal Williams, Antwan Moore, Kenya Askew, Kiresha Parnell and Marlocia Mason. Her grandfather Kenneth Askew Sr. grandmother Mary (James) Wright. Her great grandmother Notie McGinister. Kincaid Funeral Services reserves the right to post entries at its discretion. )Marvin Louis Brown was born to the union of Willie James Brown and Geneva P. Kincaid on August 15, 1952. He accepted the Lord at an early age at Greater First Baptist church in West Helena, Arkansas under Reverend Butler and after many years again gave his life back to Christ. Marvin hailed from the wonderful city of West Helena, Arkansas and graduated from Central High School in 1970. He ran track in High School and held a record in the state until it was broken years later. Marvin was also a member of the Spirit of Helena Junior Chorus while in Arkansas. He later served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge. Marvin moved to South Bend, Indiana in 1976. There he played softball and held a record for the fastest base runner. Once while he was on first base and another player was on second, he told that runner to get out of the way or he will run him over. That is how fast he was. Marvin was a private person except with family and friends. He was employed at Don Meadow Motors for over 20 years before they went out of business, then was hired by Jordan Ford Automotive Group of Mishawaka, Indiana as a laborer. He worked at Jordan Ford until his death. Marvin loved cars and kept a load of them all over his house, including one that he cherished as his baby. Marvin was preceded in death by his father and mother, a son, Christopher; two (2) brothers, John Henry Boles and Columbus L. Boles. He leaves to cherish his memory three children: two (2) daughters, Tammie Perkins (Shearron P. , Jr. ) of Independence, MO; Sheila Brown of Memphis, TN and one (1) son, Kenneth Brown of Memphis, TN; two (2) grandchildren, Nathan Perkins and Christal Perkins; four (4) sisters, Katherine Boles of West Helena, AR; Easter Williams of Palm Beach, FL; Patricia Barnes-Gregg of Mishawaka, IN and Mary France Mitchell of South Bend, IN; three (3) brothers, Leroy Layton of St. Louis, MO; James Mitchell of Olive Branch, MS, Kalvin Brown of Garland, TX and a host of nieces and nephews. Kincaid Funeral Services reserves the right to post entries at its discretion. )Gwaun Diron Frierson (49) passed away with his grace on Wednesday October 4, 2023. He came from humble beginnings. He was the youngest of twelve children. Gwaun was born on August 29, 1974, to Elmer Jerome and Mattie Anna Frierson in Lexa, Arkansas. As a young person, he made a profession of Christian faith and was active in the church and served as a dedicated junior superintendent at Spring Lake Missionary Baptist Church. In 1991, he graduated from Barton High School and went on to serve in the Arkansas National Guard. His father, Elmer Jerome Frierson, who died in 2000 and his two eldest brothers, Sherman Jerome Frierson (2004) and Audrey Evon Frierson (2021) preceded Gwaun in death. He leaves his enduring memory to his four children, Kymesha Frierson, Semaj Frierson, Gwaun Frierson, Jr. , and Derrick Frierson. Gwaun also leaves eight grandchildren, Ashton, Ayden, Trinton, Madison , Arnaysia, Kirho , Semaj Jr. , Kaleb, and his 90-year-old mother, Mrs. Mattie Frierson. As mentioned, Gwaun is the youngest of nine living children. He leaves nine siblings: four sisters, Alma Claudine Frierson and Janice Frierson of Matteson of Illinois; Virgie Frierson and Connie Frierson of Albuquerque, NM; his brothers: Elmer Frierson (Ora) of Riverdale, IL; Hugh Walter Frierson of St. Paul, MN; Lennie Frierson (Ozella) of Indianapolis, IN; Valerian Frierson of Lexa, AR, and Marty Frierson of Dallas-Fort Worth, TX. He also enjoyed an extended family of three cousins: Lawrence Whitfield of Bisbee, AZ; Joshua Whitfield (Rhea) of Irving, TX; Shiloh Whitfield (Valerie) of Aurora, CO, and a host of uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Gwaun was a fun spirited soul who took on many passions. Two of which included welding and tattooing. He had incredible artistic talent. He found comfort and peace in capturing raw nature and using it to express himself. One of Gwaun's favorite places to live was in Oklahoma where he worked for Pioneer Transport, Inc. He recently received his CDL license and had planned to start his own trucking company. He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them- and if you knew him, you knew it. Gwaun was held in high regard and respected by many close friends. Gwaun was a beautiful person inside and out. His enthusiasm and laughter would light up the whole room. He cared so deeply for the people around him. Gwaun made an impact on many lives. He will be forever missed -- until we meet again, dad, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
