Alfred Butler

Age - 82

December 10, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Alfred (Alfie) Butler announces his passing on December 6, 2023, at the age of 82 years. Alfie will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend, Mary Ellen (Picchio) Butler. Born on November 26, 1941, Alfie was the son of the late Mahlon and Rose (Allen) Butler. Alfie will be fondly remembered by his surviving daughter, Lisa White and her husband, Ronald White, Jr. and two granddaughters, Alexandra and Taylor Keys. Alfie is predeceased by brothers; Mahlon Butler, Wendell Butler, John Butler, Ambrose Butler, Robert Butler, sisters; Harriett Brandon, Mary Glover, and Josephine Butler. Alfie's first love was dancing. He traveled miles to attend dances and danced on Steel Pier in Atlantic City, New Jersey. While attending a dance, he saw a woman standing across the room wearing peach hot pants and found his second love, his wife and best friend for 55 years. Alfie and Mary Ellen attended oldie's dances until his passing. Alfie and Mary Ellen could not wait to start a family of their own, and had one daughter, Lisa. Alfie and Lisa would take long drives together to nowhere. When Lisa questioned if he knew where they were, his response was, "No, but one of these roads will come out to somewhere I know. " Though he loved dancing, landscaping, and working with his hands to create welcoming and beautiful gardens, Alfie's favorite role was being a grandparent. He treasured his time with his granddaughters and loved being their Pop Pop, never failing to attend every game and special event. His granddaughters loved helping their Pop Pop in the yard and were rewarded with a Tasty Kake for picking up one stick. Alfie will always be remembered for his impeccable fashion sense, infectious smile, and the way he glided across the dance floor. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him. A celebration of life will take place at the Dunn Community Center (upper level), 4565 Prestwick Drive, Reading, PA 19606 on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 5:00 - 8:00 p. m.
