Alvin Walsh Triplett, aka "Tripp", age 102, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Shaire Center. He was born in Wilkes County on June 20, 1921 to the late Charlie Triplett and Suzanne Walsh Triplett. Alvin was a veteran of the United States Air Force. In 1993, he entered Shaire Center for rehabilitation and while there he began his ministry of sharing Jesus and Werther's Original candy to all the staff and residents. With each piece came his words of "Glory to God". His 1953 Chevy truck was his pride and joy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, J. C. Triplett; Ralph "Junior" Triplett; sister, Maude Young; and half-sister, Becky Bentley. Alvin is survived by his sons, Byron Triplett and wife, Pam; Bobby Triplett and wife, Teresa; daughter, Lenita Pope and husband, Tim; grandchildren, Jason Triplett and wife, Nicole; Todd Triplett and wife, Wendy; Jennifer Taylor and husband, Jody; Amy Wendelborg and Jeff Younce; Nichole Watters and husband, Chris; Ethan Pope and wife, Emily; Austin Pope and fiancee, Christina Borzichella; 12 great-grandchildren; half-brothers, Gary Triplett and Jonie Triplett; half-sister, Lynn Martin; numerous other family members and too many friends to name. A celebration of Alvin's life will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at New Beginning Missionary Baptist Church, 4416 Calico Road, Lenoir, at 3:00 PM with Pastor Daniel Buchanan officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Dry Ponds Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 prior to the service. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Shaire Center and Amorem for the excellent care given to Alvin. Linda "Granny" Wooten Helton, 86, of Lenoir, NC went home to be with the Lord on November 29, 2023. Linda was born on July 31, 1937 to the late Lloyd and Catherine Wooten. In addition to Linda's parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, J. C. "Paw" Helton; her sister, Lucy McGuire; and her brothers, Ryan Wooten and Charles Wooten. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Elizabeth Price (John), Cynthia Potter (Johnny), Debra Johnson (Keith); sons, William "George" Helton, Steven Helton, and Seth Whisenant (Penny); grandchildren, Ashley Smith, Clint Price, Caleb Rogers, David Rogers, Jennifer Johnson, Katie Price; great-grandchildren, Gunner Smith, Levi Rogers, Gage Mclean; sister, Mabel Dale; honorary family member, Krista Hamby; and pall bearers, Seth Whisenant, Shannon Dunn, Clint Price, Chris Smith, Gunner Smith, David Rogers, Johnny Potter, and Keith Johnson. Linda was a strong and spirited woman who cared deeply for her friends and family. She was also extremely generous to anyone in need. She loved to travel whenever she had the chance and always had a book in her hand, usually a mystery novel. She was an avid cross-stitcher and lover of sweets, especially ice-cream. She was a lifetime member of Cedar Rock Baptist Church. A 2:00 PM visitation for Linda "Granny" Helton will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Cedar Rock Baptist Church with a service following at 3:00 PM. Shirley Elizabeth Haas, age 83, of Lenoir, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Shirley was predeceased by her father, Avery Grayson Coffey and her mother, Mamie Elizabeth (Clay) Coffey. She is survived by her daughter Kathi Cheek (Larry) of Lenoir, N. C. and her son Kenny Haas of Granite Falls, N. C. and another son, Michael Haas (Lisa), of Lenoir, N. C. and a brother Royce Coffey of Lenoir, N. C. Shirley retired from the Lenoir News-Topic after having worked there for twenty-five years. She was a member of Gamewell Methodist Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memory are her three children and six grandchildren, Kaylor, Karrie, Jonathan, Michael Lee, Joshua Andrew, Preston, and nine great-grandchildren, Cooper, Stella, Dixie, Chloe, Avery, Waylon, Andrew, Mia, and Maylee. She loved being and working outdoors with her flowers. A funeral service will be held in Pendry's Funeral Home chapel on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 2:00 p. m. with the Reverend Gray Williams officiating. Interment will occur immediately following the funeral service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lenoir, N. C. with Rev. Walter Lundy. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 from 1:00 p. m. to 1:50 p. m. at Pendry's Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are Jonathan Marley, Michael Lee Haas, Joshua Andrew Haas, Larry Cheek, Jesse Adams, and Bruce Angle. Eric Blake Flanagan, 16, of Lenoir, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 24, 2023. He was born March 2, 2007 to Christopher Alejo of Hickory and Wendy Flanagan Gambino of Lenoir. Blake was of the Christian faith and was a member of Calvary Advent Christian Church Youth Group. He attended Hibriten High School, where he was a member of the school chorus, Beta Club, and a straight 'A' student. Blake was an avid reader, fascinated with WWII history, Star Wars, and enjoyed playing video games. He listened to music on his earbuds non-stop, and had just begun to learn to play guitar. Blake loved his family dearly. He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandmother, Clarice Tarr; and his maternal great-grandfather, Dean Pennington. Beryl Bradshaw Smith, age 96, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Hickory Village Memory Care where she had resided for the past three years. She was born in Lenoir on March 6, 1927 to the late John Bradshaw and Geneva Knight Bradshaw. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Max F. Smith, Sr. ; son, Max F. Smith, Jr. ; four brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include one daughter, Linda S. Morrison; two granddaughters, Alexandra M. Smith (Matt) and Christina M. Chavka (Seth); and three great-grandchildren, Cooper Smith, Campbell Smith, and Mackenzie Chavka. Beryl was very proud of her family and was a joy to be with. She was very musically talented and could play several musical instruments. She always lit up when reminiscing about her Lenoir High School Band years in the 1940's while under the direction of the renowned Captain Harper. She played the bassoon and xylophone. Beryl was a lifelong member of College Avenue Baptist Church where she was a choir member and also played piano for the children's Sunday School for many years. She retired from Bernhardt Furniture and then worked at Belk for several years. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 11:00 A. M. at Blue Ridge Memorial Park conducted by Minister of Music, Jenny Thompson.
