Alta Thurman (Anita Downey), age 68, of Cresco, Iowa passed away on August 24, 2023 at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco. Alta Jeanette was born in 1954, the daughter of Alta Mae Myers and Ralph J Mason of California. Anita spent many years as a caregiver. She had a soft spot for animals and loved her fur baby, Princess Gizzy. Anita is survived by her husband of 30 years, Joseph Downey, son Johnny Lee Thurman, grandson SGT. Brandon Field, great-grandsons Elexander and Jasper Field, special friend Sherry Halvorson, three brothers: Charlie Mason, Larry Mason and Tony Mason, three sisters: Kathy Mason, Lita Kinyoun and Patsy Jones. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter during childbirth, Alta Thurman, mother Alta Mae Mason and a sister Ruth Watson. Anita's family wishes to express special appreciation and thanks to the staff of Howard County Hospice and Dr. Jon Kammerer for all the love and compassionate care Anita received in the last weeks and days of her life. God's blessing to all of you. No formal services for Anita are planned at this time.

| Teressa Ann Rickard age 57 of Cresco, Iowa, passed away on October 17 2023 At Gunderson Lutheran medical center in La Crosse Wisconsin after a battle with ongoing health problems. She was born on November 17 1965 to Kathy Sickles and Garry Sickles Sr. She married but later divorced. Teressa had many things she enjoyed from singing, fishing, crocheting, art, sewing, and writing short stories or poems. She always wanted to become a writer. When she was not doing any of those things, she was spending time with her boys and family. Even being disabled she tried to stay active as much as she could with family. She is survived by her two sons Matthew (Cynthia) Rickard, and Eric Rickard all of Cresco Iowa, one Granddaughter Aurora Stevens of New Market Alabama, Dallas Nolan. Her mother Kathy Sickles of Manchester, IA. and four siblings Garrett (Audrey Woxland) Sickles of Mabel, MN. Darrell (Kathy) Everly of Elgin IA. Melvina (Mike) Macal of Decorah, IA and Cindy (Steve Popplewell) Nehl Coon Rapids MN and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father Garry Sickles Sr. one Daughter Rebecca Rickard, and two Nephews Dustin VanLaningham and Bryan Sickles The family would like to thank Coulee Cremation Group for the services. Celebration of life will be held at a later date back home in Cresco Iowa. Thank you for the kindness, love and compassion you gave in this life! The community, family and friends you gave an example to~ how to give without bias. We miss you already ~ sis She was a kind soul that always lent a empathic ear. Russell David Ferrie, age 62 of Cresco, IA passed away from complications due to surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester on October 17, 2023. He was surrounded by many wonderful and caring doctors and nurses during his final days. Russell was born on November 26,1960 to Ray and Gladys (Frana) Ferrie. He graduated from Crestwood High School in 1979. He made many lifetime friends and memories. He will forever be remembered for his contagious smile and hugs. After high school Russell started working for Winneshiek County as a Maintainer Driver for 26 years. After being forced to retire from the county due to an injury, he worked for various hog farmers. In 1989 his daughter, Jazmon, was born which brought tremendous joy to his life. This also brought his grandson, Silas, whom he adored. After years of searching he finally met the love of his life, Cindy Wenthold. They wed in 2013 at their Lourdes home, and later moved to a home outside of Cresco. They made many memories in their 10 year marriage. Fond memories of Russell include his love of telling stories and jokes, sense of humor, and musical ability to sing Old McDonald Had A Farm. He also brought a lot of excitement to the game of Poker. Russell enjoyed watching all kinds of sports but was an avid Raiders fan and enjoyed watching them most of all!Russell is survived by his wife Cindy, grandson Silas Booze, mother Gladys Ferrie, brothers Kenneth (Carol), Kevin,and Roger (Kari); sister-in-law Ann Ferrie and many special nieces and nephews that he loved. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jazmon; father Ray; sisters Amy and Nancy; brother Dean and sister-in-law Deb Ferrie. A celebration of life will be held at the Heritage Events Center, 229 3rd Ave W. Cresco, on Saturday, November 25, 2023, from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Arlan Clifford Quandahl passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023 after a short battle with brain cancer. Arlan was born April 7, 1957 to Orland "Bud" and Sylvia (Hovey) Quandahl in Cresco, Iowa. He attended kindergarten through high school in Cresco where he graduated in 1975. After high school, he attended Kirkwood Community College where he received a degree in business. He spent much of his career working for Culligan International and had recently retired from Titan TV in Cedar Rapids. He quickly found a retirement job working at Timber and Tools in the Amana colonies helping people pick out the perfect board for their project, the most perfect job for Arlan. He married Jane Scott Miller on August 9, 1986. Two children were born to this union. Throughout his life Arlan had several interests and hobbies. He volunteered for the Monona ambulance service as a driver, was on the board of directors for EWALU Summer Camp, and taught Sunday school at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. He loved woodworking and doing projects. He collected antique tools and never passed on a good tool sale. Arlan was as handy as they come. In his shop you can find 100's of peanut butter jars full of parts and pieces "just in case". His girls knew they could count on him to fix anything. He was a devoted husband and father and the best papa in the whole world. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his grandkids. Arlan is survived by his wife Jane; daughters Paige (Mike) Hoberg and Haley (Scott) Williams; grandchildren Briella and Knox Williams and Magnolia Hoberg; his brothers and sisters Ruth (Mike) Hendricks, Carolyn (Chuck) Quale, Paul (Sue) Quandahl, Dean (Linda) Quandahl and Joel (Lisa) Quandahl; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents Bud and Sylvia Quandahl and his God parents Casey and Arlene Zdun.Show more

Dale Arthur Turnmire, 92 of Cresco, Iowa passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, Iowa. Dale Arthur Turnmire was born in Spring Valley, Minnesota on July 20, 1931, to Clark and Luverne Turnmire. He graduated from Cresco High School in 1949 and received a degree in Business Management from the University of Iowa in 1954. Dale married Mary Ellen Daly on January 3, 1953. After graduation, Dale and Mary Ellen returned to Cresco to begin their life together. There, Dale joined his father, Clark, in the day-to-day operations of Puritan Ice Cream and Meat Processing Company. Together they began truck routes servicing area restaurants and bars with Puritan meat, sausage and ice cream products. In the early 1970's, Dale's Fine Meat Market opened, providing Cresco shoppers with a fresh meat counter and limited frozen meats and grocery products. During his many years in the meat industry, Dale served as Executive Director for the Iowa Meat Processors Association. In that capacity, Dale testified numerous times before state and national legislative committees and the Department of Agriculture regarding meat inspection regulations. For his many efforts, he received the National Achievement Award from the American Association of Meat Processors, as well as the Distinguished Service Award from the Iowa Meat Processors Association. For over 40 years, Dale was involved in countless projects and activities to promote the Cresco community. His philosophy was that he would work hard and lend his support to anything that would benefit the area. His efforts supported, among others, the Cresco Fitness Center, Howard-Winneshiek School, The Cresco Opera House and local medical services. Topping his list of numerous accomplishments were the recruitment of the Donaldson Company plant to Cresco in the 1960s and the relocation of Featherlite Inc. headquarters from Minnesota to Cresco/Davis Corners. During the 1980s and into the 1990s, he served as the director the Cresco Chamber of Commerce, as well as director of the Cresco Industrial Development Corp. , serving as its President from 1978-1979. He was a volunteer for ACDI-VOCA, a federal overseas volunteer project, from 1993 to 2005. He served as a meat specialist assigned to more than 23 meatpacking plants and organizations in former Soviet Union countries. His experience benefitted plants in Lithuania, Estonia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Mongolia, Siberia, Russia and Armenia. Dale's last project for the community involved spearheading the Streetscape Project, which has resulted in the installation of more than 40 bronze statues in Cresco and Howard County on behalf of donors. This effort required identifying and coordinating with the companies that produces the statues, create the bases and provide upkeep for the statues. Dale was not all work and no play. He enjoyed bird hunting, stock car racing, Jaguar restoration, motorcycling, and playing golf. He was also a licensed pilot. And to quote him, "I've had a great life!"Dale is survived by this wife of 70 years Mary Ellen, daughters Miekeleen Hart (Jim), Christina Luebe (Doug) and son Kirk; step-son Ted ( Jenny) Koerth, step-daughter Amanda (Ian) Areces; 4 grandchildren Ben Brickett, Lauren Brickett, Sam Brickett and Nathan Turnmire, and 5 step-grandchildren Samantha and Alexandra Koerth, Edward, Eleanor and Ellis Areces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clark and Luverne Turnmire; a stillborn son; his in-laws Thomas and Ellen Daly; brother-in-law Jim Daly and sister-in-law Bev Daly. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Cresco Chamber of Commerce, CRICCET Statue Fund, the CUSB- CRICCET Statue Fund or the Cresco Fitness Center.Show more
