Dayton E. Tuper, 92, of Fort Covington, N. Y. , passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the Alice Center in Malone, N. Y. Born on October 9, 1931 in North Bangor, he was the son of the late Ernest and Ida LaPage Tuper. On August 7, 1954, he was wed to the former Patricia Johnson at St. Mary's of the Fort Church in Fort Covington with Father Lauzon officiating. She predeceased Dayton on May 18, 2009. Dayton attended local school and then enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in Germany and France from 1950-1953. He then was employed as a Motor Equipment Operator at the Fort Covington Highway Department, retiring in 1994. He was a longtime communicant of St. Mary's of the Fort Church, a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus in Fort Covington, a member of the Massena AMVETS Post #4 and a proud member of the Fort Covington American Legion, Post #1418, where he had served as commander. He is survived by his sons: Edward (Stacy) Tuper of Omaha, Nebraska, Bruce (Linda) Tuper of Waterbury, CT. , Ronald (Lisa) Tuper of Vulontown, CT. , and Paul Tuper of Terryville, CT. , his daughters: Bonnie Beaudin of Fort Covington, Nancy (Marty) Almond of Burke, N. Y. , sons in law Howard Rockhill and Kenneth Rockhill, as well as many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brother Clayton, daughters Maxine Rockhill and Karen Rockhill, daughter in law Laura Tuper, granddaughter Melissa Brand and son in law Donald Beaudin. Calling Hours will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Constable, N. Y. on Tuesday, November 21 from 9 to 11 a. m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Bombay next to his beloved Patricia. Donations may be made in Dayton's memory to the Fort Covington American legion, Post # 1418 or the activities fund of the Alice Center. Sheila A. Dupuis, 82, of Malone, N. Y. , passed away on November 4, 2023. Born on August 7, 1941, in Malone, she was the daughter of the late Fredus and Kathryn Brady Lincoln. She worked in Retail at Fay's Drug Store and Eckerd's in Malone. She loved designing displays at the store for different functions and holidays. She was Past President of the American Legion Unit 219 Lady's Auxiliary. She started the Flag Program which introduced children to the history of the flag and its meaning. She was proud to support Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day and Poppy Day to honor those who served in our military. For all of her efforts she has received "Woman of the Year" by Unit 219. Sheila loved volunteering at the House of history, where she gave tours for students learning the history of the area. She was predeceased by her husband Sandy Dupuis and her brother Wayne Lincoln. She is survived by her son Randy (Kristin) Wood of Malone and her grandchildren: Nolan and Porter Wood. Calling hours will be held from 10-12:30 on Friday, November 10 at Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. Diana M. Prairie, 82, of Malone, N. Y. , passed away on October 23, 2023. Born in Malone to the late Edward and Priscilla Jones Burdash, she worked for Malone Central School District for thirty-one years, at Lamberton, Malone Middle School and the Pre-K program. She was a member of the former St. John Bosco Church, and loved to read, travel, and spend time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her sons: Ricky Hutchins of Largo, FL. , Jeff (Julie) Hutchins of Malone, her daughters: Tammy Jean Hutchins of Malone and Gail Marie (Douglas) Benuska of Naperville, IL. , step children: Pamela (David) Bilow of Malone, Marc Prairie of Malone and Keith (Andrea) Prairie of Mechanicville, N. Y. , grandchildren: Jamie Dustin, Justin Hutchins, Jenna Hutchins, Ricky Hutchins, Jr. , Zack Hutchins, Cory Hutchins, Ryan Benuska, Taylor Benuska, several step Grandchildren, her great Grandchildren: Kaylie Dustin, Evan Hutchins and Rachel Hutchins, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her siblings: Maruice Burdash, Donald Burdash, Gene Burdash, Rita Lamica, Gen Roscoe, Marion Boyea, Ethel Spinner, Betty Henderson and Leona Jarvis, her first husband Alfred Hutchins and her second husband Ross Prairie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Diana at noon on Tuesday, October 31st at Notre Dame Church, with burial to follow in St. John Bosco Cemetery. Rhoda Snedeker Gough, 100, passed away on October 14, 2023. Rhoda was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, but lived most of her life in Trenton, N. J. She was the daughter of the late Mary and Frank Smallwood and had two sisters, Ruth and Marion, and a brother Frank. In 1945, she married her childhood sweetheart Irv Snedeker and had two children, Joan, and Donald. After Irv's death in 1969, she married Robert Gough in 1974 and with him toured the world. Rhoda worked several jobs over the years but found her true love working with preschool children at William Penn School in Pennsylvania for 30 years, retiring at age 80. At this time Robert had passed away and in 2003 she moved to the North Country to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She was predeceased by her son Don of Costa Rica. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Joan and Roy Mazzacano, a granddaughter and her husband Heather and Carter Eldridge and their children Wilton, Grant, and Elise. Also, a grandson Stefan of Costa Rica and his mother Evelyn. She is also survived by a stepdaughter and her husband Claire and David Hoffert of PA. , two step grandchildren Lindsay (and husband Michael) and Glenn (and wife Heather) and four step great grandchildren: Matthew & Brad Hoffert and Christine and Patrick Carney. Rhoda was a member of the Golden Age Club, Malone Garden Club, and Chasm Falls United Methodist Church. She was also a great fan of the Wead Library and spent many afternoons in the reading room. Carl A Bashaw Sr. , 86, of Chasm Falls, New York, passed away on October 4, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Born in Owls Head, New York on October 1, 1937, he was the son of the late Levi and Clara Johnson Bashaw. He attended school in Owls Head. On November 15, 1958, he was married to Karlyn E. Lamb at Notre Dame Church in Malone by Rev George Lemieux. She predeceased him on October 6, 2011, after 52 years of marriage. He retired from the New York State Department of Transportation after 30 years of employment. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, gardening, and snowmobiling and continued cutting his own firewood right up until this past spring. He was always happy to lend a helping hand and spent years building trails in the woods for his family to enjoy and could often be found giving his grandchildren and great grandchildren rides on the ATVs and snow sleds. He was never happier than when all of his family was gathered together, and he especially looked forward to the weekly family brunches at his home after Sunday mass. He is survived by three sons, Carl and his wife Vicky, Craig and his companion Lisa Cook, and Chris Bashaw all of Owls Head, daughter Cathie and husband TC Morton of Wassaic, NY, granddaughters Heather Bashaw and husband John Koerner of Buffalo, NY, Bethany and Chris Taylor of Moira, NY, Cailyn Bashaw and her companion Doug Geraghty of Stamford, CT, Leighann Bashaw of Plattsburgh, NY, Melissa Bashaw of Malone, NY, Sofie Morton of Wassaic, NY and grandson Nolan Morton of Wassaic, NY. He is also survived by six great grandchildren, Tyler, Raelynn, and Lillian Taylor of Moira, NY, Macen Bashaw of Owls Head, NY, and Anna and Grant Koerner of Buffalo, NY. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Betty Larche of Massena, NY and by brothers and sisters-in-law Nathalie Symonds, David and Nora Holmes, John and Renee Holmes, and Nellie Holmes. Mr. Bashaw was predeceased by seven brothers, Gerald, Arley, Kenneth, Vernon, Lloyd, Donald, and Allen Bashaw as well as two sisters, Eileen and Carolyn Bashaw. Calling hours will be held from 9-11 a. m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral home in Malone on Monday, October 9. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon at St. Helen's Church in Chasm Falls.
