November 6, 2023

James J. Frost, 72, went to be with the Lord on October 31, 2023 with his family at his side. He was surrounded in his final days by his wife, daughters, brothers, sister, and nieces. Jim was born March 26, 1951 in Almont, Michigan and raised in Leonard, Michigan. Jim raised his family with the love of his life Beth in Lapeer, Michigan. He worked as a precision machinist during his career. Jim was an amazingly loving husband and father. He went above and beyond to serve "his girls" in any way he could. He was the "fun uncle" with his nieces and nephews recounting stories of how he made each of their childhoods special. His silliness and sense of humor were always sure light up gatherings. Illness marked a long period at the end of Jim's life and yet he persevered with grit, humility, and a fun-loving spirit. Jim enjoyed cards and spent many evenings around a card table laughing with family. He also enjoyed fishing and shooting. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Helen (Beth), and their children: Theresa (Curtis) Maxwell and Carrie Hovis (Patrick Krozek); and grandchildren Ryan Maxwell, Jennifer Maxwell, and Madilyn Krozek. Norma Swanborough

Norma Swanborough

Age - 81

October 31, 2023

Norma Jean Swanborough, 81,passed away on October 25, 2023 with family at her side as she left this world to enter her long-anticipated home in heaven. She and husband, Dr. Allan Swanborough spent her final years near family in Almont, Michigan. She was truly the best mother in the world, and has friends from across the world that felt her mother's kind of love even as friends. It is so hard to capture one so dynamic in these words, so it will be hard to convey the real Norma in the following. Born July 29, 1946 in LaPorte, Indiana, and raised in South Bend, Indiana, Norma (nicknamed Penny by her Midwestern family) moved to California where she worked in reservations for Delta Airlines and met Allan at Hollywood Presbyterian in the young adults' group. They moved their young family to Brush Prairie, Washington and then McMinnville, Oregon for the majority of their lives. Norma is survived by her loving husband of 52 years Allan, and their children:Jennifer (David) Hricik, Julie (Bill) King, Jeffrey (Tracy) Swanborough; and her beloved grandchildren, Courtney (Parker) Hossler, Sydney King, Lily King, Lachlan Swanborough, Casey King, Peter Swanborough, Calem King, and Adam Swanborough. She was preceded in death by her parents Norman Eugene Hatfield and Pauline Hatfield. Norma's family felt her love through and through, and we all saw her pure delight as she showered love on her grandchildren. Each one of them was cherished through special songs that she sang just for them and she was sure to share many photos of them with you via her Christmas newsletter or Shutterfly mugs or albums she was known to gift. If you knew Norma, you knew two things for sure. . . she cared about you, and she loved Jesus and wanted you to know His love as well. She in turn was loved for her bubbly personality and sense of humor-even to the end she was remarkable despite the effects of illness-as she knew how to kid with her family and caregivers which she knew by name--especially if it was a nickname she'd given them. While Norma loved nothing better than to catch up with friends and family with a cup of tea and a conversation, she was also a woman of action. She viewed every job she had as an outreach for people--be it solving a plane reservation, leading the volunteer program at Valley Presbyterian Hospital (CA), selling Mary Kay, a number of administrative assistant roles, serving students at George Fox University, and members at Amity Baptist Church. And, so many more musical, ministry, volunteer, and civic pursuits. Join us in celebrating Norma's life by sharing God's love with another. Honor her love for children by giving a gift in her memory where she shared her time, talent and treasure to Operation Christmas Child | Shoe box Outreach (also consider packing a box as you remember her vibrant life) or Child Evangelism Fellowship at Mid-Thumb CEF, P. O. Box 314, Lapeer MI 48446. Condolences can be sent to family c/o the King Family, PO Box 673, Almont, MI 48003. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 (appropriately All Saints Day) at First Congregational Church of Almont: Independent Evangelical, 201 E. St. Clair, Almont, Michigan at 2:00p. m. with refreshments immediately following at the church. The service will be recorded for family in Australia and live-streaming will be via the church's Facebook site at First Congregational Church of Almont. Burial will take place thereafter at Amity Cemetery in Amity, Oregon at a date and time yet to be determined.Show more

Elizabeth Toth

Elizabeth Toth

Age - 85

October 23, 2023

"Elizabeth Ann Toth passed away on October 18, 2023 in Romeo, Michigan at the age of 85. Betty graduated from Highland Park High School in 1956 and subsequently graduated from the Medical Office Assistant Course from Highland Park Junior College. She then worked for the dermatology office of Dr. Nelgadae Chisa in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Betty married the love of her life, John Roger Toth, on September 30, 1967 at the Mary Martha Chapel at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan. John & Betty eventually moved to Sterling Heights, Michigan which was where they started their family and raised two daughters, Lisa and Jennifer. Sadly, in 1989 at the young age of 54, John passed away after a two-year battle with bone cancer. Betty continued to raise their daughters (then 18 & 14) on her own, never interested in dating or remarrying. She often said that "there was no one better than John, so why should I bother looking. " Betty was a devout Christian and a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Troy, Michigan. She relied on her faith and supportive family and friends to continue on after John's passing. She was also the "second Mom" to many of Lisa and Jennifer's friends, generously providing them with food, a place to stay, love and support. Betty had a selfless servant's heart, prioritizing the care and needs of others ahead of herself, and throughout her lifetime was a caregiver to her husband, children, grandchildren, mother, sister Mae, and "older sister" to her nephew Mark. Betty loved to spend time with family, travel, listen to 80's music, especially Bon Jovi and Tina Turner, and enjoyed seeing musicals and plays at the theatre. Unfortunately, in her golden years, she was afflicted with dementia, which was a 7-year-long journey. Betty had such a positive impact on everyone she encountered, even during the latter years of her life. She was sassy, feisty, funny, and quick to give you a "love tap" on your rear end. Despite the disease and even amidst her cognitive decline, she still gave the best all-enveloping hugs and loved to show physical affection. Lisa and Jennifer would like their Mom to be remembered for her faith in Jesus Christ and her unconditional love of family and friends. She will be deeply missed by her daughters, family and friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Her daughters would also like to thank the compassionate and caring staff at Orchard Grove Senior Living Health Campus and Heart to Heart Hospice for taking care of our Mom for the last 6 1/2 years of her life. If you wish to make a donation in Betty's memory, the family suggests The Alzheimer's Association or Heart to Heart Hospice. Visitation at the Wasik Funeral Home, Inc. 49150 Schoenherr Road (N. of 22 Mile Road) Shelby Township, Tuesday, October 24, 2023 2:00 p. m. - 8:00 p. m. with funeral service at 6:30 p. m. Memorial contributions maybe made to the Alzheimer's Association or Heart to Heart Hospice. "Show more
