She was a woman of faith who loved to attend mass regularly and religious retreats with her sisters whenever she could. Brenda Belcon

Age - 88

Brenda Janet Belcon departed this life on Friday, December 1, 2023. Affectionately known as Ms. Brenda, she was the baby sister to May (previously deceased) and Norma, born on March 24, 1935, in Kingston, St. Vincent. Ms. Brenda was the loving wife of Ivan Belcon (previously deceased) and mother of six. Growing up in St. Vincent she lived near the sea and had the enjoyment of bathing in the sea water daily. As a young woman she traveled to Trinidad where she met the love of her life and they started their lives together. In September of 1968 she and her husband emigrated to America with all their children, the youngest of which was under a year old at the time. Originally, she lived in Brooklyn and later moved to Jamaica, Queens. There she laid down roots and became the strong matriarch we know her to be. During her many years as the neighborhood babysitter, she became a surrogate mother to many. Ms. Brenda was fiery, strong-willed, intelligent, a talented visual artist, sharp witted, and a generous soul. As a lover of baseball, she was a huge Yankees fan. Ms. Brenda's favorite literary tale was "Pride and Prejudice," and she watched every adaptation. Baking and talking with friends were comforts to her. Being strong in her faith she was a dedicated parishioner to St. Stephen's for over 25 years. During her time with the church, she developed strong friendships with other parishioners like Ms. Garraway, Ms. Chase and Ms. Cheryl, just to name a few. As a testament to her personality, she kept regular contact and communication with her former daughters and son-in-law. Ms. Brenda is survived by her children: Ian, Rosemarie, Ricardo, Natalie, Wendy, Sharon, her nephew Garfield, her son-in-law Chris and her daughter-in-law Joanne. Her legacy continues through her ten grandchildren: Akua, Kevin, Shawn, Paul, Kofi, Akira, Andrew, Imani, Brandon, and Iansen. That legacy also includes her eight great-grandchildren: Nzingha, Jaylen, Casey, Nayana, Journey, Destiny, Nkosi, and Ermias. She will also be kept alive in the hearts and minds of all her friends and family from Trinidad, St. Vincent, and here in the states. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to all extended family and close friends who have gathered to show support during this difficult time. Though our hearts bear the weight of loss, we find comfort in the overwhelming display of love from those around us.Show more
