William Domm

William Domm

Age - 85

November 27, 2023

William A. Domm, aged 85, at rest November 17, 2023. Devoted husband of Kathleen for 49 years. Raised in Hyde Park, Bill was a graduate of Beloit College and Northwestern University School of Law. He joined Defrees and Fiske, where he met his future wife, working cases for six years while also doing volunteer legal work for the Church Federation of Chicago and becoming a member of the Chicago Association of Commerce and Industry. Bill spent the next 15 years with International Harvester Co. starting in the law dept. , later shifting to work in various areas of human resources, including labor relations and compensation. He was the president of the Harvester Club and a member of the Conference Board Committee on International Compensation. Bill and Kathy moved to Boston in 1985 when he took a job at Sprague Electric, where he was instrumental in overhauling employee benefit plans as the Director of Compensation and Benefits. In 1987, they returned to the Chicago area, and Bill engaged in his local community as a participant in intellectual discussion groups at the library; and through the senior center, coached and taught computer classes, was an officer of the men's club, and scheduled bread deliveries to food pantries. Bill doted on Kathy, helped to bring up his stepdaughters, generously teaching and sharing so much with them, further passing along nuggets of knowledge to his sons-in-law and especially-treasured grandson of whom he was so proud. He experienced many diverse activities and interests in life, living it to the fullest, from traveling and hosting gourmet and family dinner gatherings with Kathy, fishing, and photography to appreciating nature and crewing in sailing's Race to Mackinac. He was a D-I-Yer before it became trendy: he single-handedly bent planks and refinished a vintage wooden speedboat; laid a 103-brick patio in 100-degree weather and built dozens of custom window screens by hand. He was a hardworking handyman at home and at the end of the day, transformed from self-proclaimed "Basement Billy" to "Beautiful Billy. "He was forever reading, and enjoyed a turn on the dance floor, as well as many genres of music from Lead Belly, Howlin' Wolf's blues, Odetta, and the jazz greats, to Richie Havens, Johnny Cash, Woody, Waylon, and Willie. He had a passion for race cars, car shows and a good joke. He had a unique sense of humor, always looking to get a rise out of others. He worked hard at staying in touch with the many friends he surrounded himself with over the years. Bill will be dearly missed by his family. Survived by his beloved wife, Kathy; stepdaughters, Jacki and Sherri; sons-in-law, Ben and Kory; grandson, Jack; sister-in-law, Ellen; nephews, Kevin and Sean and their families; cousins and other extended family. David Taylor

David Taylor

Age - 87

November 25, 2023

David "G-Sizz" Taylor - husband, father, grandfather, prankster, salesman, artist, handyman, Wompweasel-slayer, and dearly loved friend - passed away on November 19th at 87. He leaves behind a loving wife, two children, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a prodigious collection of flannel shirts. Dave was a model citizen in his youth. Specifically, a model of how to get into trouble and not get caught a whole lot. He and his brothers (called Storm, Strife, and Turmoil by their justifiably stressed parents) would pass the time the traditionally way--using old WW2 parachutes to jump out of third-story windows, stealing friends' mattresses, and diverting traffic through hoity-toity neighborhood driveways. When Dave decided to take his occasional breaks from mischief, he accomplished some pretty spectacular things. He graduated from Williams College and earned his MBA at Northwestern, where he also managed to meet the love of his life, Scotty (Scotty will proudly tell you she stole him away from some other floozy). Through sheer hard work, grit, and a single visit to the office to ask for a job, Dave began a long and successful career at Xerox, where he notably dropped off printers to Jimmy Hoffa's hotel room (suspicious, Dave). Some of Dave's greatest achievements had nothing to do with printer-peddling or infamous teamsters; he and Scotty raised two beautiful daughters, Laurie and Betsey, who would grow up listening to stories of Dave's amazing (and occasionally embellished) escapades. He built the family's own slice of heaven on Canandaigua Lake in Upstate New York, where children, grandchildren and friends would gather for generously-portioned burgers fresh off the grill. Even in his later years, Dave never stopped adding notches to his belt--taking up painting after retirement, successfully campaigning for two great grandchildren, and even single-handedly defeating a Samburu Warrior (at cards). If we were to share every story worth sharing about Dave, this may be the longest obituary ever written. Instead, we ask all who knew and loved Dave to share a story the way he would have--around a table with people you love, over a glass of inexplicably terrible wine.Show more
