Raymond "Ray J" Johnson, 85, finished his earthly course on Saturday, February 17, 2024. Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Old West Enrichment Center, with burial following in the Tallahassee National Cemetery. Viewing is 4-6 p.m. Thursday (Today) at TILLMAN OF TALLAHASSEE (850-942-1950). A 1959 graduate of the original Lincoln High School, Mr. Johnson was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was the State of Florida's First Black Driver's License Examiner. He retired after more than 30 years of dedicated service. He was active in Prison Ministry, organic gardening and was a professional fly fisherman. His love and legacy will live on forever in the hearts of his wife of 58 years, Mattie Attwell Johnson; daughters: Tonya Johnson and Ramona (Roosevelt Jr.) Lanier; sons: Jason and Derek (Ciara) Johnson; grandchildren: Chauncey and Jaden Lanier and Derek Jr. and Deionte Johnson; sisters: Winifred McClenton, Rebecca Johnson, Theresa Duval, Pauline Cotton, Kathy Williams and Phyllis (John) Henry; and a host of other relatives and friends. Leverne Franklin Payne, 82, of Tallahassee passed at home on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. Funeral services are private. TILLMAN OF TALLAHASSEE (850-942-1950) is serving the Payne family. A Tallahassee native, Mr. Payne was a 1959 graduate of FAMU DRS High School. He had served in the U.S. Army as an enlistee from 1961 until 1963. He then returned to College and earned his undergraduate degree from FAMU. He was the retired Director of the City of Tallahassee's 4th Avenue Recreation Center, which was named in his honor. Leverne was also a lifelong member of Bethel AME Church and a devoted Community Activist. He served for years as Soul Santa and as an advocate for the disenfranchised. Survivors include his loving wife, Nellie Johnson Payne, children and grandchildren; brother, John (Marge) Payne, Jr.; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Clyde Williams, 64, who was well-known in the Food Service Industry passed in Tallahassee on Sunday, February 11, 2024. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh M.B. Church, Greenville, with burial in New Zion Cemetery. A Wake will be held Friday (Tomorrow) 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Bethel AME Church, Tallahassee. He worked at Florida Plywood before moving to Tallahassee where he began a long career in Food Service. He worked at Florida A&M's Dining Service, FAMU DRS Cafeteria and catered for years with caterers, Thad Fortune and Rev. James Williams. Most recently, Clyde was a Bus Assistant for Leon County Schools. He was a longtime member and usher at Allen Temple CME Church. Clyde was best known for his kind and giving spirit. Survivors include his nephew who was like a son, Keith Thomas; siblings: Diane (Carlton) Sheffield, Geneva (Keith) Thomas, Sr. and Katie (Patrick) Hodge, Johnny (Nell), Willie (Mary), John Wayne ( Lynn), Jimmy (Shirley), Reverend Larry, Tyrone (Christia) and Wilbert Williams, Henry (Gloria) and Larry (Nell) Reaves, Valerie McCray and Betty Jean Miller; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Steven N. Mann, Sr., 80 years of age of Tallahassee Florida. Steven passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024 in his residence. Steven was born March 4, 1943, in Reidsville, Georgia. Steven was predeceased by his parents John M. Mann and Helen Poston Mann, his brother John Michael Mann and his wife of 44 years Doris (Dot) Ward Mann. He is survived by his children Regina Smith (Ben) and Steven Mann Jr. (Teri) and six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Steven graduated from Jefferson County High School in Monticello, Florida. He worked at NCR for 31 years as well as the Jefferson County Kennel Club (JCKC) in Monticello, Florida for 25+ years. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no service and in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee, FL.

Sara Wentworth Crane, 72, passed away at home in Tallahassee, FL, on February 18, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. Sara, the daughter of Winifred Lane Wentworth and Aubrey Dean Wentworth, was born in Tallahassee, FL, on November 24, 1951. After attending Tallahassee schools, she graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago with a B.S. in Engineering Physics, also receiving her M.S. and Ph.D.. Sara worked as a research scientist for Standard Oil and as a patent examiner in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, in the DC area. She completed her J.D. degree at Georgetown University. In addition to pursuing her professional interests in physics, engineering, and law, Sara enjoyed playing guitar, composing music, studying and practicing Buddhism, and reading widely in subjects ranging from astronomy to economics. Sara loved exploring nature through hiking, canoeing, and was an avid bird watcher. Sara was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her brothers Chris, of Crete, NE; Dan, of Canada, and Ben, of Tallahassee; her nephews, Brendan, of Ridgway, CO, and Max, of Tallahassee; and her niece, Maira, of Centennial, WY. She will be remembered and missed.
