Age - 96

October 8, 2023

Ruth Ardelle "Dolly" Nelson passed away peacefully at age 96 on October 5, 2023, at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, Kansas with her sons Eddy and Ward by her side. She was born March 29, 1927, on the farm near Mentor, Kansas to her loving parents Edwin Forsberg and Ebba (Ringquist) Forsberg. She was preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Ebba Forsberg, her beloved husband Darald (Mannie) Nelson, her son Brent Nelson, and her brothers Romaine, Gordon, Glenn and Kurtiss Forsberg. She is survived by her sons Edwin (Liz) Nelson of Walpole, Massachusetts, Ward Nelson of Smolan, Kansas, grandchildren Erick Nelson of Portland, Oregon, Mark (Heather) Nelson of Honolulu, Hawaii, Jon (Claudia) Nelson of Lincoln, Rhode Island, Anna Nelson of Denver, Colorado, and Alyssa (Eric) Gaede of Colby, Kansas, great-grandchildren Daniel, Maja and Mali Crawford of Hays, Kansas and many nieces and nephews. The youngest of 5 children with 4 older brothers her dad finally had his "Dolly", and the name stuck with her for life. She graduated from Assaria High School and worked at the Mentor Store and Elevator owned by her family as WWII raged. On November 21, 1948, she married Darald (Mannie) Nelson of Gypsum, Kansas at St. Paul's Lutheran Church near Kipp, Kansas on a day the roads had to be opened after a blizzard. She was given away by her mother Ebba as her father Edwin had passed away at age 51 when Dolly was 14. Dolly and Mannie soon bought the Algot Johnson farm 1/2 mile west of Smolan, Kansas where they farmed for over 60 years and raised their 3 boys Edwin (Eddy), Brent and Ward. Life centered around the farming seasons and especially the Salemsborg Lutheran Church community. You name it and Dolly was active in it - Choir, LCW, Church Refreshment Committee, Swedish Smorgasbord, Bethany Home Auxiliary, Smoky View 4-H Club, Sewing Club, Garden Club and more. Flowers in her "Corner" on the farm gave her unending pleasure and contentment where there was always something beautiful blooming. She never ceased creating treasures useful and meaningful; rugs from her loom, embroidered tea towel sets, needlepoint pillows and applique handmade quilts all sprang from her nimble hands and fingers and still find use in many homes throughout the community. In 2005, her husband Mannie passed away and she continued to live on the farm and help manage it with her son Ward until April 2015 when she chose to move into Bethany Home in Lindsborg. She was a resident for the final 8 1/2 of her life and she endeared herself to the staff who provided her with exceptional and loving care. Dolly could be found contentedly reading a book in her chair surrounded by many cardinals and a wall of photos of her family. Her days were enriched with regular Zoom video calls with family members and weekly letters with memories of the farm. Dolly was a "tough old Swede" and a woman who will be forever loved. Her kindness and selfless giving to all she knew and loved is a legacy we should all aspire to. Funeral arrangements are through Crick- Christian Funeral Home Lindsborg, Kansas. Visitation is on Tuesday October 10 from 5-7pm at the funeral home. The funeral will be 10am, Wednesday, October 11 at Salemsborg Lutheran Church. Rozann Cedarholm

Rozann Cedarholm

Age - 92

August 16, 2023

Rozann Cedarholm, 92 of Lindsborg, Kansas, passed peacefully in to the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday morning, August 14, 2023, following a brief illness. Although we mourn her loss, we rejoice with her as her soul joins many loved ones who have gone before her, particularly her son Steven and husband Vincent. The youngest of seven children, Rozann was born on a farm south of Marquette during a blizzard on January 17, 1931, to Aleda and Vade Myers. A product of the Great Depression, she walked a mile and a half to a one room school house and looked forward to an orange in her stocking on Christmas morning. Make-believe, music, barnyard animals, and a creek to play in were her pastimes. After graduating from McPherson high school, Rozann worked for the Palmquist family and began attending Fremont Lutheran Church where she was baptized and later met her husband at Luther League. Rozann and Vincent were married in 1952 and bought a farm one mile west of the church. God blessed them with two children through the miracle of adoption. Their greatest heartache came when their 10 year old son, Steven, died from complications surrounding muscular dystrophy. The next 12 years were busy. In addition to being a farm wife and mother, Rozann taught pre-school in Marquette. She lived to serve others and found great joy in many community clubs and activities. She was devoted to her aging Mother and enjoyed living close to her and four of her siblings and their families. Sunday afternoons were for extended family gatherings centered around food, laughter and sooooo much talking! Rozann came from a musical family and had an angelic soprano voice. She sang in the Messiah Chorus for over 50 years, performed in several Broadway R. F. D. productions, and sang solos in church whenever she was asked. If she had been born another time - another place - she would have studied music and made it her life's work. Rozann and Vincent were in the early years of empty nesting when Vincent was tragically killed in a farm accident in 1980. She remained on the farm for five more years before selling and moving to Lindsborg to begin a new chapter. She worked at Bethany College for a while and then for 17 years at the Swedish Country Inn. Lindsborg provided her many opportunities to serve and become involved in the community. If a volunteer was needed, a cake baked, or a meal delivered, they called Rozann. Travel became an important part of Rozann's life. She boarded a bus charter every chance she got and visited every state in the lower 48 at least once. Germany and Austria were her first overseas destinations followed by Sweden. Three trips to Israel brought the bible to life for her and strengthened her faith. She is survived by her daughter Sara (Paul) Wrablica, granddaughter Lizzie (Cole) Anthony, and grandson Louie Wrablica; eight nieces: Janice Sue (Charlie) Wilde, Susan Palasciano, Janet (Neal) Gobber, Dee (Ernie) Beaudet, Laura (Steve) Weiss, Lori (Craig) Hillmer, Beth Cedarholm and Jan (Sean) More; four nephews: Gilbert Norland, Randy Norland, Jim McMurray and Randy Christenson, 33 great nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends. A celebration of her life, giving glory to God, will be held at 11:00 a. m. on Tuesday, August 22, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 320 North Main Street, Lindsborg, Kansas, with Pastor Chris Deines officiating. Private family burial will take place prior to the services. Memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Memorials may be sent in care of Crick-Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, KS 67456.Show more
