Allen Mckeel - 21
February 14, 2019
Goldsboro, NC
Allen Daniel McKeel, 38, passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at his home. Allen was born in Wayne County on December 21, 1980 to Lovie Powell McKeel of Goldsboro and the late Rev. Eddie McKeel. Allen was a miracle and a blessing from the moment he was born. He shaped lives of family, friends and random strangers in ways that made them into better people. Despite his own disabilities he was always eager to help others. His smile was like sunshine. His eyes sparkled with light. A quiet touch on your arm let you know he was there. His words were a constant reminder that he always thought of loved ones. Though he is no longer with us in body, Allen will never leave our hearts, minds or spirits. Allen enjoyed the simple pleasures of life which included watching movies and bowling with his family as well as field trips and playing in the pool. Above all, he will be remembered by many for his love of the ladies. The family intends to honor Allen by making certain that the joyful spirit and laughter in this family returns in full force. They understand that this effort will require time and the help of their extended family and many dear and wonderful friends. The family finds hope in the fact that, though Allen was surrounded by love in his life, he is now reunited with his daddy and is experiencing the perfect love of our Lord, Jesus Christ. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 17, 2019 from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. at The Pikeville Church followed by a service to celebrate Allen's life at 4:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. A private interment for the family will be held in the Pikeville Cemetery. Allen is survived by his mother, Lovie Powell McKeel; sister, Lindsey McKeel Haithcock and husband, Robert "Dub" of Goldsboro; paternal grandparents, Ralph Edward McKeel and Nancy Williams McKeel of Goldsboro; aunts and uncles, Cindy and Richard Lancaster, John and Carolyn Powell, and Christia Smith; and his cousins. He is also survived by his special caregiver and friend of 26 years, Leatrice Woodard. In addition to his father, Allen was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John D. Powell and Margaret Sasser Powell and cousin, Tyler Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the Edgewood Developmental School (where Allen attended until age 21), 1601 Peachtree Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
