Ellen Doyle

Jul 15, 1960 - Feb 17, 2024

Greenville, SC

Ellen Doyle was born on July 15, 1960, in La Salle, IL. Ellen was the tenth living child among thirteen children born to Thomas and Ann Doyle. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior in January of 1986, which changed her life's direction. Ellen earned her associate degree in nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and finished her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Bob Jones University. In 1993, Ellen went on a mission trip to Armenia. There a desire was kindled to become a full-time medical missionary, a desire that would eventually lead her to Cameroon, West Africa. After completing a Master of Arts degree in Biblical Counseling in 1996, Ellen started deputation and began serving as a medical missionary in Cameroon in 1998. She started her missionary career with Dr. Carol Loescher near the capital city of Yaoundé, where she helped establish and volunteer in a medical clinic. In 2000, she moved to the Far North of Cameroon in the sub-Saharan desert in hopes of starting a mobile medical clinic among the nomadic people. Several years later God directed her to Foumban, Cameroon, to help Dr. Carol Loescher with the medical ministry among the Bamoun and Fulani people groups. In July 2005 Ellen was invited to help a missionary pilot whose vision was to evangelize unreached people groups in remote regions. Ellen embraced the opportunity with alacrity. Participating in mobile evangelistic clinics was a joy for Ellen. She loved meeting physical and spiritual needs in the African bush. Ellen was blessed to see fruit from her efforts as people accepted the Lord as their Savior and churches were planted. In addition to her bush ministry, Ellen treated inmates behind bars in a prison, and she served as a camp nurse and counselor for "Camp Joy' for numerous summers. In 2013 Ellen moved to Bafoussam, Cameroon, and served among the Bamiléké people for 10 years. On one of her trips into the bush, Ellen encountered a young child suffering from malnutrition, and the Lord directed Ellen to care for her and to bring her into her own home. Doris lived with Ellen for many years and became like a daughter to her. Ellen encouraged and fostered Doris’ education with an ardent desire that Doris would eventually return to her village and share the Gospel with her native community. In June 2023 Ellen moved to France to have a ministry with the Loeschers and to receive medical care in Heidelberg, Germany. Ellen is survived by her brothers and sisters (Paula Lenz, Debbie Walens, Joan Peterson, Luke Doyle, Kay Tasset, Becky Meier, Kim Doyle, Pat Doyle, David Doyle, and Mark Doyle) and her nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Mount Calvary Baptist Church (115 Cedar Lane Road, Greenville, SC, 29601) at noon on Thursday, February 22. The service will be livestreamed on the church website (www.mountcalvarybaptist.org). A funeral service will be held on March 9 at 11 a.m. at Lighthouse Baptist Church (3194 US Hwy. 251 N, La Salle, IL 61354). In lieu of flowers, Ellen has requested that donations be given to Gospel Fellowship Association to further the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
