Carolyn Hilbig

Aug 05, 1940 - Feb 02, 2024

location-icon

Powder Springs, GA

"Carolyn Hilbig went to be with the Lord and her heavenly family on February 2, 2024. She was a long-time resident of Cobb County and a member of Roswell Street Baptist Church, where she recommitted her faith via a second baptism. Carolyn was born August 5, 1940 in Conroe, Texas. Her parents, who are deceased, were Arthur Hilbig and Zella Hilbig. Carolyn was the eldest of her siblings and throughout the majority of her life assumed a leadership position within the family. Her hometown was Bristol, Virginia, where she attained her primary education (first grade through the 12th) and acquired conservative values that would sustain her throughout her life’s journey. She graduated from Georgia State University with a BBA degree, majoring in accounting. Carolyn was an auditor with the U.S. Department of Agricultural, and was recognized many times for her excellent work. When she retired, coworkers wrote memories about how detailed and exact her work product was. Carolyn was faithful, loyal, generous and honest with her friends and family. Family was important to her and she enjoyed celebrating birthdays, holidays and special events. Carolyn expressed her creativity by sewing, baking, creating special meals and working in the flower garden. Her greatest love was shopping. When internet shopping became popular a “big package” of clothing would land on Carolyn’s porch about every other week. Shoes were her weakness. Even when she ran out of space for new clothing, she continued to shop. During her travels as an auditor, she would often laugh about occasions when the other auditors with whom she was travelling would stay at an historic hotel while she stayed at a Comfort Inn because it was close to a major shopping center. She did love good bargains. Carolyn loved to travel and took many trips. After retiring she decided to buy a Pomeranian (named Chloe) that travelled with her – both out of town and local trips. She and Chloe were always going somewhere and they both loved the adventures. Carolyn was an excellent pet owner and made sure Chloe had the best care. When Chloe passed away in 2023, Carolyn continued to miss her - up to her own death. Carolyn is survived by two sisters, Frances Hilbig and Brenda Hilbig, a brother, Fred Hilbig and his wife Joyce Hilbig, a nephew, Shawn Hilbig, a niece, Stephanie Boling, and three cousins who live in Texas – JoAnn Rogers, Dorothy Trimble and Gary Harris, including others not mentioned here. Carolyn is loved and honored by her family and will always be remembered as someone who had a sense of humor, a “big” laugh and a “big” heart. Carolyn will have a private service at 2 PM on February 8, 2024, at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home. Following the service, she will be interred at Kennesaw Memorial Park in the Serenity Garden. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you consider a donation to the WellStar Foundation, a non-profit, located at 1800 Parkway Place, Marietta, GA 30067."
