Alice Morene Ayers Massengill, "Ms. Morene," slipped away quietly into the arms of Jesus early on the morning of February 14, 2019. She was 96 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Silas Edward Massengill, of Harrogate, TN. He was an engine mechanic for Delta Air Lines from 1945 to 1979. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Daniel Ayers, formally of Hampton, GA. Ms. Morene is survived by her 3 children, daughter, Mary Massengill; son, Wayne Massengill and his wife Sharen, and son, Wade Massengill and his wife Kathy; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Ms. Morene was widely known and loved by the people of McDonough, GA as the proprietor of "Ms. Morene's" collectible doll shop located on the square in McDonough. She operated the unique shop for 34 years beginning in 1984. Ms. Morene was an elementary school teacher in Clayton County. She was on staff at Tara Elementary the day the school opened and remained there 32 years, finishing 4 more years at Anderson Elementary, before retiring at age 75. She obtained her Bachelor of Education and Masters of Education degrees at Oglethorpe University. She would proudly tell you she was valedictorian of Carnesville High School, class of 1938. A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Sherwood Memorial Park, Jonesboro, with Rev. Ken Helms officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 15, 2019 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville.
