Adam C. Schmidt (Schmidty) shed his earthly burdens and entered into eternal rest the evening of September 17th, 2023, at his home, surrounded by family at the age of 91. Adam was born, along with his twin Eva "Evie" Schmidt, to Thomas & Marianna Schmidt (nee Leingang) in St. Anthony, North Dakota on May 30th, 1932. He was one of 14 siblings. The family moved to Renton, Washington, where Adam was proud to attend and graduate from O'Dea High School (Go Irish!) in 1950. He enlisted in the Air Force in April of 1952, where he served honorably as a radio operator for four years, and then cross trained as an air to air radar technician, until his retirement in 1974, with the rank of Master Sergeant. He met Elva Pfeiffer in South Dakota, where he was instantly smitten with her spirit, big brown eyes and tiny waist & she with the dashing young Air Force enlisted gentleman. They were married in 1954, and welcomed five children over the next 8 years. His military service took him, his wife and their children to Spain & Iceland, stateside duty assignments included South Dakota, Colorado, Oregon, South Carolina & North Dakota. The family has fond memories of piling into the family station wagon for camping trips, fishing, and road trips. Following retirement, he joined the United State Postal Service as their best electrician until he fully retired in 1994. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Mariana, son in law, Brian, siblings Philip, Tony, Ida, Juliana, Agnes, Bertha, Theodore, Ralph, Eva, Arnold, Robert, Kenneth, and his pet parakeet Mortimer (Mort). He leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, Elva Schmidt (nee Pfeiffer), his brother Thomas Schmidt (Patricia), his devoted children & their spouses Alan (Judy), Karla, Karen (Max) Mark (Cristy) & Kristie (Dan). Also mourning his passing are his Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren & their spouses/partners who adored him. Grandchildren: Kara (Phil), Aaron, Kelsey (Kyle), Ryan (Jessica), Kasey, Josh (Adi), Lauren (Zac), Sean, Carson, Jacob, Cora and Great-Grandchildren: Laura, Oliver, Lilyana, Adelaide & Damian. He loved the music of Hank Williams Sr. , flying remote control airplanes, his garden, a good seafood boil, the Seahawks, the Mariners, telling stories and spending time with his large, noisy family. Most of all, he loved his wife, Elva, his true North, who steadfastly and bravely loved, served and stayed by his side until and after his last breath. His last words were his love for her. His love language was acts of service. If you needed something fixed, sharpened, shored up, or just someone by your side, he was there before you could think to ask. He cooked amazing waffles and knew his way around a grill. He was proud of his military service, mechanical knowledge, progressive values, Catholic Faith, and his family that gathers, fights and celebrates like none other. His only wish was for more time. Funeral Mass will be celebrated October 18th, 11:00 am at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Sumner Washington, with prayer of the Rosary immediately preceding at 10:30. Military honors and interment will follow at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent Washington at 1:00 pm, followed by a reception hosted by St. Andrew Catholic Church at 2:30. We miss him terribly and take comfort that he is free of a body that aged far faster than his incredible, heart, spirit, and mind. Rest easy & well done, good and faithful servant of God, Country & Family.

Suzanne Sylvia Saunders Campbell passed away at her home surrounded by family and her beloved pet after an extended battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Saunders and Sylvia Saunders and her sister Evelyn Saunders Webb. She is survived by her brother Wayne Saunders, niece Stacy Saunders Hickman, great niece Molly Hickman, son Malcolm Scott Campbell, his wife Sandra Campbell and grandchildren Austin, Evan and Megan Campbell. She is also survived by her many friends and extended family. Suzanne was born in San Antonio, TX to Fred and Sylvia Saunders as their first child. Evelyn was born 15 months later and her brother Wayne 4 years after that. Growing up in San Antonio, Suzanne was close to her aunts, uncles and many cousins. The family enjoyed outings in the areas surrounding San Antonio and visits to families' homes. Suzanne moved with her husband Billy Campbell to Houston where they raised their son Malcolm through elementary school. Suzanne was a mother and student as she earned her nursing degree and then a working mom as she practiced nursing for the next 45 years. Her nursing career was practiced in many different disciplines across Texas, Idaho, and Washington. Suzanne enjoyed gardening, birds, hiking and the company of friends. She will be dearly missed and remembered by friends and family. A service will be held for Suzanne on Tuesday, December 5th at 1 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Snohomish, WA. In memory of Suzanne, a scholarship fund has been set up in her name to provide support for nursing students at Everett Community College. Alfred Matthews

Alfred Wollam Matthews, age 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, 20 November 2023 in Bellevue, Washington. Frank Sinatra's song, 'I did it my way' was Alfred Matthews' favorite song, saying, and philosophy. Al is survived by his natural children, Mike and Lee Matthews, two step-sons, John and Mark D'Amato, 5 grandchildren; Jennifer Carricut, Elizabeth Stenhouse, Cara Morici, Jessica Crosby, and Maia D'Amato and two great-grandchildren; Rhys Stenhouse and Olivia Morici. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Elizabeth Gilbert Matthews and former wife, Ellen Haines Matthews. He always loved and cared for his numerous pets throughout the years. He also fed neighborhood feral cats and had them spayed/neutered. He would go daily to local parks and feed the birds and squirrels. Al was born in NYC, NY, and spent most of his childhood living with his grandparents in his beloved town of Cape May, New Jersey. Later, when he looked back on his career, he used to tell us he wished he had become an attorney earlier and opened a practice in Cape May because he always wanted to be the Mayor of Cape May. He moved to Pennsylvania near Philadelphia to reunite with his parents and finish out high school. He played football in high school and college. After college, he joined ROTC and then became an Army Officer by entering active duty on 22 March 1952. He started his Army career in the Infantry, then became a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne and eventually became a military intelligence officer. He attended several schools; most notably, Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA for Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies, and Command and General Staff School in Leavenworth, Kansas. He fought in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Al's most notable assignments were Aide to BG Bergquist early in his career; Defense Attache' at the US Embassy in Yemen; and Commander, Military Intelligence in Munich, Germany. His numerous decorations included two Bronze Stars with Valor, National Defense Service, Legion of Merit and Army Commendation Medals. Alfred retired from the Army on 30 September 1976 and moved to the Pacific Northwest to pursue his law degree. He graduated from the University of Puget Sound and after passing the bar exam began his second career as a deputy prosecutor for the King County Prosecutor's Office. He had many major cases over his career, most notably as the lead prosecutor for the Green River killer, whose conviction he secured before retiring as Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney. After retiring from the King County Prosecutor's Office, Alfred spent many years as a Judge Pro Tem in Issaquah. After the passing of his wife, Bette in 2016, Alfred retired for good and moved to the Bellittini to enjoy his remaining years. In March 2023, he made his final move to Kelsey Creek Senior Care. Al was a beloved husband and father, soldier and attorney. He lived an amazing, interesting and diverse life. Al made the world a better place and always did it his way. He will be sorely missed but will always live on in our hearts.Show more

Patricia Ruth Duffin Skud died quietly in her sleep in Bellevue, Washington, November 9, 2023. She was born December 29, 1927, in Geneseo, Illinois Pat grew up in Wakefield Michigan, daughter of Francis Wilson Duffin, a teacher and coach at Wakefield High School and Kathryn Elizabeth Montgomery Duffin, who taught in Ironwood Township Schools. In school she played flute in the band and was a majorette. As a child she had the first of many cats that were always a part of her life. In 1949, Pat graduated from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, where she studied speech and theater, and taught school before marrying Bernard Einar Skud of Ironwood, Michigan, on August 20, 1950, in the Wakefield Methodist Church. Pat and Bernie then drove a car called Betsy to Seattle, Washington where Bernie worked for the Fish and Wildlife Service and Pat for Reichhold Chemicals and in the Chemistry Department at the University of Washington, acquired a cat named Muggins, and began to raise a family, living in various places including Capitol Hill, Ravenna, and Northgate. While living in a Green Lake apartment they found bridge-playing friends who remained close for life. Pat sometimes joined Bernie on his trips to Southeast Alaska. In 1956 Pat and Bernie moved across the country to Boothbay Harbor, Maine, where Bernie continued his career as a marine biologist and Patty raised two young sons. They brought a black and red Nash and after a stay in a cabin by the mill pond in East Boothbay moved to Townsend Avenue by the Rotary Club. Thursday nights they were entertained by the singing at the Rotary Club and through the Couples Club and bridge-playing, found friends for life. There was a black cat and Pat always remembered trips to Boston and Filene's basement. In 1958 Pat and Bernie moved to Galveston, Texas, where Pat volunteered at the Methodist church, and added a third son and a cat named Prissy. One summer was spent in Washington, D. C. , but after two years Pat escaped the Texas heat and humidity when they returned, via a trip across the South, in a blissfully air-conditioned white Rambler, to Maine. Back in Boothbay Harbor, Pat and Bernie lived at the end of McKown Point by the laboratory where Bernie worked. Pat helped organize the Friends of the Library, annual book fairs to raise money for the library, and was especially pleased with the addition of a children's wing at the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library. She was also active at the Boothbay Country Club, the Methodist Church, where she served as Treasurer, was a supporter of the Boothbay Playhouse, and sometimes a substitute teacher and prize speaking coach. Pat picked blueberries for pies and learned to make honey without bees. There were trips to visit family and childhood friends in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There was also, after farming out kids to friends, a trip to Italy. Mungojerrie, a Maine coon cat, and Hershey, a Labrador retriever, were important parts of the family. In 1970, Pat and Bernie moved back to Washington State, residing in Bellevue. Pat drove a VW 412 to work at Hickory Farms, attended Husky football games, and enjoyed the attractions of urban life, including theater. A kitten, Bug-Off, and a puppy, Toffee, were added to the family. In 1978, Pat and Bernie moved back to the east coast, first to the Washington D. C. area, and then returned to New England where they lived in Peace Dale, Rhode Island and along with Pat's mother. Pat joined a bowling league and the General Federation of Women's Clubs. She and Bernie took a trip that she called her very best vacation, to South Africa, stopping in Rio de Janeiro on the way and Greece on the way back. In 1986, Pat and Bernie moved with her mother to Vancouver, Canada, where Bernie was with the International North Pacific Fish Commission and the University of British Columbia. Pat volunteered at a hospital and entertained many visitors from the USA, particularly during the 1986 World's Fair. In 1991, Pat and Bern retired to Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island in Washington State. Pat immediately joined the Methodist church, participated in bible classes, and became a bell-ringer. She volunteered with the Whidbey Island County Museum and the hospital in Coupeville and helped promote reading with the Island County library. Cats Rusty, Mollie and Allie were adopted in turn. Pat loved meeting with her PEO sisters, helping women advance through education. (Pat also was delighted to be introduced by a PEO sister to high-bush blueberries, a more pleasant picking experience than the low-bush berries of New England. ) She studied French, writing, and took Elder Hostel trips to Oregon, France, and England. And she could be seen around town in her faux-woody Oldsmobile station wagon. In later years, her weekly visit to the hairdresser was a highlight. Pat is survived by three sons, Timothy of Alexandria, Virginia, Ferd of Anchorage, Alaska, and Eric and wife Ann of Redmond, Washington. She was predeceased in death by her parents and husband of sixty-three years. Her sons would like to thank her church community, PEO friends, her many friends in Oak Harbor, and particularly her caregivers and trusted friends Westley Young, Jackie Coon, Myong Walrath, Emelyn Collantes, and Crystel Manzella for adding so much to her life in her later years. Memorial services will be held at Oak Harbor First United Methodist Church in Oak Harbor Washington on December 2 at 11 AM. Our dear Fanny Pere passed away on November 26, 2023 at the remarkable age of 108. She was born in 1915, in Brooklyn, New York, to Rachel and Nathan Katz. Fanny was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 60 years, Harry Pere; and was also predeceased by her siblings, Julius Katz, Molly Jacobs, Goldie Goldwyn, and Max Katz. Fanny's life was filled with countless joyous moments and milestones with her family of many generations. She is survived by her children, David Pere (Jane), Peter Pere (Molly), and Nancy Prolman (Robert); seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Pere (Jennifer), Robert Pere (Dinnah), Stephen Pere, Jennifer Pere, Merritt Hennessey, Justin Pere (Hanna), and Joshua Kout; twelve great-grandchildren, Jessica, Hannah, Brooke, Malia, Harrison, Olivia, Elle, Miles, Claire, Owen, Scarlet, and Lola; and five great-great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Jr. , Daniel, Caleb, Carter, and Kylee. Beyond her dedication to family, Fanny found deep fulfillment through her passions for religious and language studies, portrait painting, and writing. Her many abilities and talents enabled her to continually learn and to express her creative spirit. Fanny always held a warm smile and a wonderful sense of humor. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family and friends. May she rest in peace, knowing that her legacy lives on through the generations she touched.Show more

Leo Washburn

On November 19th, 2023 Leo "Pete" Washburn passed away peacefully at the age of 79. Leo was born on May 12th, 1944 to parents Irvin and Hazel Washburn and grew up in Federal Way, Washington. Leo enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War during July 1962 through January 1971. Leo served as a Navy corpsman and felt a duty to serve his country. While in the Navy he learned his trade as a dental technician which he pursued throughout his life. He worked for several dental laboratories before starting his own as an entrepreneur in 1993 where he owned and operated Valley Oral Prosthetics in Kent, Washington. His care and dedication to his craft enabled him to provide and support his loving family. Leo was an avid fisherman and dedicated much of his free time to angling for many kinds of fish, but he always enjoyed salmon and steelhead the most. He shared countless hours of his time fishing with his many friends and family. Leo is survived by wife of 35 years, Anne, his daughter Jennifer, son David, two Granddaughters Miranda and Ryley, and his sister Ardis Endres. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Neil and sister Adrienne. Leo will be having a private service with his close family and friends at a later date. Rhonda Dale Ryan, quietly slipped into eternity at her home in Tacoma , WA on November 7th, 2023 at the age of 53 after a courageous battle with cancer. Rhonda was born in Enid, Oklahoma on October 31st, 1970 to Eldon Dale Perrine and Antonina Cana Perrine. Rhonda was a brilliant, kind, strong, brave, beautiful, and funny woman of faith in Jesus Christ. She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life on 8/26/1989. Their children were two of her biggest blessings. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved supporting her family and being wherever they were. She enjoyed her children's sports, their choir, riding quads together and vacationing as a family. Rhonda was very successful in multiple professions throughout her life. She led a 33 year career as a Paralegal, over 20 of those years were with Jacqueline McMahon (sister), McMahon Law Group in Puyallup, WA. She was a Real Estate Broker for over 20 years and she was heavily involved with youth ministry, serving alongside her husband as Youth Leader/Pastor for over 20 years. Anyone who knew Rhonda experienced her kindness and her love. All the way up until the day that she left this world, she put others first. Her love for the Lord was so beautiful. She trusted Him through every single part of this life and now she dances with Him. This world was a better place with her in it. Rhonda is survived by her husband, Michael Dale Ryan, their two children; Josiah Michael and Michaiah Grace. Rhonda is also survived by her mother, brother, niece Stephanie, & nephew Bryan, Michael's mom Maureen Kiely, two sisters Jalynne (David) Oum, nieces Kalynn & Amayah, nephew Cameron, and sister Ashley (DeWayne) Long, nieces Hailee & Kinslee and nephew Dante. She is preceded in death by her father, Eldon Dale Perrine. Yoshia Uomoto

Yo Peacefully passed away on November 12, 2023 at 100 years old and is now with the Lord. She leaves behind her sons Mark (Leila) and Jay (Katy) and 3 grandchildren. Her dear husband Ted Uomoto, both of her parents, Akigo Doi and Kina Nakagawa, her beloved brothers, Jim and Bill, and very dear sister, Iky have all preceded her. Yo grew up on a farm in the Woodinville/Redmond area and later her family had to abandon the farm to be interned at Tule Lake along with thousands of other Japanese Americans. She married Ted in 1952. and raised her 2 sons in Seattle, Washington. She worked for many years and retired from the National Park Service. Following her husbands death, she enjoyed deeper fellowship with Iky and the Japanese Presbyterian Church ladies. In her later years, Yo moved to and enjoyed the wonderful caring and loving staff at Nikkei Manor assisted living facilities. Memorial service will be held at Japanese Presbyterian Church.
