Allen Cottle Obituary

"Allen Brian Cottle, age 72, of Pickford, Michigan, died at the MyMichigan Medical Center in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on October 3, 2023. He was born in Sault Ste. Marie on February 19, 1951, to Russell Alexander and Delores Elener (Allen) Cottle. Allen was raised in Pickford on the Cottle Family farm and graduated with the Pickford High School class of 1969. After graduating, he went to work at the Pickford Co-Op and then at the Michigan Limestone Quarry, where he worked for over 35 years. He met Patricia Freeman, and they were married on August 19, 1972, at the United Methodist Church in Pickford. After retiring, he worked as a sexton for Cottle Cemetery in Pickford for seven years but was involved there for over 40 years. Allen was a member of the Pickford Global Methodist Church, the Straits Area Snowmobile Club, and was as a board member for the Sault Area Snowmobile Association where he helped repair equipment and groomed trails. Allen was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed deer hunting, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, attending cattle and farm auctions, working on engines, camping, and eating out. He could always be found farming after taking over his father's farm. He loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and his cat, Midnight. Allen is survived by his wife, Patricia Cottle of Pickford; son, Michael (Deanna) Cottle of Attica, Michigan; daughter, Jennifer (Justin) Peterman of Rudyard, Michigan; grandchildren, Hunter (girlfriend, Becca Leask) Peterman, Alexa Peterman, Saundra Cottle, and Shelby Cottle; sisters, Cheryl (Edward) Cate of Newark, Texas, Dana (Les) Beyer of Zeeland, Michigan, and Lisa Crawford of Lake, Michigan; and sister-in-law, Alicia Cottle of Sault Ste. Marie. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Delores; brother, Martin Cottle; and brother-in-law, Jeff Crawford. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a Memorial Service at 12:00 PM, at Galer Funeral Homes, 24549 S. M-129, Pickford, Michigan 49774. A luncheon will immediately follow at the Pickford Global Methodist Church. Final Resting Place will be at the Cottle Cemetery in Pickford, Michigan.
