Winston Davis

Winston Davis

Age - 88

November 30, 2023

Winston L. Davis went to his heavenly home in the early morning of November 28, 2023. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1935, to Reverend C. Lamar and Josephine Davis. He was 88 years old. Winston spent much of his childhood at his grandfather's family homestead near Marbury, Alabama where he developed a deep love of farming and ranching. As a teenager he and his two brothers sold their 4H projects to help the family come up with a down payment for their own 80-acre farm near Equality, Alabama. As a teenager, Winston joined the Air Force and was stationed at Connally Air Force Base in Waco Texas. While visiting town he saw the prettiest brown eyed girl he had ever seen Miss Jerry Ann Rappe. He bought her a candy bar and a coke starting a romance which has lasted nearly seven decades. On November 17,1956 they married and soon went back to Alabama having their first child and barely making payments on their own 50-acre farm. In 1959, with the hopes of landing a refinery job Winston moved the family back to Texas settling in Pasadena. He didn't get the refinery job but eventually landed a job working for Crane Valve Co. as a shop helper where he quickly learned valve repair working his way up to shop foreman. In 1975, blessed with three more children and a partnership in a valve company Winston decided to set out on his own creating a successful family business "Davis Valve Inc" where he remained until he retired. In the late 1980's Winston and Jerry sold their 50 acres in Alabama and began the search for a country place in Texas. They purchased a small ranch in Moulton Texas which from that moment on he lovingly referred to as "Over Home". Winston spent as much time as possible at the ranch tending cattle. Winston loved operating tractors and bulldozers well into his 80's. He always said he did his best thinking from a tractor seat. Winston had many interests including classic cars mostly the Model A Fords produced from 1928-1931. He built several during his life tinkering with them up until the end. He could be seen all around Pasadena and South Houston making his rounds in his "Yeller" step-side pickup. Winston's sense of humor brought many laughs to his friends at the Whataburger senior breakfast club. Someone once asked him if he's lived in Pasadena all his life? His reply was "not yet". Another asked him "where does your wife shop for groceries"? His reply "Luby's". Winston was involved in many organizations: South Houston Chamber of Commerce, South Houston and South Pasadena Rotary, South Houston Masonic Lodge, Houston Area Model A Club, and Texas Cattleman's Association. Winston had many accomplishments in his lifetime but none more important than his family. He was the best provider, teaching his children how to provide for themselves and their families. Winston is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Jerry Ann Davis, his four children Debbie Baugus & (Billy), Jimmy Davis & (Cindy), Roy Davis & (Stacey), Dee Davis & (Greg Kelso). Also, surviving are 4 grandsons, 5 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. Winston was preceded in death by his parents C. Lamar and Josephine Davis, Brother Joe B. Davis, Brother Michael Davis and son-in-law Billy R. Baugus. A special mention to the exceptional and dignified care he received from his loving caregivers Marta, Jessica, Elizabeth, Alma, & Irene. Visitation will be held at Peevey Funeral Home 12440 Beamer Rd Houston Texas 77089 on Monday December 4th, from 10-11:30am with a graveside service following at 12:30 at Grand View Memorial Park 8501 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena, Tx 77505Show more

Marleah Baird

Marleah Baird

Age - 69

November 30, 2023

Marleah Deaton Baird passed away peacefully at the age of 69 on Monday, November 20, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the third child of three born to James Isaac Deaton and Ola Mae Thompson Deaton on September 13, 1954, in Bowie, Texas. She is survived by her brother, Jim Deaton, and her sister, Judy Deaton Hughey. She was proceeded in death by her parents. She will be missed tremendously and forever remembered by her loving husband of 47 years, Kenneth J Baird (Ken) and her sons, grandchildren, and daughters-in-law: Joshua (Lisa) Baird and Nathan Baird; Kylie, Davis, Justin, Wyatte, Blake, Daniel, Elizabeth, Zorana, and Noah; Candice Watts Arnold and Jessica Drucker Baird. Early in life, she attended grade school and junior high in Pampa, Texas and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Later, her family moved to Tulsa where she attended Nathan Hale High School. Her parents moved to Missouri City, Texas (Houston suburb) the summer of 1971 before her junior year of high school at John Foster Dules High School. She graduated from Dulles High School in 1973. Marleah met Ken New Year's Eve night on December 31, 1971, while they both were working the night shift at Jack-in-the-Box. Marleah was a junior and Ken was a senior in high school. Very soon after meeting, they began dating. They dated through her senior year of high school and attended each other's Prom together before parting ways in July 1973. While apart, they both began a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. God faithfully brought them back together in April 1975. They became engaged in August 1975 and were married on February 14, 1976. Marleah took art classes once a week for decades. She became a very good landscape artist. She had many painting class friends that she thoroughly enjoyed being with every week. This was a wonderful down time recreation and skill learning time for her. After fostering three children in the late 1970's, her sons were born in 1981 and 1984. As soon as both were in school, she volunteered at the boy's schools all the way through their high school years. She did many different types of volunteer jobs from office work, helping the ESL class, helping with the choir class, and participating on curriculum panels for the school district. During her son's high school years, she was the Youth Pastor at church. There are countless youth (who are adults today) that speak of her profound influence in their lives because of Jesus. After her Youth Pastor years, she entered prison ministry. She often said how much it was like working with high schoolers. She and Ken led Alpha Courses in eight different prisons in southeast Texas over a 20-year period. She became a Chaplain for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. She was selected by Alpha in Prisons USA to open and run the first Faith Based Dorm in the United States. She later opened a second faith Based Dorm at a different prison. Marleah was presented the "Religious Service" award during the Texas Governor's 2016 Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Award program in April 2016. She was a Certified Volunteer Chaplains' Assistant who worked with the Alpha Ministry for nearly ten years at the Wallace Pack Unit in Navasota where they coordinated a faith-based dormitory. Over the years she has recruited other volunteers when attending churches, community meetings and wherever an open door is presented to her. She was one of 15 individuals (out of 22,000 volunteers statewide) and 6 organizations from across the state of Texas recognized for their efforts to help inmates and those who are on parole or probation. They donated many hours of their personal time every year with the goal of changing the lives of convicted offenders and aiding and comforting their victims. Marleah was a worshipper of Jesus. She was leading worship, helping to lead worship, or on worship teams at every church she attended including the worship that was done in the prisons. Worship was a huge part of who she was. She was always trying to spend as much time with her son's families as was possible. To her grandchildren she was known as Mimi; they were always a top priority for her. She is a precious daughter of our King. We miss her tremendously but are comforted that she is fully in the arms of Jesus now and we look forward to seeing her again.Show more
