Thomas D. Wichman, 76, died peacefully at home on Sunday, June 4, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Thomas was born in Algona, Iowa to Delores Reed and the late Kenneth Wichman. He attended Southern Illinois University where he received his master's in business administration. Thomas was a proud member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity at Georgia Southwestern State University. During the Vietnam War, Thomas heroically served in the US Air Force. He loved spending time on Skidaway Island where he would fish, golf, and boat. Thomas served as Scout Master of Troop 57 on Skidaway Island for 6 years. In addition to his wife Jerrie, Thomas leaves behind his mother, Delores Reed; brother and sister-in-law, John and Diane Wichman; two sons and their wives, Josh and Gwen Wichman and Jeff and Jill Wichman; and three grandchildren, Brent Wichman, Charlotte Wichman, and Leia Grace Wichman. Thomas was considered a consummate gentleman by many. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and son. A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced by Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you consider a donation in Thomas's memory to be made to the American Cancer Society.

Cara Elizabeth Parker Parulekar, 58, of Corbin Kentucky, passed away on June 3rd, 2023, after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer. Cara (Liz) was born on July 29th, 1964, to Roland Ray Parker and Marilyn Saylor Parker-Felts in Corbin, Kentucky. After graduating from Corbin High School in 1983, she went on to study Cosmetology at the, 'Paul Mitchell School of Cosmetology'. She then proceeded on to working at 'Reflections Beauty Shop' in Corbin. She met and married her husband, moved to Florida and then to Michigan where she studied Creative Writing at the University of MichiganCara (Liz) was preceded in death by her Father; Roland Ray Parker, Sr. , Her two brothers; Michael Lee and Roland Ray Jr. , Her paternal grandparents; Cecil and Virgil Parker, her maternal grandparents; Rose and Lee France. She is survived by her husband of 33 years; Nikhil Sharad Parulekar, her mother and step-father; Sherley Thomas and Marilyn Saylor Felts, two sisters; Tammy Kay Russell (Phillip), Rose Ann Smith (Terry), A brother; David Nathan Parker; A special Aunt; Mildred Ann Saylor Moore, Special nieces; Suzanne Smith Eaton (Rob); Kendra Russell Arthur (Matthew) of Indiana, Mariah Cecilia Parker, Shyanne Jewel Parker. A special nephew; Phillip Anthony Russell (Tracey) of Somerset, Ky. A special family friend; Geraldine Mosley Wells of Corbin. Her beloved dog; Gypsy Belle, and a host of other family members and friends. A few of Cara's (Liz's) passions included; cleaning and organizing, decorating her home, writing, cosmetology and her pets. Cara ( Liz ) was a very charismatic person who brought laughter to many. The room lit up whenever she walked in. Visitation will be from 1pm - 3pm on Thursday June 8, 2023, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held at 3pm with Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton Officiating. Burial will follow in Felts Chapel Cemetery in Corbin, KY.

Melba Hinkleman, 79, of Windsor, Missouri, died Monday morning, June 5, 2023, at Centerpoint Medical Center, Independence, Mo. Arrangements are pending at this time.

Kevin Thomas Ettinger, 90, died last month, May 10th, at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was born in 1932 in Manhattan to William L. Ettinger, Jr, and Mary Cunningham Ettinger. He earned his undergraduate degree at Manhattan College before completing a Master's degree in education at City College. Kevin is survived by his wife Carroll, 89, his sweetheart for almost 70 years. They started dating when he was in the Navy, where he served on the USS Randolph CVA. Kevin earned his New York State Teacher's Certificate in 1956, and was a much loved middle-school teacher in the Hastings-on-Hudson public school system, where he taught for almost forty years. After he retired from the public school system in 1993, he tutored English at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry. He founded the "Ethical Stickball League" with his friend Stefan Kanfer in 1972. Alongside his friends, sons, and former students, he played every weekend on the asphalt yard outside the High School. He was the long-serving "commissioner" of the league for almost 50 years. Kevin had a life-long passion for the arts, literature, and music. When he was young, his Uncle Wood read him the Wizard of Oz books. As a teacher, he read the Oz books to his students. Away from school he organized Shakespeare readings with friends, and sung as a tenor in the Hudson Valley Singers with his wife. He was also passionate about movies - watching them, reading about them, and discussing them. He also hiked mountains in Europe, including Mount Blanc and the Matterhorn. He's survived by his children Andrew, Clare, Timothy, Willie, and Claudia, and his grandchildren Ana, Emy, Eddie, Anthony, Marlon, Cheyenne, and Jasmine. He will be buried in a private ceremony at Gate of Heaven in Hawthorne on Saturday, June 10th. A public visitation will be held on Friday, June 9th, from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at the Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home on 64 Ashford Avenue in Dobbs Ferry.

Mendie I. Brown, 52, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, June 10, 2023 at the Bradley &amp; Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton.   A visitation and reception will follow at the Missouri Department of Conservation office, 2010 South 2nd Street, Clinton, MO 64735. John E. Rychnovsky, son of Joe &amp; Ruth (Cabaret) Rychnovsky, was born December 16, 1931 in Creston, Iowa. John grew up southwest of Diagonal, first living at the 'Albert Rychnovsky' place and later moving to the current Lawrence Rychnovsky farm. He attended Harmony Country School with his brother Lawrence and other local kids including Barbara Keller, Don and Dick Graham and Arlene Butt and later graduated from Diagonal High School in 1951. After graduation he attended Iowa State University for one year before entering the Air Force in 1952 where he served for 4 years, finishing as a Staff Sergeant and C-47 Crew Chief. John's dad died unexpectedly in 1953 which was a major blow. However, this led to one of the highlights of his life when, while home on leave for the funeral, he met Reba Irene Watts whose parents had just moved back to the Diagonal area. He was to be eternally grateful to Mert Hollinger for introducing him and Reba. On December 27, 1955, John and Reba were united in marriage at the Catholic Church in Diagonal, Iowa. After John's discharge from the Air Force, the couple moved from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, where he was stationed, back to Diagonal. They began their life together farming and eventually bought two farms southwest of town. Along the way they had three children: Patricia Lynn, Steven John, and Mary Lisa, all Diagonal graduates. John was always known for his great memory of his earliest days and was a resource for any local history including from his childhood days of working on the farm and living near his grandparents and extended family. His fondest memories were of neighbors working together threshing, stopping at Grandma Rychnovsky's for fresh bread and jelly on his walk home from school, Sunday family dinners and listening to Captain Midnight on the radio. He also had many memories of growing up during the Depression and the valuable lessons learned during that difficult time helped him throughout his life. John and Reba had many fun times with dear friends including attending card parties and times spent in faith at the Immaculate Conception Church in Maloy. John served many years on the DHS School Board and was instrumental in getting the bond passed for the construction of the 'new gym,' and helped to build the dugouts and eagles nest on the baseball field. John enjoyed visiting with friends, but he would often strike up a conversation with a 'stranger' and before long, find something they had in common. He also enjoyed and appreciated a good joke and would often laugh so hard, he'd have trouble delivering the punchline. One of John's best qualities was being a good friend to anyone in need and helping wherever or however he could. John was there to help if your car was broken down, if you needed help in the field or if you were going through a hard time. He appreciated people like Doc Watson at the Diagonal Bank, Fred and Pearl Kokesh and Bud Beymer who were all willing to help him and Reba as they started their life as farmers. John never forgot their kindness and continued to pay it forward, putting the needs of others first whenever he could. John worked hard throughout his life. One of the highest compliments he could give was to say, 'that person is a hard worker'. He was often out farming long after dark and, for much of his life, never seemed to know what a weekend was. Fortunately, his son Steve was able to lead him astray at some point when he bought him a set of golf clubs! After that, the hard work continued as before, except when Steve was in town and snow wasn't on the ground. In those instances, he was always ready to pack some bologna sandwiches and head to the Ellston golf course. There, he would take on the task of hitting golf balls with the same determination as cutting hedge posts but with a much bigger smile on his face. He also enjoyed having a cup of coffee and sharing some jokes with his Benton coffee group. John was a great parent and grandparent. He often talked a mean streak about spanking the kids, but it was really just talk, his good guy side would invariably come out. Regardless of how tight money was, John would be the softie spending money on Christmas presents every Christmas Eve. He never missed one of his kid's school functions or games, even though they were never sports stars. John always expected his kids to work hard and be responsible but more importantly, he was a supportive parent and grandparent and did whatever he could to make sure his kids had it better than he did. John and Reba made many trips to Maryville and Columbia to help out Patty and Mary and their families whenever needed and to attend grandkids' school and sports activities. Grandpa was frequently known to 'shoot the moon' during family games of pitch, and grandkids were treated to tractor rides, peanut clusters and popcorn as they enjoyed stories of Grandpa's escapades from his childhood and days in the Air Force. Perhaps the clearest testament to John's character is when Reba became ill later in life. He was her caretaker for several years. After she moved to the Clearview Nursing Home, he would spend several hours with her each day. They developed many close friendships during those years and were very thankful for the friends and staff they met. They especially appreciated the time they spent with Dick and Evelyn Brammer. And John was always ready to hear a joke from John Pirtle! When John recently entered Clearview, he was appreciative of the familiar faces he knew as well as the new staff who were so good to him in every way possible. True to John's character, some of his last thoughts were to make sure the staff knew how thankful he was for their help during a tough time. John peacefully passed away on June 3, 2023, at Clearview and was constantly visited and cared for by friends and family until that time. He was preceded in death by his wife Reba, his parents Joe and Ruth, his step-father Ora James, his brother Lawrence Rychnovsky, sister-in-law Sue Rychnovsky, in-laws Verl and Velma Watts, and brother-in-law, Dale Watts. Those left to cherish his memory include children Patty (Kieran) Wilmes of Maryville, MO, Steve (Barb) Rychnovsky of Fairfax Station, VA, Mary (Bob) Allee of Columbia, MO; four grandchildren Jessa Lynn Spainhower of San Diego, CA, Eric Travis Allee (Solange), Adam Robert Allee, Tyler John Allee; two great grandchildren, Elena Allee and Eliza Allee, all of Columbia, MO; one brother-in-law Dean (Nancy) Watts of Peoria, IL; and sister-in-law Lenna Watts of Pekin, IL. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and neighbors including Brent Sobotka and Laverne and Carolyn Burtis. John will be missed by many. Per John's wishes, a graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 10:30 a. m. on June 17th at the Bohemian Cemetery in Diagonal, Iowa. Please direct memorials are to the Diagonal Community School Scholarship Fund in honor of John.

     Myril Dean Ferguson, age 90, was born on January 13, 1933, in Worthington, MN, the son of George (Jack) and Edna Schmidt Ferguson.      He attended school in Round Lake, MN until the 10th grade. He then began farming with his father. Myril married Esther Hamilton in January of 1952. They had one daughter, Connie Rae. He continued farming near Round Lake until the spring of 1955. The family moved to Worthington, where he began working for Worthington Printing for a short time. He then worked for Robson Wholesale Grocery until the business closed. His next job was Graff Motors Parts House until they closed. Myril then worked for the City of Worthington in the Water Department. In the mid 70's, he was recruited by Al Krusemark to work for Martin Oil driving a gas transport. Myril worked for Martin Oil until he retired in January of 1998. During the years he was at Martin Oil, he also worked part time for Benson Funeral Home. After retirement, he drove transport for West Co-Op and later hauling grain for Mark Scheepstra.      Myril married Mary Vining White on November 20, 1983. He was active in bowling league, Turkey Trotter Square Dance Club, and 24 years on the Worthington Fire Department and Rescue Squad. After retiring, Myril and Mary began to travel and in December of 1999, they began spending their winters in Leisure World RV Park in Weslaco, TX. There he participated in various activities; he enjoyed shuffleboard, pool, card games, chair volleyball, and the hot tub.      Myril passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at his residence in Worthington, MN.      Myril is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughter, Connie (Clancy) Dokmo of Clearwater, FL and Northfield, MN; step daughters, Lynette White of Ohio, Leslie (Travis) Burnham of Worthington, MN, and Krista (Ryan) Akers of Sibley, IA; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a sister, Donna Robinson; nephews and nieces, and many wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, David Robinson.      Memorial services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023, at 11:00 a. m. , at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN. Private family burial will be held prior to services in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.      Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.    

Lois M. Kinnett, 88 Years, of Dillsboro, IN, passed away on May 4, 2023. She was born November 20, 1934, in Dillsboro, IN, daughter of the late Irvin Cutter and Lena (Stevens) Cutter.  She enjoyed being at home, loved to crochet, made many blankets and doilies and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Lois is survived by her loving daughter, Monna (Vic) Ferreira of Aurora, IN; son, John Kinnett of Aurora, IN; sister, Loretta Libbert of OH. She was preceded in death by father, Irvin Cutter; mother, Lena Cutter; husband, Chester Kinnett, Sr. ; son, Dana Kinnett; four siblings, Howard Cutter, John Cutter, Wanda Cutter, Laverna Cutter; Visitation will be held at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home 219 Mechanic St. Aurora, IN 47001 on Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 11 AM until time of Funeral Service at 1 PM. Interment will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery, Dillsboro, IN. Contributions may be made to the Dillsboro Life Squad.
