(Elizabeth) Love Ballance Etheridge passed away June 16, 2022 on her 90th birthday. She was the widow of W. Scott Etheridge of Knotts Island where they lived happily for many years and were active members of Knotts Island United Methodist Church. Born in Norfolk to Ernest and Mamie Beane Ballance she was a 1951 graduate of Maury High School and a proud resident of Park Place, growing up on 26th Street. She was honored to be a member of the Westminster Chapter #99, Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. Her early work career was with the family of H B Hunter Company on Brown Avenue, makers of fine chocolates in the Tidewater area. In 1971 she married Scott and moved to "The Island". Due to declining health she moved to the Arbors Independent Living in Newport News in early 2021 where she loved the food, residents and especially the staff of her new community. Love was also predeceased by her brother, Ernest Ballance Jr. Surviving are members of her Knotts Island family, Larry and Jane Etheridge and their extended family, and her Ballance family, her niece Susan Shaw of Seaford, who was her primary caregiver, and nephews Mark Ballance of Chesapeake and Paul Ballance of Norfolk. A graveside service will be held on July 1, 2022 at 11:00am at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk by her pastors Frank Jennings and Diana Johnson.
