Addie Edwards Norton, 100 of Madison, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2023. She was at her home, surrounded by her daughters. Mrs. Norton was born February 12, 1923 in Atlanta to Frank and Eva Edwards. She was a graduate of Girl's High School in Atlanta. She met Richard A. Norton at the Atlanta Ordinance Depot during WWII. They married on January 20, 1945 at Kirkwood Baptist Church in Atlanta before he shipped to Italy in March. Mrs. Norton was a dedicated member of Madison Baptist Church having served in many capacities. These included Superintendent of the Primary Department, Bible School worker, church secretary and church clerk. She was also active in the Women's Missionary Union and the Joy Homemakers Sunday School Class for many years. Mrs. Norton was retired from the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. She was best known as an ace tennis player, having competed in both ALTA and USTA into her 80's. She also enjoyed traveling, reading and gardening. Addie Norton was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Eva Edwards and the love of her life, Richard Norton. She is survived by her daughters: Judy Reid (Robert), Joan Johnson (Charles) and Nancy Parker (Terry)and grandchildren: Richard Reid, Nicole Busby, Kelly Chatfield, Karen Osterhoudt, Zack Parker, Erin Parker, Travis Reid and 11 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at A. E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 13 at 1:00 PM at Madison Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Madison Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be: Richard Reid, Zackary Parker, Josh Osterhoudt, Chad Chatfield, Anthony Parise, Mark Busby, Travis Reid and Alden Reid.

"Barbara Ann Rymer Greene, a remarkable and warm-hearted woman, passed away on November 18, 2023, in Madison, Georgia. She dedicated her entire life to serving others, embodying an extraordinary kindness and generosity. Barbara was born on June 1, 1939, in Morristown, Tennessee and graduated from Morristown High School in 1957. That same year, she married her high school sweetheart, and they welcomed their son Tim into the world in 1959. The family made the move to Atlanta in 1971. Barbara spent an impressive 36 years employed at P. S. P. A. , later known as SmithKline Beecham and Quest Diagnostics, where she excelled as an account manager until her retirement in 2009. Living alongside her dear friend Kathy Edwards for over forty years, Barbara was truly honored to be considered a member of the large and loving Edwards family. She was a devoted daughter who cared for her parents, as well as many family members and any friend or stranger who ever needed her. Barbara frequently volunteered her time at church and nursing homes. Seeing an unfortunate disability as an opportunity to help others, Barbara gave of herself unselfishly by participating in the decade long comprehensive Alzheimer\u0027s study at the Marshall L. Nash neurology research center in Decatur, Georgia. In her leisure time, Barbara enjoyed spending time with her son, Tim, and daughter-in-law, Melinda, her granddaughter and great granddaughters, traveling, NASCAR, going to the movies, and passionately cheering on her Tennessee Volunteers with her beloved brother, Larry Rymer, and his wife, Kathy. Barbara was thrilled to claim first place in her age group (over 75) in the Kimberley Chance Atkins 5k race in Conyers, Georgia. With a perpetual smile on her face, Barbara radiated positive energy and love wherever she went. Her absence leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed. Barbara was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church in Conyers, Georgia and Madison First United Methodist Church in Madison, Georgia. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Zella and Carl Rymer, as well as her sister, Pat Rymer Surrette. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Melinda Greene of Oldsmar, FL; her brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Kathy Rymer of Morristown, TN; her dear friend, Kathy Edwards of Madison, GA; her granddaughter, Bailey Andrews, and her husband, Taison; and her great-granddaughters, Sway and Aria of Dallas, GA. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday January 20, 2024, at 2:00PM at Scot Ward Chapel with Rev. Zack Martin officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Those that are unable to attend can join a Zoom link. Edith Bien Thomas, 95, entered into the kingdom of Heaven on October 15, 2023. She was born in Ruxton Maryland to Frederick W. and Bessie Leigh Bien. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Hadley Thomas, Jr, her daughter, Olevia Leigh Wahl and brother, Thomas Leigh Bien. Mrs. Thomas will be greatly missed by her surviving son, Harry Hadley Thomas, III, her nephew Thomas Leigh Bien, Jr (Connie) and niece Rebecca Bien Sullivan (Bill). She is also survived by her great nephews Thomas Leigh Bien III and Nicholas Leigh Sullivan; great nieces Tara Elyn Sullivan Giles and Julia Elliott Bien; and seven great nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat, Lovie. Edith graduated from Friends School in Baltimore; Randolph Macon Womens College with a bachelor's degree, and Emory University with a Master of Arts degree in Education. She taught at Stratford College and was a teacher and librarian for Dekalb County school for 29 years before retiring. She and her late husband were member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Watkinsville, GA. Edith was a teacher and mentor, thoughtful, caring giving, kind and a loving Christian lady. Laura Ivey Rowland of Madison passed away at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta on October 1, 2023 Laura was born September 19, 1954 to Andrew and Elizabeth Ivey She was a graduate of Morgan County High School and Georgia Military College (GMC) She met her husband, Jim while attending the GMC extension campus in Madison Laura was a member of the Madison Baptist Church, and she and her husband, Jim, were married there on December 12, 1998 Laura retired from Reynolds on Lake Oconee in 2021 According to Dave Short, Senior Vice President of Reynolds, Lake Oconee, "Laura served Reynolds tirelessly and faithfully for over 30 years After starting as a housekeeping manager in 1990, she followed that role with a tenure in events and event coordination where she always exceeded expectations, and never looked at the clock But her longest stretch came at the front desk for the real estate operation where she had custody over a 15 year stretch of literally dozens and dozens of real estate agents, no small task in and of itself, and one probably worthy of a combat infantry ribbon Additionally, Laura was, for literally thousands of customers, their first impression of Reynolds, very often on the phone but almost always as the first face that they saw when they showed up here from all over the world to take a closer look at Reynolds How very fortunate for them, and for Reynolds that this was the case Her warm greeting and cheerful countenance launched thousands of new relationships here Her legacy surrounds us all every day, and Reynolds is a better place for all that Laura did " She loved reading, cooking, gardening, and watching the birds, butterflies, and hummingbirds from the deck in her backyard Laura always maintained a wonderful, resilient spirit in spite of the many medical issues that she had to contend with in recent years Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Elizabeth Ivey She is survived by her husband, Jim, her sister, Andrea McCue (Del), her niece Julianne Boyle, and her nephew, Tracy McAllister In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to the AWARE Wildlife Center in Lithonia, Georgia A memorial service will be scheduled at a later dateShow more
