Grandma has been taken to be with Jesus on October 30, 2023, at the age of 105. Her final hours were peaceful and spent with family by her side. In the last 12 years, her days were increasingly beleaguered by Dementia; however, the disease also released her from the heavy emotions of prior disquieting life events, allowing her freedom to enjoy family, friends, and activities. Grandma was raised on the family farm off of Route 30 in Montgomery and lived the traditional life of a homemaker in her adult years. She embroidered many many pillowcases and table runners and darned an untold number of socks! Though, by far, her favorite needlework was making doilies and crocheting afghans for her grandchildren. Grandma highly prized her family's ancestry and heritage. Her great great grandfather came to the area in 1840 in covered wagons with his 12 grown children and their families. At that time there was no town, only prairie grass. They settled in the area that is now Route 30 and Orchard Road and tamed the land, often interacting with the native Indians. Along with the family of Daniel Gray, they were the co-founders of the Village of Montgomery: establishing a post office, school, church, and many local business. The village was named after the area from which they had come: Montgomery County, PA. Grandma had special memories of her older brother, Willie, who served our country in WWI and named her via letter from his overseas station. Sadly, he did not return home from the war. So many things she has seen in 105 years; and, she was both stubborn about the old and curious of the "new". Grandma also enjoyed her prized roses, flower and vegetable gardening, bingo, crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, and reading the daily Beacon News. She was preceeded in death by her parents Edward C. and (Wilhemina) E. Minnie (Carpenter) Davis; 4 siblings, and their children; her oldest son, John Paul, who served in the Korean War; her husband, Albert Wayne; who served as a Hostetler in WWI; her son, Albert Walter; great granddaughter, Danielle (Wolf); and special friend Ruth I. Shadwell. She is survived by her youngest son, Thomas Elmer (Sharon) Wolf; her daughter-in-law, Judith (Hayes) Wolf; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; a devoted friend Glenna (Russell) Loeffel and beloved kitties Jasmin and Tiffany. 6 grandchildren, by age: Doug (Penny) Wolf and Branden; Lori Wolf; Michael (Christina) Wolf and Isabelle and Zachery; Bryan (Victoria) Wolf; Brad (Donna) Wolf and Michael (Jennifer) and, Bradley (Lauren) Wolf; and, Anita Wolf; great great grandchildren Jaden, Mikayla, Taylor, Avila, and Bradley. And by marriage, Nikki and Christopher; greats, Ryan and Kenneth; and, great greats Cody, Margaret, Vivian, Tristan, Emmett and Archer. Visitation will be Monday; November 6, 2023 from 10:30 to 11:30 am, service at 11:45 a. m. at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway Ave. , Montgomery, IL.
